Help us improve accessibility of our game Idle Crafting Kingdom

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the developers of the game Crafting Kingdom.
We just released the game today and we would love to know what you think, especially in terms of the game's accessibility.

The game focuses a lot on crafting resources, producing goods and then selling them.
You start out small, chopping logs in your lumberyard. Eventually you will work your way up unlock new products, buy new buildings and production facilities which allow you to produce more valuable goods.
You can also build out your own estate, if you have the necessary construction materials.

The game is incremental, which means one of the gameplay mechanics is that you need to restart your progress every now and then to get ahead. You complete quests and earn bonuses like faster production and higher sale prices for your next restart.

The game is free. There are optional ads, but no in-app purchases. The ads are voluntary rewarded videos, which will give you a powerful boost for watching (for example double log production for 10 minutes).

You can find the game here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crafting-kingdom/id1190611967?ls=1&mt=8

We tried to make this game as accessible as possible, but know that there are probably plenty of things that could be better. We would really appreciate some feedback on what could be improved. Any feedback is welcome.

Please note: The game uses Unity and the Unity Accessibility Plugin (UAP), so not all VoiceOver gestures are supported.

I am looking forward to cloud save. I recently aquired an iPad and discovered that if I like to play on it I had to start over. Looking forward to cloud save.

Hi everybody, I don't have a definite date for the release of the next update yet, but we're aiming for the end of September. I'm working on the Cloud Save feature right now.
I'll post more information here when I have it.

Also, I added you to the beta tester group, Blindgirl2015. You'll get an email when the next beta goes live. Thank you for helping out!

Hi all,

I've been playing this game for a few months, but I'd like to know wether anyone else is experiencing the nasty bugs I am going to describe in this post.

1. When activating a boost, no video is played. The boost is activated anyways, but in order to have the game read any view you have to kill it from the app switcher and open it again. Disabling/enabling VoiceOver when this occurs does nothing.

2. After getting more than 40 or so slots split between various buildings, the game becomes indeterministic. Most of the times not all the automations work appropriately while the screen is locked, so you end up not getting what you were waiting for. The issue affects always the most complex products, while the "ingredients" to produce them are built normally. The issue does not occur if the screen of the iPhone is not locked.

3. While "accelerating" production of a certain product manually, focus ends up moving to the bottom of the screen, thus making you add more and more slots when tapping the screen.

Hi,

For some reason, the princess gifts are not always accurate. I have my gift up to 100% higher, but every four or five days, it knocks me back down to 96% even when I check my gift to open it. It says it is disabled and that the gift isn't available until such and such hours and minutes. I have waited those hours and when I try to open it again, the hours and minutes just gets further and further out. It finally lets me open it, but it knocks me back. Is this a known issue? Is it being worked on?

Thanks,

Jenn

I have not played and expanded enough to get things like 40 slots and such. But I have experienced the thing where an ad won't come up and you have to kill the game to get back and keep playing.

Also, Although I still have a very long way to go based on some quests I've seen you guys doing here. I really want to know whether the game as a whole is finished and you are just fine-tuning features or will there someday be something like a second map with new workshops and stations or whether new products will be added to keep us working forward and not just doing the exact same thing over and over. I know the logs thing and stuff is understandable, but if eventually all I'm doing is getting bigger and bigger quests on Diamond rings, I think I'd be very bored. I want to know if besides things like cloud save (which I am very excited about as it will make things much easier for me) if there are new gameplay features coming as well as just some convenience and bug features.

If you can, please tell me. I don't want you to spill the beans, but if there are beans, I'd like to know they're cooking.

Bookrage.

Hi, just wondering has anyone found if there is a maximum number of production slots you can have in a building? I have scene people talking about 50 production slots, but curious is that as high as you can have? I haven't managed to get up to 50 slots in any of my areas yet, closest I have come is 41 in the workshop but then they wanted 72 million for the next one even with the real estate boost on.
also I have noticed the bug with numbers not being read correctly by VoiceOver is still present for the larger quests when reading progress, I did try letting michelle know so hoping she got that message.

By Michelle on Monday, September 25, 2017 - 18:23

Jennie, could you let me know whether your device is offline a lot or doesn't have a stable internet connection? I am trying to reproduce the princess issue you mentioned, but am having trouble to do so. The only idea I am left with is that our time calculation fails because of a bad internet connection. The game itself can be played offline, but if you are online, it tries to make an internet clock check. This prevents cheating by people that try to modify their device time and date. If the internet connection is bad though, or is turned on and off a lot, the game might possibly get stuck, since it cannot get a response from the server.

