Just reviewed those two particular problems in being able to Share and to Like or Comment on a link that someone has provided with in their status. Well sadly, you can't or least I haven't been able to find a way to do it. Apparently, to a sighted person. Each status we see in the timeline has three buttons below that status. Like, Comment, and Share. Those are unreachable to us that use Voice Over strictly for navigations. That answers to those questions even though it didn't resolve them. However, I am still very impress in the improvments they have made so far. We have had a lot of negative feedbacks. I am unclear of why nor have heard any wonderful comments. We should be happy they are making stride to help us. Yes, some features isn't going to be done at this point and hopefully this will stay this way of being accessible in later updates. So my finger are crossed they it will and newer things will come along. This is way better than Voicebook and Status Report so far for myself!

i for one like the update to facebook. i rote them a wile back regarding the newsfeed and the sharing option and i feel that they are making an efert to make the app as usible as they can. in my opinion it hasn't been this accessible sence 2.0. i am thankful for the access we have so far and am varry optimistic about the future ps i was able to activate the sharing option a couple of times but i can't do it consistantly. you have to double tap on a stadus, voiceover will say the stadus is selected. then double tap again and you will be taken to a share diolog. you can share or you can cansol.

the ting I like most is there are actually more news stories that you can read

By jldiaz421 on Saturday, November 24, 2012 - 18:16

The new update has totally made me want to use this ap. I have tried many of the others like voicebook vo and focus and have not been that impressed. Cheers to facebook for finally taking a stand to making this accessible to us VO users.

Maybe it's just me, but I have found even with the latest version of this application that voice over does not read all buttons contained within the application. I don't know if anyone uses this application with zoom, but I for one have found that the layout of this application is very difficult to navigate as a partially blind person making it necessary to use voice over. I am honestly extremely frustrated with this application, I use an iPhone 4s and an iPad 3. It says in the forum that nobody has reported issues to the facebook developers, but this is not true. In fact, many people even sighted people report issues with this application to developers if you follow their official development website. The problem is that the developers in this case are and have been extremely uncooperative. There are fully sighted people who have issues with this application and not just us blind people. I've given up using Facebook on my iPhone 4s and iPad 3 and only use it on an apple Mac. I admit this doesn't overcome the voice over issues, but as I am primarily a zoom user, I find the apple mac version and layout much easier to navigate. Facebook have a long way to go with improving the accessibility of their IOS application. I seriously wouldn't recommend this application to beginners to iPhones or iPads. Advanced users can access some of the elements of this application with voice over, but I for one will say that I have found that the accessibility of this application is totally inadequate.

Hi. the reason you only see 15 news feed stories is because that is the way the application has been designed. In other words, sighted people would only see the same thing. I've just tested this again with my iPhone 4s 32 gig, no, I'm still not impressed. There are no improvements for zoom users for one thing and voice over still doesn't read all buttons. The application hasn't crashed yet, I'll do some more testing but I'll still be reporting issues to the developers.

Hi. As a zoom user, I notice that the friends list is compiled as a graphical interface. In other words the friends are displayed as icons which is as you rightly point out terrible for voice over users. This is another issue for the developers. As for groups, avoid using this application for groups especially if you are a group administrator. I can't even see the graphical interface here because for some reason they've done it in a highlighted graphic font.
Hi. You got it in one. The friends list is a grid of icons and according to their website, this was done so as to fit the screen of the IOS device in question. It's terrible for voice over users. As for reporting issues to the developers, I'll go on any public record and say that these developers have been most uncooperative in the past, and I'm not expecting improvements to their attitude in the future.
This is very confusing so let me try to explain it a bit better. Let us say you want to see how many people like a status or one individual who does. If it says you and 4 others liked this do a one finger only double tap on the 4 others link. Now if you want to reply to each of the people who liked the status, do a one finger only double tap on the individual you want to reply too, then reply to them individually. Now hopefully this should display who the individuals are who liked the status. As for viewing comments, where it says view all 4 comments, do a one finger only double tap on the 4 comments link and hopefully, you will now see/hear each of the comments. Unfortunately, you have to do a one finger only double tap on the actual comment you want to reply too, and then reply to that comment. As for tagging your friends in the middle of posts, this cannot be done if you primarily use voice over, as the friends lists are displayed as icons in a grid format. As for sharing, the share button is not labelled in the version I am testing, so I don't think voice over users will be able to use this feature.

