I once played a game of Yatzi with a guy and he started flirting with me. I politely told him that I'm fifteen and wanted him to stop and he apologized so I thought that would be the end of it. But no. He then started again, saying that he wished we were boyfriend and girlfriend. He is now blocked and is going to stay that way.

So just gonna drop this hear. It was recently announced that Dice World will be removing their tweeting wins for gold feature. Gotta say, I couldn't be any happier. Those tweets have plagued Twitter for far, far too long and should've kicked the bucket way sooner than they have.
Aside from the obvious issue of annoying people half to death... there are a few other problems with the fact this even existed.
With this feature, DW was basically saying, "Here, want a reward? All you have to do is press this one single button and boom, you now have extra gold/bonus rolls."
And do you think about it? No, of course not. Because you want those bonus rolls. So you never stop to consider how you might be making other folks feel, or how you might be making yourself look with the obsessive and repetitive tweeting that tells your followers absolutely nothing.
Continuing on with the above, the problem with that is it essentially teaches you not to think. You are brainwashed into seeing only the reward and nothing else.
And let's not forget the marketing. There's bad marketing, and there's good marketing. This was a horrible example. Why bother promoting yourself when you can offer folks a reward to do it for you, and they don't even realize it? Problem is, those tweets stack up so quickly that anyone who sees them will either be interested, or they will find themselves just not caring. If they don't care, then no matter how much you might try, you're not gonna convince them that DW is worth their time. If you somehow do convince someone to play... you have another marketing tool, nothing more.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I'ma actually sad they are removing that. That was the quickest way for for me to earn the bonus roles, and I got a lot of friends playing because of that. In fact I just got 25 bonus roles so for me it sucks they are doing that. It was a tweet in 2014 that got me into dice world and I have not looked back since.

By Kristen on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

So, I ran into the game crash bug over the weekend that would crash the game once you did your roll and it tried to send the score. Thish appened to 2 of my games in-progress.

I installed the emergency update/patch they put in over the weekend, which made it so that problem did noth appen anymore.

/However/, I now have 2 games in progress that I can't progress on ... I can't re-roll or try to re-send my roll or anything. They're jsut stuck saying it's my turn, but I can't do anything.

Any way people have found to fix this or do I just have to resign this?

By Kristen on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Thanks! That worked. I had no idea that option existed in the Settings, as I've never had this issue before.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Yeah, exactly. It was the quickest way that required the least amount of time, thought, or effort. You only had to press a button to send out a tweet, and potentially annoy other folks to get your fix. But now you actually have to spend time and effort on it.

dude, let it go. there was no ill will in any of this. most people liked it, and it was an easy way to give free rolls. And it also did introduce people to the game. Sorry it was so annoying to you. Also, I did add tons of tags to it so it could be filtered easily. And it wasn't some marketing scheme, people asked for it, so I did it. it didn't help much, but it did some. And with a 1 person company trying to compete in the app market, I will take any and all help I can get. Anyways, it's gone now, let it go. There's plenty of other stuff for you to hate on out there to focus on. which I can see in a lot of your posts. You act like developers are giant corporations just fleecing people. it's not the case, and it is getting old. rant over.

By charles on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I like the new update overall, but have thoughts on 2 issues. 1: Yahtzee layout. I prefer the original layout of the score sheets. This is a personal preference, though, and not a major issue. 2: From within the game settings, we used to be able to send you an eMail that included diagnostic information to help you resolve issues that cropped up. From what I can tell, this option no longer esists, and I would think that it would be very beneficial. I would like thoughts from the developer on this one. Otherwise, still a great game, for sure.

By Ornella on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Agree with Charles and also I prefer the layout of the balut bored how it was before. I think its also split in to 2 sections and when trying to find the spot to score I had to do a lot of swiping. Keep up the good work.

By nbappdev on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

There is still a place to send in the support email. It is on the support forum page in the social section. At the top labeled 'Contact Us'. In the next version coming out in a few days there will be an additional button for this on the main settings page.

For yatzy and balut layouts, the challenge is all of the different ways that people use voiceover to navigate. So please send in emails with any suggestions on how to make it better for your experience. I can add settings so people can customize the layout for their personal use. It will get dialed in over time.

The best way to get suggestions submitted is to email support@appa11y.com. Those are 100% sure to reach us. Some things get lost when posted to forums and twitter or facebook. It's just me and another guy who also has a full time job, so keeping up on all of the social networks is a challenge, but email is always covered.