Hi there Michelle
I simply love your game Crafting Kingdom. It is brilliant with Voice Over.
It has some lag/delay when tapping on buttons but on the whole it is pretty solid for VO.
It is currently my favourite iphone game.
However, I am stuck in one of the Upgrade screens and it will not let me out.
I went into view further info on upgrades where it tells you about general upgrades etc.
So cannot progress my game anymore.
There is no way of getting back out of this upgrade screen and I am totally stuck in it.
There is no go back button showing for VO etc.
I was wondering if you could get me out of the screen without me losing all my progress please.
I need to play this game now, it is fab!
Thanks for your time.

Stu

Hi stu,
Try closing the app, then restarting it. You'll not loose your progress and things should be good to go from there. HTH, and good luck!

Hi there Justin and thank you for getting back to me.
You are very kind :)

Unfortunately, I have closed the app and when I open it again it is still on the Upgrade screen that I am stuck in.
It there another way to close the app apart from pressing the home button on my iPhone 7 please?
Sorry if I am missing something really obvious. :)
Have a good day.

By Sturunner on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Well done Justin!!
I closed the app in the double click home button bit where it lists all your apps that are running.
Now I am back in and able to play again.
Not that I am addicted to this game or anything.....but thanks a lot for your help LOL!
I owe you one buddy!

Hi, last night I installed the new crafting kingdom beta, and am wondering if anyone else is having issues with it.
I emailed Michelle, so doubtless she will reply when she has time, but I thought it might be helpful to ask if others are having issues.
the first issue I am having is that the notes say there should be options to save to and load from cloud under the options menu, but I am not seeing these under the options menu at all, I have checked under settings and it says I am signed into game center. I am also signed into iCloud, but also there is nothing in the game so far as I can tell that would even indicate cloud save is a feature unless you know to look for it.
The second issue I am having is with treasure chests, in the beta when I open a treasure chest for a few seconds after opening the chest the screen becomes unnavigable with VoiceOver this is till I hear a kind of chime or chirp sound I can't really describe it, this sound certainly doesn't play after opening a chest in the current stable release. sometimes the sound plays instantly after opening a chest and other times it takes a few seconds, I am not even sure what this extra sound is for, chests seemed to work fine in the stable release.
Anyway I have reverted back to a stable release given the weird issues with the treasure chest.
Oh and the numbers bug is still present for huge quests where numbers are spoken as digits.
Of course I am sure these issues will be ironed out in time.

I accidentally turned the accessibility mode off by triple tapping with three fingers and now I cannot turn it back on. according to the options, one should be able to accomplish this task by triple tapping with three fingers, too. For some reason, this won’t work. Can anyone help me, please?
I also have installed the beta version and didn’t find the new options for saving to cloud, either.

By Justin on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi,
Try disabling VO, then tapping with 3 fingers three times or whatever it said to do, then that should re-enable access mode.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi everyone,
we're currently uploading a new beta, because the one that went out last night had buttons that were invisible to VoiceOver. Hopefully this one will be available by tonight.

I'm still tracking down the numbers bug - I thought I had it fixed this time around, but I guess I have to go hunting again, haha!

Thank you, Justin. I tried that but it didn’t work. If that didn’t work, I don’t know what else to do.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi all, well as a test I decided to be really brave and install the beta, save my progress to cloud then delete crafting kingdom from my device and reinstall the beta.
That all went fine, but after reinstalling the beta from scratch I have run into problems,
1. when I installed the beta I disabled the music from the options menu, but then I restored my progress from cloud and the music was reactivated.

2. I then decided to try resetting my game to see if after a reset restoring from cloud would continue to work, but this is where I ran into a bigger issue, I set the reset in motion, and it reset and I claimed all of my completed quest rewards apart from the 2 uncompleted quests I have in this current game, but then it stuck it claimed my last quest reward but then just sat there on the screen saying plus 1 fabric production.
I quit and restarted crafting kingdom and I was back in my original game before I started the reset, so then I tried again same result.
3. the weird treasure chest behavior is still present.

By Karok on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

hi all, how do i in the test flight beta back up to the cloud? it states i am nogged in but i see no game center login fields? running ios 11 ipad mini4 iphone 7 has ios 10 for now

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

you have to log into game center through settings, if you go into settings there is a menu for game center this is where you log in.