I absolutely love the improvements they've made with accessibility regarding facebook! My only problem is the sort button seems to not be there anymore, and it only shows a certain number of items in the news feed, and I don't see where we can see more posts.

One or two improvements here I think. We now appear to have access to the Share button. When I checked, there were one or two posts I couldn't share, but that may be related to the post itself. For the most part, when you click into a post, there are now three buttons, Like, Comment and Share. I still have some posts where it says something like "John Smith shared a link" but doesn't give any more detail. And VO still won't read mutual friends on a friend's profile page. But overall it's pretty good. Now to decide if it's good enough, or if I want to roll back to v4.1 again.

The only thing I don't like is when you hit the left navigation button you are taking in to a friends list you cannot get out of unless you relaunch the app. Can someone please explain what this does? This button is after all the things with notifications, friend's and all of that stuff at the top. The links people share don't read and the photo sharing last I checked dod not read at all. you only got from your library, image, image, image, all buttons.
Sure I will try my best to help out. On the main page when you open up the Facebook app. You have that Show the Left Main Navigation button at the top right hand corner of the screen. If you double tap on that. It will slide open in what is the Chat page. These are the people you can select to chat with. To close this. All you need to do is go to the upper left hand corner where you will find that Show the Left Main Navigation once again. Double tap on that. This will close the page and bring you back to the main page of your timeline. The Shares in your Newsfeed is quite puzzling. Just about every photo shares that my friends have submitted are being read to me just fine. As one of those for example is that they just had a new baby. The Newsfeed has a caption that says such and such shared a photo with "He's finally here!". When I double tap on that photo share. It will then take me to a new page of the actual image and additional comments made by the person if he/she has written for the phto for more details. If they do not leave a caption or a description. It will only say that such and such shared a photo. No other else because of the no captioning. I believe that is what is happening? Not certain for your case. However, the Link Share. Yes, that is not being read on the actual Newsfeed. So I am not certain of what it contains without having to double tap on the actual Newsfeed to find out. Now, as for the last question regarding to the Photo Sharing. Yes, all images from your Camera Roll will only display as a button label Image. The strange part is that I've seen this in other apps that behaves the exact same way. If you look at DropBox for example it will display the same results as it does in Facebook. So I am wondering if this isn't an Apple IOS 6 issue rather than Facebook themselves? Other than that. I find it quite accessible. However, some still disagree with me on this. I really would like to know what else that I may be overlooking. I can help out if need of any assistant. Besides the Photo Sharing only showing the Images being labled as a Image button. I would love to hear about any other issues so I can report them to Facebook. I also recommend to anyone else to do the same for that matter. It appears that the iPhone is a lot more accessible than the iPad counterpart. This is only going to confuse people more. So the fragmentations of different devices behaving differently is starting to show more and more.

Has anyone tried to post a status from within the Facebook app itself? When I tried to, it says text field is editing but the keyboard is no where to be found. Anyone else experience this?

By Larry Thacker Jr. on Monday, December 24, 2012 - 18:16

How does one now sort by most recent? Also, I don't miss the press and drag method of gettnig more content, but I've noticed that after you get so far there's a big gap between recent content and whatever was there from the last time you use the app. How does one get the app to fill that gap?
Hello Walei, I am using Facebook on my iPhone 4 on IOS 6.0.1 and have no problems in seeing the keyboard when creating a new status. What device and IOS are you using so other maybe to help you on your what device and IOS that you are on.

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.1. When I restarted my phone the keyboard showed up again. I had tried it a couple more times before restarting and it never showed up. I turned Voiceover off and touched the screen where the keyboard should be and it was typing things. This leads me to believe that Voiceover did not recognize that the keyboard was there. Anyway, I'll let you guys know if I encounter this again.

