Help us improve accessibility of our game Idle Crafting Kingdom

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the developers of the game Crafting Kingdom.
We just released the game today and we would love to know what you think, especially in terms of the game's accessibility.

The game focuses a lot on crafting resources, producing goods and then selling them.
You start out small, chopping logs in your lumberyard. Eventually you will work your way up unlock new products, buy new buildings and production facilities which allow you to produce more valuable goods.
You can also build out your own estate, if you have the necessary construction materials.

The game is incremental, which means one of the gameplay mechanics is that you need to restart your progress every now and then to get ahead. You complete quests and earn bonuses like faster production and higher sale prices for your next restart.

The game is free. There are optional ads, but no in-app purchases. The ads are voluntary rewarded videos, which will give you a powerful boost for watching (for example double log production for 10 minutes).

You can find the game here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crafting-kingdom/id1190611967?ls=1&mt=8

We tried to make this game as accessible as possible, but know that there are probably plenty of things that could be better. We would really appreciate some feedback on what could be improved. Any feedback is welcome.

Please note: The game uses Unity and the Unity Accessibility Plugin (UAP), so not all VoiceOver gestures are supported.

that's great michelle, is there any way please you could see to adding a way to quickly getting to the add new slot button maybe a two finger flick down as this really isn't fun getting to that button with holding on screen, then also it would balance out the two finger flick up to get to the top of the screen even though that now triggers reading the full screen from top to bottom which has been an issue introduced by the current beta process, I don't think its a problem in the last appstore release.

also, if we interact with a slot to say change production please please could it be made so that focus remains on the last slot you interacted with, this would seriously improve navigation and focus more than I can say and would remove my 3 biggest pet annoyances with the game, and my other one is that the storage purchase screen closes after every purchase when this was fixed a while back with other areas, butt I do appreciate there is only so much you can do each beta.

Hi all,
I went to open my gift for today. I think I forgot it yesterday, so when I went into the princess to open by gift, it told me I had 21 hours and 51 minutes to open it. Like I said I think I forgot to get it yesterday, and I wasn't able to open it today either. Any suggestions? I did close out of my app switcher to no avail.
Thanks,
Jenn

Hi michelle, I emailed the following to you but posting to applevis as well just so you have it in two places.

I have two bugs I need to report with the latest crafting kingdom beta,

1. after saving to the cloud there is now no longer a confirmation screen saying that cloud save was successful, instead you get thrown back to the main menu, I preferred the reassurance saying that it had saved to the cloud just for piece of mind.

2. the second bug I have to report is that recently I went away for a week, and in that time I had very intermittent access to wifi or a data connection. I noticed that every few days of not being connected that crafting kingdom stopped opening it literally threw me back to the home screen whenever I tried to open it.

this issue only resolved itself once I was able to get on wifi, this wasn't a fun issue because I was abroad and so data was very expensive so I wasn't just going to turn my data on to restore crafting kingdom to a functioning state. I think you said crafting kingdom checks in with a date time server every so often so I assume its some bug with not being able to check in, the issue usually happened every two or three days without a connection but it happened regularly and it was definitely restoring of a wifi when abroad or data connection when I was back in the UK that fixed it. as I tried restarting my phone, killing crafting kingdom from the app switcher everything and none of that helped and only thing that worked was giving it a working internet connection.

Hope you find this useful, and I will be sending this to applevis.

Alex.

Hi Alex, thanks for your mail.

I investigated the cloud save dialog, but didn't find anything wrong with it. The dialog window still pops up and confirms that the game has been saved.

I shortened the text on the loading screen to just saying "Loading". That should be fairly fast, but let me know if it's still too annoying.

I looked into the princess issues reported here as well. For one, it seems that the time calculation is sometimes using the wrong time format. This can cause the calculation to fail and the princess will revert to a fallback time of around 22 hours. This was originally done to prevent cheating, but is now also causing problems for honest players. I reworked the calculation and everything should work fine now.

When traveling through different time zones the algorithm might however get confused - that is something I cannot properly test at the moment.