By burak on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hello,
If I back my phone up to the computer, reset the phone, then restore the phone, will it restore my crafting kingdom data as well?
Also, I seem to be having that bug about complex products as well. I try to do ladder, so I enable logs and timber then leather strips. Logs and timber seem to stop producing and leather strips get produced for nothing thus they get wasted. There is no problem producing logs, timber and leather strips at the same time. It all goes boom when ladder goes into the mix.
The second bug is when I start production in any building and immediately quit the app via app switcher. Time freezes and production stops until I open the app again.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

People running the beta might want to think carefully about trusting cloud save at this point, I did some experiments today and as well as the beta not resetting my game properly I have found other issues,
when I restored from cloud all my production slots for buildings vanished including the ones your given by default when you buy a building, and also my princess has been reset to 0, so I am now going to have to build all that up again.
I have also found that I lost most of my boost time, I had 40 minutes of boost before but now I only have 14 minutes, and my bag of gold has gone from around 51000 per minute back to 200 gold per minute. I also lost around 40 minutes of automation time as I had 180 I think and now its gone back to 130 minutes.
I think the cloud save needs quite a bit of work from the looks of things, I have emailed michelle and let her know about these issues as well as other problems, but it seems to me this feature seems to have a lot of issues currently. still I am sure michelle will keep up the outstanding work and sort them out in time, though I am really not looking forward to having to build my princess up again etc. Of course I know this is a beta so of course I ran the risks, but even so wasn't expecting this level of damage to my game, hopefully its a case of progress not restoring properly rather than it didn't save properly in the first place, I really can't face the thought of having lost all those hours of work I put in.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

The beta feedback is priceless, I couldn't wish for more!
I looked into the game reset issue, and it turns out, that some new code opened an invisible popup with nothing in it in the reset screen. That made it impossible to get to the OK button that finished the restart.
I am still working on fixing this, and hopefully a new beta will go out tonight.

Alex, I think the broken restart messed up your local savegame. Please don't save your current progress to the cloud again. That way I can try to recover it from the database. I might be able to restore it with the next beta, so that you won't lose anything. Even if that doesn't work, I can get you back up and running so that you won't have to start all over from the beginning again.

The next beta will list your player id in the options dialog. If you send me that ID, or a screenshot of that screen, I can see what's broken with the cloud save. You can also in the meantime try to load the game from cloud a second time. It might just work, too.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi Michelle, don't worry I haven't saved to the cloud since my first save I think it was, anyway certainly not since before I tried my first reset. anyway I did already try reloading from the cloud before and this didn't resolve any of the corruptions my game seems to have experienced.
also a question regarding boost time, I have been stuck on 40 minutes for ages, can't remember the last time I was given an increase in boost time, are boost time quests definitely being allocated fairly compared to other quests? as I get lots for automation time and other stuff just seemingly none for boost time, and so I now have masses of automation time but hardly any boost time, it all got very unbalanced after boost quests were broken by the inapp purchase.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi everybody,

thank you so much for all the feedback so far, both here and via email. I don't think I would have been able to find half the issues without your help.

The bad news is that there are some bugs in the cloud save still, but the good news is that they all, without exception, seem to happen when loading a cloud save, not when saving it. This is good because it means that the cloud saves actually do contain all your progress correctly, and once I fix the bugs in the loading, everyone who lost anything will get their progress back. The drawback is that you can not save another cloud save until then, because it would overwrite the correct progress with the incorrect one. I'll try to make quick work of the fixes and push out another beta tonight.

Alex, I was able to find your cloud save on the server. That cloud save makes for a wonderful test case and I'm using it to fix the bugs and test the fixes. All your data, especially the slots and the princess progress appear to be saved correctly. It's just the loading that fails. Thank you for posting, this helps more than you know!
Oh, just wanted to add that I made a copy of your cloud save, please don't worry that I would accidentally delete your data!

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

I still haven't been able to find the issue with the numbers in the quest list reading out as individual digits.
Could someone who has this issue in one of his or her active quests and is also part of the beta contact me here? If you save your game to the cloud and let me know, I can check out your save game and hopefully find the bug.

