New to iPhone 5: Quick Question on Caller ID

I just got my new iPhone 5 yesterday. Though I have had an iPod Touch 4G for a while, I am totally new to the phone part of the iPhone. I am wondering, does the iPhone, with VoiceOver on, automatically read the caller ID of someone calling or do you have to find their number on the screen before it will read it? If it does read it, is it easily hearable over the sound of the ringtone? If it is not, there a way quickly and efficiently to mute the ring tone and have caller ID read aloud? Basic question in all of this: How do I most quickly and easily have my caller ID read when a call is coming in?

hi Misty. Congrats on the five, i still am running the four. Anyway you can usually hear the caller's number pretty well, depending on your ringtone, because it is turned down so voiceover can speak. it reads it automatically, and once your contacts are entered it can say Siobhan, iphone, or mom, home depending on how youhave things set. it still amazes me when Apple knows another apple device, i have friends I didn't know they had an iPhone and it shows up. As for muting the ring i don't think you can. You can always swipe to hear the number again, which if not in contacts is read with areacode then number. hope i helped somewhat.

I've noticed with the iPhone 5 that the voiceover volume is really low when the phone rings. I think it's one of a couple of bugs that only exist in the iPhone 5. The best way is to turn off the ringer when it's ringing. This is done by pressing the lock key. When it's pressed, the ringer will mute but the call is still active. The Voiceover volume should now be audible and you'll be able to touch the screen to hear who's calling, accept, reject or call options. Call options takes you to a screen where you can choose to respond with a quick text message saying call you back or can't talk right now. Hope this helps.

I too find that VO volume goes way down when a call comes in. And this is on the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1. It's super annoying! And this happens even when I press the lock button. Also, it's like VoiceOver becomes really, really sluggish and doesn't respond right away to swipes or touches on the screen. This, too, is also really annoying. If anyone has any advice on fixing this, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Shersey
Hi. Have you considered updating? You're running at least a version and a mini one behind everyone which is fine, if you don't like whatever you don'tlike. But i wonder if updting would fix that since your phone is running suchan older version? I'm not trying to criticise you, but in a few weeks we'll be on 6.1 not 6.01 like we have now. Seriously voice over is a little faster even on the four with IOS six. hope i might've helped a little.
Hi, glad my suggestion worked. I'm personally thankful they got rid of youtube, inever used it, and you can't take off apps they stick on. If they would only let me remove stocks, as it is, i can shove it into the utilites folder and be much happier. good luck and let me know if that works, the voice over improvements i mean.