There will be a new beta upload this week, and then the push to the store next week.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Michele, about time using wrong calculations, remember there is a long standing bug that has been present with crafting kingdom since the very early days where incorrect times are shown for automations and boosts, so for example, the game might show 4 minutes 60 seconds for a time to run, I remember at the time when I reported this to you you confirmed it was a bug and you said you thought you new where the issue was, the issue is still definitely present.

not also sure when your talking about timezones if your also meaning my issue with the game not starting properly, but when I was away I changed country yes but I was on the same time as the UK yet the game still refused to open every few days till it got its internet fix.

as regards cloud save, can you please look into that issue further as I am not getting any confirmation dialogue at all that my game has saved to the cloud, I just did another cloud save at 5:40 UK time, so you should be able to check if my data isn't saving or something, there is most certainly a bug with cloud save for me, I got confirmation dialogues the last beta when it saved, I stopped getting them ever since you did the rewrite.
I think you have my player ID still? if not let me know and I will resend. now when I save to cloud I get two chirp sounds but am thrown out of that screen once I press save to cloud back to the main menu with no box or anything to OK, but equally no error either. I have also emailed this to you as well.

In the past, I have never seen the game listed as having an update, although if I delete the app on my phone, I can see the newer version when doing a search for the game. Is this by design? I would think that a new update could be seen and used when checking the app store for updates. Thanks.

By Wren on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

hi Michelle,
The latest beta still repeats many times after selling the product or when the product is being sold it will continue to say sell 50 sell 50 sell 50 sell 50.
Also, it still does not tell how much has been earned after the sale or how much is remaining.
Also after I come out of the city my whole screen is red.

Thank you for a great game.
God bless,
Wren Langley

By Michelle on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Wren,
thanks for the report. I am uploading a new build with that issue fixed.

Apart from bug fixes there are a few other gameplay changes that have been introduced in this version, which I hope you find interesting:
- When getting new quests, players have a 30% chance to get a "Refresh All Button" quest if one is available
- Increased rewards for quests Sell 5,000, Sell 100,000 and Sell 300,000
- Decreased storage prices significantly
- Storage extensions now give double the storage space (this is only effective after player's next reset)
- Not visiting the Princess for a day will no longer cause a drop in your current bonus

Also, the game will now properly announce the money that's been earned. But it will no longer announce the amount of remaining product. From the feedback I've been reading here and in emails, that information isn't all that interesting, since players often use the Sell All button. Also, the amount in storage is already available and just a few swipes away.

I've been deliberating whether it makes sense to add a "Sell Half" button, in addition to the "Sell All"? Do you guys think that would be useful?

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Michelle, I do like the idea of a sell half button, it could especially be useful for quickly regenerated resources, another option could be to allow the buttons to be user programmable or to have one sell button that the user can set to a sell value of there choice.
a question, are the increases for the rewards applied retrospectively as I certainly have completed all those quests.
I would also really love a way to shut down production areas like the farm, mine and quarry and in fact any production area of my choosing, as particularly when automation times get long, its really annoying to have production areas still running when I don't need them, as what I like to do is set production running over night, and this can really clog up my storage. if its stuff like stone, coal etc. Plus of course the ability to terminate boosts early would really be appreciated as well.

By Michelle on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Alex!
Yes, the increases in the quest rewards are applied even if you've already completed those quests.
After updating to the new version, when you open the app, you will be silently awarded the better rewards.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

that's great to know Michele, what did you make of my other feedback? I think the shutting down of production areas could be incredibly helpful for very slow quests designed to take a long time like production of belts, diamonds etc, as what I like to do is stockpile the raw resources to make stuff then process them overnight so fill my storage as much as possible then have production running, and obviously it then gets difficult if say I have 20000 silver bar, and want to make loads of necklaces but get 4 silver bar keep being produced from the furnace my storage gets flooded and hardly any necklaces are made overnight. I know you agreed with me about terminating boosts in the past.

Hi.

I've noticed my bag of gold is something like 25000 per bag,, which is quite nice although getting it higher than that would be awesome. I've noticed that my friend who is playing the game along side me, (he's completed diffirent quests to me) does not have this amount of gold when he uses the boosts. Are the quests really randomised and if so, will he come across that quest aventually?