Hello Larry, On the first question in how to sort your Newsfeed to see the Most Recent. This is how I go about doing this. Assuming you have just launched the Facebook. You should be on the main page of your Newsfeed. At the top left hand corner is the NavBarIconLauncher. Double tap on this. Now this page contains many options to pick from. At the top of this screen is your name. Flick to the right until you hear the Newsfeed being annouced. One more flick to the right gets you the SideBar Gear button. Double tap on this button. This will pop up the options of giving you two options to pick from. The first item is the Show Top Stories and the second is the Show Most Recent. Just double tap on the Show Most Recent. This will now take you back to the main page of your Newsfeed. The second question is that I'm not certain in what you mean exactly. So I will see if I can't reproduce in what you had said and see in what I can do. I don't generally have any gap missing at all. So I am baffled on this. HTH

Hi there, I think the gaps you are seeing are just Facebook's top stories. When my news feed is sorted by top stories, I see a lot of older posts that, for whatever reason, Facebook thinks are important. I don't think this is a bug--but rather a feature.

By iHabilitationMan on Monday, December 24, 2012 - 18:16

Hello folks, Not long ago, I was pleased to discover that, upon tapping a name in my friends list, I could bring up their profile, and then find another "friends" button, which had check boxes to show notifications, to show in newsfeed, and a few other things, including the ability to unfriend. As of the version of the app that came out on Thursday, everything is gone from this place, except the ability to unfriend. Am I doing something wrong? Is there now another place to find these other checkboxes? This is all very frustrating, because I was happily sorting through almost 200 FB friends and getting my notifications and newsfeed nicely organized. I hear that these new "FaceBook Accessibility" people have a starting salary of about $80K a year! Let's hope, that for that kind of money, they can actually get the developers to stop "breaking things"!

By Larry Thacker Jr. on Monday, December 24, 2012 - 18:16

The gapp in the news feed does not seem to be there when set to most recent, so that solves both problems.
Hi all! It's the new guy from Norway! Anyway, I've read your previous posts about seeing likes on FB, but I just can't get it to work. The thing is that VO doesn't split the sentence up into the first persons who likes this and then the number of more people who likes it. It just reads the whole thing, so when I double-tap on it, it opens up the profile of the first person that's read. The wierd thing is that I was going to show my girlfriend that this don't work, and then it did work! But never before and sertainly never after have I gotten this to work... , But the one time it did work, the number after the persons names was a link, and I guess that's the way it actually should work... Hope this makes sence... PS: Love this site and I will be terrorising you guys with stupid questions a lot in the time to come! ;) Lol

For some reason, I don't get all of my facebook stories. I have it sorted for most recents. I get from now to last night at 9 PM, and then it jumps to Sunday's stories. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Hi! I also sort my newsfeed by most resent, and usually then I get the stories for the last 30 minutes and then it jumps to storries from 4 - 5 hours back... I tried going back to Topstorries, and then I get stuff that happend for say 1 hour ago, but I don't get everything, obviously because I'm on topstorries. So I went back to most resent, and it's the same thing again. I notised that if i don't close the facebook-app for 2 hours, then it updates the feed correctly during that time, but once I close it and open it again some hours later, the gap is there.
I also get huge gaps in my newsfeed. I have it set to most recent. It will show me stories and then jump to stories from the previous day. Someone told me I had to leave the app open for about an hour. I hope I don't have to do that every time I want to check Facebook. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I can't click on certain buttons such as like an status. Does anyone have any suggestions for that?

By Larry Thacker Jr. on Monday, December 24, 2012 - 18:16

This is what I was talking about. I thought when I posted last that changing to most recent fixed the problem, but that was a short-lived effect. Next session the gap was back. I don't think this is an accessibility issue. I think this is a flaw in the latest design of the ap for everyone, though I don't have an easy way to verify that.
No I'm fine when it comes to the status button. I click it, make my post and click post. I asume you are up to date? I'm also having the gaps issue and I believe it's the same on the mobile site to.
It looks like you can actually click the status button. just flick away and back to it again. This is what I had to do and it worked fine. Hope this helps.
Hello Sammy, Now what I would be curious. What device and IOS are you running? Facebook is becoming very fragmented I'm afraid. We are seeing different devices will have a totally different experience. On my iPhone 4 with IOS 6.0.1 the Status button works with no issues. That goes for the same on my iPhone 5 with the IOS 6.0.2. No issues on there. I haven't tried this on the iTouch, iPad, nor the iPad Mini but I do know those are having issues and the problems persist more on those devices. More so on the iPad and the iPad Mini. Not so much on the iTouch. Now as people have notice. We are all experiencing that time gap. I don't have a clue nor do I have a solution for this gap problem.