Thanks!
Nick

Lets examine this message.
dude, let it go. there was no ill will in any of this. most people liked it, and it was an easy way to give free rolls. And it also did introduce people to the game.
Precisely my point. It was a quick, and easy method. You hardly had to do anything. You did not need to think, as I previously stated. there was very little expenditure of time involved, so why wouldn't you tweet your wins? But again, that ease of use and reward has the affect of essentially training people's brains to see nothing but the light at the end of the tunnel, which would in this case be the reward.
Sorry it was so annoying to you.
It wasn't just me. I can name several other folks who had a problem with it. The only people who didn't were the players who would benefit, another result of the brain training.
Also, I did add tons of tags to it so it could be filtered easily.
I tried to filter them. I tried to filter by client, but for some reason the client kept changing. I never got around to filtering by hashtag but really, I shouldn't have to. When something from a game shows up so many times in someone's feed, there's a problem.
And it wasn't some marketing scheme, people asked for it, so I did it. it didn't help much, but it did some. And with a 1 person company trying to compete in the app market, I will take any and all help I can get.
There are other ways of promotion. Posting on forums like this, or AudioGames.net. Writing something on Reddit. Creating a Facebook page. Putting ads in the paper, on the radio, on TV. ...Okay, so maybe some of those are overkill, but the point is there are options.
Anyways, it's gone now, let it go. There's plenty of other stuff for you to hate on out there to focus on. which I can see in a lot of your posts. You act like developers are giant corporations just fleecing people. it's not the case, and it is getting old. rant over.
Isn't it, though? Everyone wants to make money. And how many of the apps in the app store are created by larger companies? Larger companies always want to dominate the market. And that requires money.
The majority of my posts do not focus on this. If you look closely, they are related to iOS bugs and advocating for games which are more involved and greater in depth than a lot of the stuff we are served on a platter and told to be grateful for.

By Brian Giles on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I've been enjoying the new updates. I think this is one of the VO-accessible games that's been around the longest. The fact that it's still being supported and updated says something.

While I too quickly got annoyed with the constant tweets, I can see why some people liked it. At least DW isn't a gotcha game like so many of the mainstream mobile games. The pay to win and other ways some of them get you to crack open your wallet (cough cough Mario Kart Tour) are far more egregious than what DW does.

They have taken one new page out of the typical mobile playbook though -- subscription content. This is interesting, though I haven't tried it yet. Sounds (pun intended) like some of the sounds you get are neat though. Having my dice games sound like an old retro arcade? Heck yeah!

By Lisa on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Hello,
My Dice World notifications stopped working, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and they started working again. Now, they are not working again, I only get the sound not the badge. I have the badge notification set to on, also my Dice World notification sound has changed that used to be the sound of rolling dice now it is different. Any ideas how I can fix this, or is there a fix for this coming up in the next update? Thank you for an awesome game I really enjoy it.

By sockhopsinger on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Keep up the great work on the games, although I'd like to see the other games be available to play the computer. Love the snark factor on the computer bots, especially Trump and Hoff. Oh, and if you want to keep up the social media posts/tweets for free bonus rolls, keep it up. PS, this is coming from an actual person and not a robot; thus, I can control whether I post wins to my feeds or not.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Exactly. taking away this feature means we don't have control, and yeah I add sometimes little snarky remarks to my free roles tweet instead of just pushing a button, or I'll tweet about how awesome the game from the share sheet when I win.

We did not take away the twitter posting, Twitter took it away. We must have gotten reported as spam by someone, so they restricted our account. This is why all of the twitter posting errors were happening over the last month.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Lol, I'm sorry, but that's classic. It does make sense though, since as I have said before, you basically flood people's timeline with the same thing over and over, and unless you are a DW player, it doesn't really do anything but clutter things up and serve as an annoyance. How many other popular games do you see doing this kind of thing?

By sockhopsinger on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I'm still scratching my head trying to wrap my head around how it is the app's fault that someone hits yes to post to Twitter every time they win.

By nbappdev on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

They are cracking down on all apps. And it makes sense. Tweets are suppose to be meaningful, and posting the same thing over and over really makes no sense outside of getting the reward. They started doing this in August apparently, so expect more and more apps to make the change.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Ouch... I can't believe the developer behind DW actually just said the tweets their application produces don't mean anything.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

To the person who said they're scratching their head about how it's the app's fault someone clicks yes to post to Twitter when they win, it is precisely because of the reward on offer. I'm betting that if the reward wasn't a thing, only the truly obnoxious would really care about posting their wins.
Also, I can't help but wonder... would people be so inclined to post their LOSSES, too? What about if posting losses offered a reward?
Yeah... I don't think so.