I'm not on the beta but have this issue. Hopefully you can recreate it with the following information.
I have a 2000000 salt quest. It reads as
When I swipe to it I hear "sell 2 million salt."
When I swipe again I hear
"reward plus two salt production."
and when I swipe again I hear
"progress one nine four two zero four six of two zero zero zero zero zero"
Also will 1.6 have any adjustments to make the end game easier? I'm not looking forward to 5000000 salt.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Thank you, Jared, that helped a lot!
It seems I was looking in the wrong place, because I thought the bug appeared only in the name of the quest. I found at least one of the issues that would cause this. I'll include that in the next beta.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

I am delighted to hear that there will be a new version. I wish I could be on the beta too. I think cloud save would be a good feature. I have compared playing CK on my iPhone SE to my iPad Pro 9.7. I actually prefer ck on iPhone because it has a portrait thing so I cannot hold my iPad comfortable. But I have my iPhone wich works even better with this game. I had to reset the game at one point but that is okay. I don’t remember why I did that. Probably I just felt for it. I love the new treasure chest quests. I like the way the game gets harder and harder, but still easier. I bought the boost thing to be able to use boosts without watching the ads. This means that I have a headstart when I start over. I will get back to where I were. Keep up the good work, Michelle.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

see my saved game data, the copper awe quest I have for 2000000 copper awe has this problem. In case it makes a difference I am using the alex voice with VoiceOver.
to be clear the problem is that when you flick to the right of the quest the number for progress is read as digits, as well then as the target number of 2 million, so when you first read the quest the title sell 2000000 copper awe is read correctly its when you flick to the right that the digits begin being spoken.
I have another quest in my current saved game data with this issue, sell 100000 wool.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

I don't want an easier game, what's the point of making the game easier I mean easier you make the game quicker its over, sorry but suck it up and sell the salt lol, I am not looking forward to selling lots of armor but do you see me complaining? haha no.

Hi Sabrina,
if you want to join the beta, please PM me your email address. I can add you to the list and then you can try the cloud save. Since you mentioned you are using it on a different device, you wouldn't risk losing your original progress, either.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi Charlie, I added you to the list and you should receive an invitation email in the next few hours.
You can edit your post and delete your email if you like, so that it isn't posted publicly here.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi, I've added everyone who mailed me or posted here to the beta list. If I forgot someone, please let me know.
I don't want anybody to have to post their email here publicly, you can always just send me a PM message instead, or edit your post afterwards and remove your email, just for safety.

By Michelle on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi everybody, I'm still working on a few smaller fixes for the beta. One being the numbers still being formatted incorrectly. Apart from the quest list, please let me know if there are any other instances where this is happening.

I'm still looking into the treasure chest bug. Is anybody else experiencing losing control of the game when a chest is opened?

Apart from that, we're thinking to make the storage a little cheaper in the late game. The price of storage increases with every extension that is bought, but this gets a little too high in the end. When dealing with quests that require millions of one product to be sold, storage is inappropriately expensive, and it would require to log in to sell of the stock every few minutes.
The next beta update will probably have an adjustment to that.

By Justin Ekis on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

In reply to by Michelle

Hello,

I can confirm that something weird does happen when a treasure chest is opened. At the end of the tune that plays, there is another sound, followed by a second lower note. During the 6 or 7 seconds between these two new sounds, VoiceOver does not respond at all. It sounds like the sound that plays when a hint pops up, such as after finishing three quests.

In the city, if you press one of the buttons to sell an item several times quickly, the Voice will stutter for a second. Let's say you want to sell 250 of an item, so you press "sell 50" 5 times rapidly. About 2 seconds Later, Voiceover will make a stuttering sound 5 times and then finish reading off the name of the button. This didn't happen in earlier versions, but it doesn't cause any real problems, so it doesn't matter. Just unusual.

When the ability to restart all automations was added a few versions back, I was immediately given the quests to enable that option for most types of construction. But after doing many quests since then, I still haven't gotten the chance to unlock that function in the furnace. Just thought I'd mention that in case it's a bug. I know the quests are allocated randomly though, so it may be nothing.

I do agree with an earlier post, the automation time does increase much more than the boost time. Probably because there's only one quest line to increase that, and many ways to lengthen automation. I wish there was a way to get the two times closer together though.

Hi, Michelle. I am still having the problem enabling and disabling accessibility mode. The triple tap with three fingers works to disable it but, when you wish to enable it, it won't work. I had to ask for sighted assistance to get back into the game.

By Anthony on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hello I had a quick question about this date does anybody know how to figure out what level it is that when you are playing or looking at it just was curious and also another question do I keep the quest that I have not finished if I restart

By alex wallis on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi Michelle, wondering can you explain how crafting kingdom works on the iPhone x? given that it has no home button, and things like multi finger VoiceOver gestures don't work within crafting kingdom meaning for example 4 finger swipes to move between open apps won't work. also how will the lack of a home button be overcome in crafting kingdom? given that gestures for opening the app switcher and going to the home screen mean sliding up from the bottom of the screen which is different to flicking.