hi Michelle,
Wow this new beta sounds very very interesting! What does it mean when you say player reset? Do you mean when we download the beta the changes will be effective? Thank you so much for your reply to me. When will the new beta be available? I think a sell half button would be great. Thank you for all you do for the game. I’m also looking forward to the new quest and the refresh all quest button. Also the decrease in storage prices will be great now in my game currently I am supposed to get 12,500 storage and that will give me 20% cheaper storage will this be effective in the new beta? I just want wanted to be sure. I
Thank you again for all you do. I don’t mean to be repetitive, which I know I’m being, :-) but I’m so excited for the game I love this game.
God bless, ,

hi Michelle,
I want to explain the process I used for cloud save to see if I did it right. I downloaded the original version of the game and installed it over top of my beta. When I started the game it said storage full. I uninstalled the original version of the game without saving to the cloud. Then I read downloaded my beta. I got my beta back, but my question is do I have to wait a little while after I save the game before I play again so that the save will take? previously I could not get the game to save to the cloud, but I did not wait before I checked. Does it take some time for the game to save to the cloud? I would ask the same question concerning loading. Should I wait a little while after I save it before I load from the cloud again. Thank you. I hope this makes sense.
God bless,
Wren Langley tap to start dictation to finger double tap when finished hi Michelle and everyone,
I want to explain the process so use for cloud save to be sure that I did it right. I wanted to download the original game just until the new beta came out. I did so, but when I loaded from the cloud I got storage 40 storage. I deleted the original game and re-downloaded the beta. I did get my beta game back. My question is do I have to wait a little while before I load from the cloud after I have saved. I ask because this process seems to have worked. previously if I checked right away it appeared that my game did not save to the cloud.

Thank you very much

God bless,
Wren Langley

By KE7ZUM on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Reset means exactly that from the castle. I don't often save to the cloud as I don't need to, however if you really want to, save once a day, but do not reinstall the beta unless you have to.

By riyu12345 (not verified) on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

A friend told me that the game may lag because my phone is a 16 gb moddle and with him having a lot more memory than i do, he doesn't get the lag.

I've noticed it seams to happen the most with the farm and leather strips. I've also noticed that when the game isn't making items, for example leather strips, the game will not lag at all.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

I think maybe even a button to sell a quarter of product could also be useful along with the one to sell half. though I still like the idea of user programmable buttons where the player can set the value of how much the user programmable button will sell.

By Karok on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

hi all, just returned to this title after an absence via test flight, and now, when i sell in the city and select sell all i don't hear how much gold i made for my grain, or whatever i'm selling, also, the focus then gos to the next "sell all" button without indicating what that is, alex in particular, have you noticed this? otherwise liking the new build the loading sound doesn't really affect me. it only 2 secods or so delay.

By Michelle on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Yes, you're not alone. The sale announcement is broken in the current beta.
The issue is fixed already, but the next beta is still in review. With any luck it will be available today.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

I have noticed that this game exists in other languages. Do you think we can add swedish? I would help but have no computer so cannot do translation.

By charles on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

In reply to by Michelle

People are asking and considering a "sell half" button or a "sell 1 quarter" button, and so on. How about a compromise of incorporating a "sell 1 quarter" button only? If you want to sell all, just hit it 4 times. I'm not on the team of testers, but this would make sense to me.

By Michelle on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

I submitted the current beta for store release. Of course, as always, I will continue working on the game. But the current build seems very stable and free of major bugs, and the feedback from all the lovely beta testers has been good.

I don't know how long it will take until the build goes through the review and is live, but based on past experience, three to six days is a good bet.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped testing! Seriously, I cannot thank you all enough!

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Michelle, please can you tell us when the beta goes live in the appstore? as this is one major disadvantage of testflight that the appstore doesn't inform testers when a new appstore version goes live, so we have no way of knowing unless we manually check on the appstore. One thing I have found is that it is difficult to get to the add slot button once we have loads of production slots, I can hold my finger on screen to zoom through the slots which isn't ideal as I have to find the particular bit of the screen to do this, but then I often find when I get to the last slot in the production area I sometimes get bounced back to the top of the screen so have to try again. also, when I am holding my finger on screen the speed at which I move through slots can vary, sometimes its slow, other times fast. there really does need to be a shortcut gesture to get quickly to the add slot button.

By Karok on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

hi is it ok to keep running the test flight build then? or do i have to download this new build, coming out from the app store? confused how this works.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

well eventually the build will expire from testflight in about 80 days or so give or take, which means it won't run after that, so chances are before that happens a new beta will be out anyway, but I plan to install the official build when it comes out so I know it won't expire etc. If you go into testflight you can look and see when it expires as it will say something like crafting kingdom then a build number and then expires in x days.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Michelle, just a thought regarding the princess, if we no longer have to visit her every day how often do we have to visit her before her gift starts to drop, and doesn't the text need updating to reflect this change?