And yet Gar, football teams relegated from the English Premier League are rewarded millions.

Besides, I can't really see why people who are incentivised by rewards wouldn't be too bothered about posting their losses. After all, it's only a fun and enjoyable dice game.

I quit playing DW some time ago but even then I didn't care for bonus rols etc.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Perhaps so. But I doubt they are being paid to fail.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

It's not good for anything besides bonus rolls, the concept of which implies that players absolutely must win. It's a loop. They would tweet and gain rolls, then use them. They would use them because... dang it, this hand is terrible and I need to win, instead of simply accepting the fact that... it's a game of chance, you're going to lose at some point.

@appa11y_dev
Hey, thanks so much for the huge update to the DW game. I absolutely love the new sounds. I still have some issues of when my dice aren't being spoken when they are being rolled. Also, a thanks for the inside scoop of what happened with the option to Tweet for coins. I can see this both ways for promoting your app for those that may have not seen your older tweet on the game. On the other hand those with many games at once and doing this everytime can quickly stack up with a lot of tweets on your timeline which can be annoying. Keep up with the awesome job! Thanks!

@Gar
Garr, I realize that you are wanting to be free and open minded in being able to dscuss whatever is on your mind. As in like something you like or don't like. Suggestions, feedbacks, questions, and even answering to other comments are always welcome. But, being snarky is another thing. Sure, I have no issues that you wanted to say that you like the new option that people can no longer tweet for coins is fine. But, taking this to another level and starting to trash developers is not cool. As we are already struggling to have any developers to give us the time to have a game we can actually play. I think you are dragging this on and beating on a dead horse. Say what you want to say and be done. Move on please. Lets try to be cordial and respectful. Thanks.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

While I would normally agree with the blind community not having enough developers willing and able to keep us in mind, in this case I have to say I disagree. The number of dice games, the number of card games that we can play is just... outrageously high, while the number of games in other categories is quite depressingly low. This nitch has been overfilled and it shows, in my opinion. And I do speak as someone who doesn't actually mind dice games.

Actually I remember posting my los when that was a thing. I didn't care, I wanted to just get the tame out thing so I would hit the button and not care if I annoyed people. A lot of my friends play me now because of that tweet or facebook post.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by Gar

I use the bonus roles for tournies as well, if I can, and when I play. Makes my score go up higher and give me a better chance of out playing the other person. Of corse they can out play me too, which is fun and a challenge.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

So instead of being about luck, games are basically about who has the most bonus rolls. Who is willing to share the most. Who doesn't care about annoying people the most. Or those who don't care about dumping all their money into rolls. Sounds like the negative aspects of mainstream gaming to me. No skill, no talent needed.

By nbappdev on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by Gar

you have no idea what you are talking about, and for some reason feel the need to keep spouting off.

The truth is our game is the only dice game available that allows people to play completely free, without bonus rolls if they wish. In 'non bonus' games neither player is allowed to use bonus rolls, so there is zero advantage for anyone. And in bonus games, both players get to use them. And in balut there is a lot of skill needed if you want to win. I'm really not sure what your beef is with our game, or why you feel the need to degrade all of the developers on this site. I get that it is very easy to criticize, as it takes no talent or effort really. maybe try adding some value instead?

By DJ on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by Gar

Bonus rolls as you know Gar can be turned off.

I also agree with others regarding strategy and yes, there is an element of luck just as there is in real life.

Seriously though, it really beggars belief why anyone would complain about a dice game which is extremely well maintained by a couple of Dads and free to play. Don't be surprised if one day these guys throw their hands up in the air and quit in frustration particularly with this community.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

The problem with this community is that we don't have much that we can have fun with. Which conversely means that the things that we can enjoy end up the central focus all the time, be that focus positive or negative. If we had more, we might not really care, but as things are now a few of the quote unquote good games, to some, end up being trashed by others.
I hate to say it, but... I'm gonna say it. I go through the AppleVis app directory entry. Literally the only game that caught my eye that I haven't gotten bored with is Six Ages. The others that are posted are either incredibly simplistic, not my genre, or are games I played for a while and got bored with.