Also, I sent you some feedback about a numbers bug I discovered with the non VoiceOver speech and numbers, did you get that message? I haven't had any replies to my feedback from you for some time.
I also just noticed another weird numbers bug, this is that VoiceOver speaks the number 767 as digits so 7 6 7.

By Michelle on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi Alex,
yes, I've received all your mails, and cannot thank you enough for your contribution. Your emails are usually the most detailed and make it easy to track down the issues. I have to admit that I've mostly been posting here instead of sending out individual emails, because many of the issues are reported by several people both via email and in here. I thought by posting here everybody can get an update about what is being worked on.

The numbers bugs should all be fixed now, I have to update the beta one more time though. There are a few smaller fixes that I would like to push out, that's why the update isn't live in the store yet.
The tester feedback has been amazing and helped me find so many little things that I would've otherwise missed.

Regarding the iPhone X - I have to do a little digging into how having no home button is supposed to work with any Unity app (not just accessible ones). Do you happen to have an iPhone X? Is that purely based on gestures?

By James on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi guys. Crafting Kingdom works just as well on an iPhone X as it does on any other iOS device. As for the home button gesture, unlike within VO, simply do a quick swipe up from the bottom to get back to your home screen. Hold your finger after swiping to get to your app switcher. Hope this helps.

By Michelle on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Did iOS introduce new VoiceOver gestures to get to the home button and to the app switcher?
If so, could you let me know what they are? Maybe I can support them inside the plugin instead.

Hi.

I've been playing this game for quite a while and love it. I can't wait to see if there are any more games that I can play in the future but for now i'm really happy with this game.

Having said that, I believe I've found a bug.

When I try to produce Metal,, I have the Iron Oar and the Coll but nothing seems to happen.

My storage is full but from what I understand I have Coll left over and should have some of the Iron Oar but I don't.

There's no Iron Oar in the city. If that is the case; it seems the Oar is going to make the Metal a lot quicker than the Coll is. is this normal?

I have also noticed that in my estate that metal does not show up, even though I have around 300 metal.

can I sign up to the beta version of Crafting Kingdom and show you my game, so that you can see if there are bugs in it or not?

My email is bradleybrown2@live.co.uk

By riyu12345 (not verified) on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi.

I had to remove some of the Coll and in doing so, more metal was created.

I'm still not seeing any Iron Oar though so I think that is a bug.

If I do join the beta team,, would my progress in the non beta game be transferred to the beta game? Or would I have to start from square one?

By DrummerGuy on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi, Michelle:
I have mentioned previously the issue about enabling and disabling accessibility mode. For some reason, it works to disable the accessibility mode but when you wish to enable it the three finger triple tap won't work. I have had to ask for sighted assistance in order to get back into the game. Thank you in advance for your attention and help.
Kind regards.

By Froglet on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hi Michelle and everyone,
Thank you so much for a great game! I seem to be running into something you may have already addressed, I just cannot seem to find anyone else running into the problem in my cursory glance of the most recent comments.
I have completed two of the quests requiring 5 million product to be sold, giving a reward of 50% cheaper automation. My first quest I believe did give the desired reward, as my first lumberyard slot was costing me 40 gold coins after I completed that quest (considering some other cheaper automation quests I had already completed which were in effect). However, after completing the second 5 million sale quest and resetting, my first lumberyard slot is still 40 gold to automate. This has temporarily stalled my gameplay since it took such a long time for me to sell the 5 million that I wanted to see if you had any ideas before I continued. I would be interested to know if anyone else has encountered this.

Thank you!

By riyu12345 (not verified) on Saturday, November 25, 2017 - 18:23

Hello.

I have more than enough metal to make my estate but it doesn't show up on the estate screen.

It shows up as 0 metal even though I have 645 metal in my city.

I've tried closing the game and that doesn't help.

Is there anything else i can do? I could continue the game but i don't want to do that, if i have enough for my estate then i want to try to make it bigger so that I can get more storage space.

Hi MIchelle,

I have found that when it don’t give me the gift bug, I c an take the game out of the app switcher and restart the game and I get it back. It happens on my iPad also. I have an iPhone 8+ and an iPad Pro 10.5 inch. It is the latest one. If you need beta testers, I would be more than happy to do so. I did send you an email regarding this.