As app updates are downloaded automatically on to my iPhone 6, I had the nice surprise of finding the latest App Store version of Crafting Kingdom on my phone this morning. I am mostly impressed with it so far. Two of the nicest, and most unexpected surprises in this new version are that my storage suddenly doubled, and that when I extended my storage it increased by twice the amount it had yesterday. I'm also impressed that the game runs faster, even on an old iPhone like mine. It's also great that, when I add a production slot, focus lands immediately on that new slot: however, holding my finger near the bottom of the screen to scroll down to the Add New Slot button no longer seems to work for me, although obviously that's not a deal-breaker, and on the whole I'm very happy with the new version. Thanks yet again to the developers for all their hard work.

By Use Small Words on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

I really enjoy playing Crafting Kingdom however, the fact that the game needs to be restarted to earn quest rewards has always confuse me slightly. I’m sure this has been covered before but is there any particular reason why this needs to happen?

hi,
This is the way that the game is set up. Once you complete all of your quest or as many as you want you can go to claim chris quest rewards double tap on that and then you can go through the process of resetting your game. Many have asked about this, and Michelle explained that this is the way the game is played. If you only want to claim one quest reward just reset your game once you have completed that particular quest that quest will no longer be there and you will get a new quest in its place this goes for however many quest you what quest rewards you clean. Sorry about that. I hope this helps and if you have any questions you can write to me, or for that matter, anyone can at Wren langley@sbcglobal.net

This is a great game and I enjoy playing it.
God bless,
Wren Langley

I don't know all the reasons for having to restart the game to get quest rewards, but I can certainly guess at one, namely that starting the game again brings you more quests, and makes you have to work to complete the new quests by making sure you have the right products and so on, while making use of the rewards you gained from the quests you've already done.

It's been a long time since I've played and I've been keeping tabs on the forums, watching for a new update. Now that one has come out recently, I'd like to start my game from scratch. How would I go about doing this? Thanks!

hi Bobby,
The way you would do this is delete your game and then reinstall the new update. This will start you from the beginning and you can play you can start from scratch. I love this game and I hope you like it also.

By Bobbi on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

In reply to by Wren

Thanks Wren, that's really helpful. Is there a way to do this if we've saved to the cloud? Can we delete our saves if we want to later start from scratch, then delete the game as you mentioned?

By Michelle on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Bobbi, the cloud save in the game is not automatic. This means you have to manually save to cloud and load from cloud. So if you want to start completely fresh, all you have to do it delete the game and install it fresh, and then don't load from cloud. You can save your new game progress to the cloud if you wanted to overwrite your save game there as well.

Derrick, yes, there is a bug in the gold which makes it turn negative when the amount gets that large. It's an annoying bug caused by an intermittent variable type not being able to handle that large of a number. I'm working on a fix.

By Wren on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

hi Bobby,
I don’t think you can delete from the cloud, but I’m not sure. I think what you could do is just save your game again when you start playing. The only way that I know to start from scratch is to uninstall your game and reinstall it. Maybe someone else knows more than I do about this. Will both learn something. Thank you. You’re very welcome for the help. I was glad to help

Hello to a couple of people that were asking about resetting your game you have to delete the app and then reinstall it well saving anything and I will reset your entire game put you back to the original one when you first download it and give her the Touriel again I also meant without saving anything to the cloud that’s how you reset it because I it myself

By Clare Page on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Yesterday, as part of my current play-through of Crafting Kingdom, I completed a quest where I had to have 750000 gold in the bank, the reward being that my bag of gold amount will be 819200 gold in my next play-through. Once I'd completed that quest, I decided to spend some of that large amount of gold on adding more slots to the mine to help complete a 5000000 salt quest. At first the gold quest mentioned above showed as completed, but I noticed yesterday evening, when I unintentionally put focus on that gold quest, that it showed up as uncompleted, with its progress being the then current amount, far less than 750000 gold, which I had at the time. I seem to recall that, in the past, when I completed such a quest, it still showed up as completed even if I'd spent some of the gold used to complete it. So I was wondering, is there a new bug in the latest App Store version of Crafting Kingdom? Whether this is a bug or not, it's not a deal-breaker: one thing I can do is make sure I have at least 750000 gold when I claim quest rewards to be ready for my next play-through.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi, there is definitely a bug with backgrounding the game, I have had this happen to me on several occasions where I will leave crafting kingdom, put my phone to sleep, then open the game later, and I will find that my boosts haven't been run down or anything the game just didn't do anything while backgrounded, it doesn't seem to happen all the time but it does happen fairly regularly.