By DJ on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by Gar

Sorry Gar, BUT bemoaning the lack of games due to our situation is certainly not the PROBLEM FOR THE DEVS of DW because they have enough to concern themselves with going to work, supporting their families, maintaining DW and ensuring it is fully accessible without having to wade through all the negativity towards their game.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Agreed. Either like it or shut up. Sorry to be so harsh, but you tend to put a negative spin on most of our posts. I love DW and will continue to play in my spare time when I hagve a 10 minute brake after class or when I go to bed. It's the same with Lords and Knights, a game for which I wrote a guide book on as that game might be easy but it is so complex in the very end.

By charles on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I play both bonus and nonbonus games for the following reasons: Nonbonus games: If you blow it, you blew it. Be careful. Know when to stop. Bonus games: Rack up the score until you blow it. Now, do you risk losing it all? You might not score on your next roll, even with all dice possibly scoring.

Now, my current problem is that a player who I play frequently does not show up in my list of previous opponents. I tried copying their Dice World user name into the field to locate a user by name with no success. Any thoughts?

By charles on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by DJ

I think this game has remained in the app store for about 8 years. Come on, people! Quit griping about such a successful game! Hasn't it withstood the test of time through quality and continued support from the developers? Quit knocking success.

By Ornella on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Maybe the person deleted their account. Not sure if that's possible.

By Gar on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I have the right to express my opinion. If I don't like something, I'm not going to stay quiet about it in the hopes that something will change. If you don't like that then I'm sorry, but I'm not going to change for you.
As for DW being around for almost eight years... that just means the developers have continued to put money into keeping it in the store and they haven't broken any rules. Big deal.

By DJ on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Okay, so I redownloaded the game as my son wants to challenge me and so can anyone else for that matter especially if you think Ballot and Yahtzee are all about luck.

Again, kudos to the devs for the excellent work they do by continuing to ensure the game is accessible to this community.

I still don't understand the fuss regarding bonus rolls as that feature can be toggled off.

Remember folks, it's just a bit of fun.

By Ornella on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

Its fun but unfortunately people just like to be obnoxious. If there was a way to filter comments or block replies from certain people on here I would so do that. I mean the issue with the twitter was already delt with on here but this person keeps going on and on about nothing.

By sockhopsinger on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

I only post about games/topics that I have any interest in that I like. IF I like something but encounter a bug, I will post. If I don't have an app.game, I don't post about it. If I like something but find it too buggy to use, I post about it. If I don't like it because I think it's stupid, a waste of time, or just don't like it for any reason, I don't post about it because it is a personal reason for me. I don't bash on it or its developer because I know that there are those out there who genuinely like it, and I find it in very poor taste to simply post a negative comment about an app or its developer simply because you don't like it. Obviously, there will be those who disagree with my viewpoint, and that is fine. Opinions are like backsides; we all have one.

"Opinions are like backsides, we all have one."
...but some folks think their opinions are more important than others, just as they see their backsides might be larger.
Sorry, I couldn't let that one go without finishing it. Heh.

Yep. They are also like belly buttons, and we all have one. I'm hared on bames, but only when I have to, then I just sit back and let the chips fall where they may, not go on and on and on like gah there.

By charles on Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:40

In reply to by Ornella

You must have missed something in my message. I clearly stated that I frequently play this person. That would not be possible if they deleted their account.

You are showing, by your negativity and your poisonous attitude, that your backside seems to be bigger than anyone else's. Stop it. There is constructive criticism, and there is negative nagging. I am sure that the developer wants the constructive kind. From his responses to you, and the responses from others, you should know our feelings. Now, yes, I do feel that this app being in the app store for 8 years or so actually is a big deal. You fail to see the value that people see in such a feat, probably just due to your sour attitude and the need to present your huge backside opinion. Your point has been made, so why continue poisoning the discussion? Take it somewhere else or spend more time sending constructive thoughts rather than distructive ones.

Has anyone had issues with not getting notifications on DiceWorld?

Ever since the big DiceWorld update that updated the sounds/layout a bit, I've been not receiving notifications for when it is my turn. I am not sure if it was that update in particular that stemmed the change, or the update to the new IOS 13.

I also was not sure if it had anything to do wiht the fact the person I am mainly playing with is playing on an Android, while I am on an iPhone. (I know this is the case, as this is one of the very few games my mom and I can play together, as she has an Android and I have an iPhone.)

I've tried going into Settings > Notifications and toggling the notifications on/off, but that doesn't seem to have done it.
