Has anyone noticed Siri voices in voiceover sound terrible since Ios17.1

Hi.
Has anyone noticed that the US Siri voices in Ios17 seem broken and compressed now? For context I use Siri voice 4 US on voiceover. It sounded great until ios17.1. It used to use about 450 MB, now it only uses 66 MB. It now sounds compressed, robotic, stutters, makes other odd sounds and is generally unpleasant. I now have to download the correct 450 MB voice through the activity setting and run activity rather than downloading it through the regular speech settings of voiceover.
I have reported it on apples website, contacted customer support and emailed the accessibility email. Was just wondering if anyone else noticed this to?

Oh man, that sounds like a real hassle with the Siri voice changes in iOS 17.1. Dropping from 450 MB to 66 MB? No wonder it's sounding more robotic and glitchy. Good on you for flagging this with Apple and their accessibility team. It's odd stuff like this that they need to know about.

Your workaround to download the full-size voice is pretty clever, even if it's a bit extra. Hopefully, Apple will catch on and fix it up soon. Curious if anyone else is having the same Siri blues since the update.

I am so disappointed in myself for updating to ios 17.1 just because of this siri voice problem and siri voice auto delete in other languages problem. I loved siri voice 4 as well and emailed apple’s accessibility team about the compression.
I wonder which crazy person decided to reduce the filesize and thought that it will sound good that way! Why apple?!!
Hopefully the problem will be solved in ios 17.2

hi, as a none-english-speaker I have as my second language one of the siri english voices on my iPad pro 11 m2, and it sounds horrible, but as it is not my main voice, well I have just to tolerate it.

Regards.

I'm thinking they did this to stop the sluggishness that the siri voices were causing when used with vo.

Maybe it's the nature of my hearing loss, but the voices sound pretty much identical to the way they've always sounded to me. The n again, I use Alex about 95 percent of the time, so maybe I'm not qualified to answer this particular question. I would like to be using the female siri spanish voice for duo lingo, but unless or until the voices auto-deleting themselves issue gets resolved, I'll just stick with Marisol. Maybe I'd be able to hear the difference in quality of Siri voices if I had a side-by-side comparison, but even then, I'm honestly not sure if I'd notice it or not.

They sound fine to me to. Just to try to duplicate I downloaded one of the larger files via an activity and the siri voices caused voiceover to become sluggish.

I believe that the changes to the Siri voices were intentional. I agree that they sound more robotic and generally worse than they did in previous iOS versions, but in iOS 16 they made voiceover very unstable with all of the crashing. I'm thinking they reduced the file size because of that.

Well, in general, I’m not just saying that I’m just saying that this is just temporary for a while. Since the last four major updates of iOS 17.2 and later we still haven’t got the fixed my friend who has an iPad nine and my little brother, who has an iPad nine as well. They also got the same issue, never experienced this on my iPhone X and my iPad seven generation.
I think keyword, I think that it might get fixed with iPadOS 18. I hope so because, I change the pronunciation of the word button on my Siri voices for the US language. Since they sound weird, I am not used to it. So I just hoping 18 updates were fixed all of the bugs that we are having right now with 17.
One question for anyone who ever sees this comment, have anyone ever noticed that Siri voice one sounds a little bit off on iPadOS 17 when it says iPadOS is up to date and another question anyone noticed that all of the voices sounds a little bit off when VoiceOver pronounce accessibility because I just noticed just now Noticed that before it doesn’t say it like they used to be with iOS 15 and older

@Matt92Machine, I don’t think so because I have my iPhone and my iPad updated to iOS 17.1 and it’s still working fine for all of us. I do see some iPads and my school that I Never saw any of the iPads crashing or anything. I don’t know why The generally did this on the iPad nine but not 10 not the eight not seven not the six and for the iPhones from XR to later