Hi Clare!
You are not mistaken, there is indeed a bug in the gold quest. It should have stayed completed once you hit the required amount of money once. Quests are not supposed to un-complete themselves ever. So far as I can tell, this can happen when the game is turned off and started again. I'm looking into this.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi all, I have found that announcement of how much gold when you sell products seems unreliable, it announces most of the time, but every so often I sell product and get no announcement, so something is still broken in this code.
any thoughts michelle on the game backgrounding not working properly?

By alex wallis on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi Michelle,

I am going to post this to applevis as well, but there are a few boost bugs I think you should know about,

1. for some products when I use the quick study boost the unlock price to unlock products can be reduced to 0 gold so you get to unlock products for free if you use enough quick study boosts.

2. the real estate boost seems to be broken, I am trying to add lots of slots to my workshop, and in this current game when I first started using the boost it was applying to my workshop fine, but now I have I think its 56 slots in my workshop and when I activate the boosts nothing happens the price to add slots to my workshop doesn't get reduced from the pre boost levels as I would expect. I am not sure if this issue just affects the workshop or other production areas as well but the workshops is where I first noticed it as an issue.

I have saved my game to the cloud for you to look at.

I hope you find this useful,

Alex.

By Bellsfurmama on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

I have been playing every day for well over a year. For the last several months, I have been stuck with two quests in a row: 5,000 automations and then 10,000 automations. It takes forever to get these completed as I have only recieved a few of the gold quests.

I get: 150,000 to 180,000 each time in the treasure chest
800,000 in gold boost every minute
210 storage slots every time I expand
45 minutes of boost time

It doesn’t matter how many quests I complete. I never get quests to expand this. I would really love some help. I have even considered starting the game over because I am so discouraged by it. I have only done 2,400 of the 10,000 automations. It will take me months to complete that!

By Clare Page on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

I can understand frustration about how long it takes to complete the quests for 5000 and 10000 automations, but it helps to try to be patient. Even if that's not easy, the more quests you do, the more automations you will get. If you reset the game after doing all the available quests except that one, the automations quest will reappear in future play-throughs till it is completed, and restarting the game means you need to buy automations to continue other quests. I've only got 440 of 5000 automations as I write this, but i know I will get the 5000 eventually, even if it seems to take forever.

By Sabrina on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

Hi. It was long since I posted to this thread. I have the newest beta of Crafting Kingdom and love the game. However I for some reason have several billions and don't .now where I have gotten thirty billions of gold.

By alex wallis on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

this game is meant to be a long slow game, not a quick play through just be patient and keep playing. I have noticed getting the several billion gold, obviously a bug, but I am taking full advantage while I can. I have also noticed that my real estate boost doesn't seem to work at all, as well as boosts to shorten production times. still, the several billion gold should be rather helpful in getting through my 10000 automations quest. just to help people I think you get the several billion gold each time you run the bag of gold boostst though you get the billions once it expires, though you do have to be running the beta.

By Bellsfurmama on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

Thanks. I am not running the beta. I am running the last stable release. How do I get the beta?

By Paul Martin on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

I think it's been mentioned a time or 2 in this now enormous long running thread that occasionally the game will be possessed by this sort of "time machine", which will effectively stop all running boosts and even automations that should've been running at the time when it was summoned to the foreground. It silently happened if you were connected to the internet, yet having no connection available produces more interesting results. The game will silently crash the instant it's switched to until there's a connection available, and the usual IPSW file just might hold the key to finally squashing this illusive bug. I did save a file from such an occurrence.

By riyu12345 (not verified) on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

I have 15 diamond slots and 70 minutes of automation. I close the game only to open it again in about five minutes and still have around70 minutes left when I should have 65 or less.

By alex wallis on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 17:22

this is a known problem, and I think was introduced with the last major release, I for one reported the issue a few times during the last beta cycle, so hopefully michelle will get around to fixing this at some point, though at the moment she has a seriously unbalanced beta that needs fixing that hands out several billion gold for bag of gold boosts, which while fun certainly isn't what was intended I am sure.
