A Message from St. Nick
Shortly after a quick stop at the Island of Misfit Toys, I always visit the good little boys, girls, geeks and nerds of AppleVis Land. It is difficult to know exactly what to bring you every holiday season, but I am rather fortunate. Members of AppleVis Land love to share their opinions, and that is clear both from the forum postings, as well as their wish lists sent to the North Pole.
For the second year running, AppleVis has been nominated in the category for the "Best Blindness-related Website or blog" in the Blind Bargains Annual Access Awards.
We are very flattered by this, and would like to thank all of you who nominated us.
This will be the 5th time that Blind Bargains have invited the blindness community to vote for the best products, innovations and technologies, and as always there are some difficult choices to make.
We are pleased to announce that veteran podcaster and content producer Jamie Pauls has joined the AppleVis Editorial Team.
Jamie Pauls brings an impressive resume to the AppleVis community. He is probably best known for his time hosting and producing ACB Radio’s Main Menu radio show; he has also hosted and produced the SeroTalk Podcast, been a voice in SeroTalk Podcast Network convention coverage, and produced the Triple-Click Home podcast.
After the closest vote to date, Vokul has become the latest inductee into our iOS App Hall of Fame.
Vokul narrowly edged out its two closest challengers by just a single vote, highlighting how important it is to cast your vote each month, as yours might be the one that makes the difference!
We would like to invite you all to help choose the next 2 apps to be inducted into The AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame.
At the end of each month the AppleVis Editorial Team take a look at all the apps that have been posted to the site during that month - either for the first time or where there has been a significant update - and decide which of these we think is the most noteworthy.
A quick scan of our forums, App Directories and blog will show that February was a great month for iOS gamers, with some new and very exciting titles added to the list of iOS games that are playable by the blind.
We are pleased and excited to announce that David Woodbridge has agreed to join the AppleVis Editorial Team.
As you might have read, we recently posted that we were looking for an experienced Mac user to join our Team and to help develop the Mac-specific areas of the website.
With the public release of iOS 9 now just three days away, we wanted to let you all know that we plan to have lots of information and resources ready to share with you as soon as Apple makes its new version of iOS available for download.
Our coverage will include a number of Blog posts with information on what you will find in iOS 9, along with podcast demonstrations of some new and changed features.
We are pleased and excited to be opening the doors today on a completely new area on AppleVis, one that we hope will help to keep you up-to-date on the current status of accessibility on iOS and OS X.
As AppleVis has grown and evolved over the past 5 years, we’re aware that it’s become increasingly more difficult to keep track of what accessibility-related problems have been reported and discussed on here.
So, to make this easier, we are pleased to announce the launch of The AppleVis Accessibility Bug Database.
It's nearly time for the AppleVis community to select the next inductee into our iOS App Hall of Fame, so we’re asking that you take just a moment to nominate any apps which you think should be on the shortlist.
In 2008, despite my failing eyesight, my Windows laptop with ZoomText empowered me to operate my own software development business. I had partnered with Bob, a Mac user. We both had prior Unix experience. With Windows, Mac, and Unix covered, we were a cross-platform development powerhouse.
Since our launch in 2010, AppleVis has been the premier online community for blind and low-vision users of Apple hardware, software, and services. Our forums have hosted countless conversations around vision accessibility, with members asking questions, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and generally assisting each other with making the most of Apple technologies.