hi all. a wile back someone posted a work around for new stories. it has been working for me so i will post again. first you should make sure your news feed is set to most resent. go to the first story and double tap and hold. wile you are holding the story drag your finger up to the top of the screen. this acts as a refresh botton you might have to do this more then once. hope this helps.
On my iPhone 5 I noticed that I can also do a tripple-finger scroll gesture when I'm on the top of the newsfeed-page to refresh the content. You just swipe down with three fingers as if you wasn't on the top yet, and it will refresh. Heven't seen it fixing the gaps yet, but I guess I'll have to do a little more testing before I can say that it definetly wont work...

By Walei on Monday, December 24, 2012 - 18:16

To post a status, you have to make sure that the status button is actually on the screen. If you swipe to it, it might not work. It's location is on the top left of the screen. If it is not there, you have to double tap on the new stories button in order for it to reappear. Once you do this, you should be able to double tap on it with more success. Let me know if this doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to edit the friends lists in this version? Previously, I was able to click on the profile, the friend button, and chose the lists. Now, it only asks if I want to unfriend someone or not. This is extremely important to me so any help is opretiated.

Has anyone else installed the newest update that just came out today? It's behaving strangely on my iphone 4s... I prefer using a braille display to type my posts. I noticed that when I enter a post the question "what's on your mind?" stays visible. In order to see if my post has been entered, I have to advance my braillenote apex to the next line and backtrack to see that my post has been entered. I also tried posting without the apex, and didn't see the onscreen keyboard come up... Very strange. I haven't played with the app other to try and post, but I'm curious to see how some of the other new features such as taking photographs and videos from within the app and posting will work. As I said, I just installed this app a few hours ago and haven't had much of a chance to put it through its paces.

At last they implmented the Audio Message in to the Facebook app. You can find this in the Message area as you do a new Compose. Be sure to read my Comments in the Facebook Messager in how to use this feature if you are confused.

As I am playing with this app for a few hours. Not certain for sure but would certainly like to hear others thoughts on this but I think the gap issue is gone? The problem I have now is that it no longer tells me when the Status was posted? So they have changed this. I do not like this new removal of when the Status was posted.

So you will no longer see it was posted an hour ago and such.

As the above Commentor has also mentioned. The Compose area is a bit odd. You don't see the Text Field at all until you start typing. I mean the keyboard is already there at the bottom half of the screen. So as I type you can touch the upper part and see what you are typing but there is no text box as you would expect it to be. Very odd.

So sadly it is no longer going forward in being more accessible but a small step backwards.

Sigh.

What's New in Version 5.4

Share your moments with voice messages and video recordings right in the app.
• Send voice messages when you have more to say
• Record and share videos right from the app
• Share and connect with your favorite places using the improved Nearby tab

Sorry to say this but honestly I hate the new update. When you go to Facebook newsfeed and click to write a status, it ask what's on your mind. when your typing Voiceover doesn't read what you are typing, and when your deleting it doesn't read what you are deleting. When you go to your own profile and try to post something it takes you to the photos instead of letting you type anything.. I guess my question now Is there any way that I can downgrade my Facebook to the previous update? I downloaded the app today
My suggestion is that if you are running iOS6 or later, if you just want to post a status update, do it from the notifications center. That seems to me to be the best way to post anyway. Then you won't have to worry about whether or not there is a keyboard there. Of course, I don't think this works when you are trying to tag people in posts, but for simple status messages, this should be the best solution until the newest Facebook hiccup is dealt with.

Hi, One thing I've just noticed when typing a status, even though Vo won't read words as you're typing them or when you delete them, it will still read your status if you slide your finger slowly from the keyboard up to about the middle portion of the screen. It will also still read your list of friend results when tagging them. Status update with Fb 5.4
Hi Nanda. If you haven't synced your iPhone with your iTunes on your computer since you updated the app, then the old version should still be in your iTunes library. Therefore you can delete the app from the iPhone, then sync with iTunes. You will need to go to the Apps section of the phone on iTunes and tick the box for the facebook app. It'll then sync the old version back on to your phone. I personally keep an old facebook version 4 on my computer because the new ones are annoying me! HTH
