I signed up for the Blindfold Racer Championship on Monday and haven't stopped practicing since. Really excited to be a part of this and looking forward to it immensely. Christmas has come early!
I just signed up for the championship and i'm really excited for it to start! I just have a question: when it says I earned 2 dollars of Blindfold Games creddit, what does that mean and what can i use it for?
I'm glad that the game of llife will be made. Add cool sound effects like a baby crying when it is born some cash bells for when winning and different sounds to match which squares or places landed on.
I I was playing Blindfold Sudoku yesterday and suddenly had the idea of a Mental Arithmetic game. It has probably been suggested before, so apologies if I am covering old ground.
Obviously, the arithmetic game would have different mathematics questions on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The game would work could also be quite simple.
If for example you heard the question "5 +4" you would tap the screen with two fingers to bring up the onscreen nnumerical keyboard and find the number 9 and then just press the return key to submit your answer.
You could also have several different game modes which would make the game challenging, interesting and fun. Easy, Medium and hard levels as well.
Game modes could include survival, Time Trial or practice mode.
In survival mode, you answer as many arithmetic questions as you can until you get one wrong. The game is now over. In Time Trial mode, you answer as many arithmetic questions as you can in a specific time limit. In practice mode you can pick one of the four areas such as addition, subtraction etc, and just answer questions to get your arithmetic skills up to standard.
There is already a game like that from the AFP. However, I was thinking of doing the snakes and ladders game with math problems. Would that be interesting?
I don't know if you could program this in time for the championship, but if you could maybe make an AI car that mirrors the exact movements of either your best time on that level or the overall best time and see if you can overtake that car. It would make the game more adrenaline-pumping, and it would also make a physical goal to shoot for.
I know you folks have a sort of blindfold substitute called Color Crush, but since my sighted friends know Candy Crush or Bejewelled, and not a combination of the two that is Blindfold Color Crush, I'd really love to see the actual game that my sighted friends know, but in an accessible format.
While I am grateful for the blindfold series, and the games specifically made for blind people, I'd really like to play something that my friends or kids are playing. I'd really like to play an accessible version of something everyone else is playing.
I am currently enjoying Blindfold Horse Race, and look forward to Hangman. Now, Hangman is a game that isn't blind-specific. Sighted folks play it too, and that's the type of games I'd like to see in the future.
The two games - candy crush and bejeweled are almost identical. Candy Crush specific rules are copyrighted; that's why I did a variant. Plus, it's an audio version, so every few months, someone comes up with a good idea for more sounds, and I add that as another sound pack. I did hangman in the blindfold word games app; it has about 5 different word games in it. I may do a separate Braille Hangman, similar to the Braille Spin and Solve that helps people practice contractions.
Rather than getting a version of their game, how about getting them to play the already existing game that is accessible? After all, these games can be played by blind and sighted gamers alike, using the same skills.
Not sure if this has been suggested before, but has a version of the game of go been considered? someone was telling me about it and it sounds quite fun, but I tried the version available on ios called smart go I think, and its not accessible. I am also interested in other games such as risk.
Go is an amazing complex game, and coming up with a computer opponent's actions is quite difficult. Google's alphabet group worked on the problem for 10 years, and they were finally able to be a grand master.
To the previous poster, thanks for the heads up on Blindfold Snakes and Puzzles. I wasn't even aware of this yet but I downloaded it around an hour ago and have already played 2 games. I absolutely love it!
First, it's really cool to see that Marty has taken many of the suggestions here and made them into games. I noticed that many of the games recently got updated, but the release notes just say bug fixes and improvements. U opening them, however, it looks like the option to earn coins by watching adds has been removed. I don't mind this, as most of the newer games never had that option to begin with, but could the user guides be updated to reflect this?
As for an idea for a future game, how about a blindfold endless runner. Something like Temple Run, Sonic Dash, or the upcoming Super Mario Run. I know there are a couple audio games that are similar on iOS, but I haven't tried them. I'm also not really a fan of games that are only controlled by moving the phone, i. e. blindfold hopper, and I think that's how the existing games work.
As i move through the apps, I'll eliminate those - I forgot about that. I had to recently update all apps to handle iOS 10, as well as switch the cloud service provider, as the one we were using is shutting down their service in February of next year. As to the ads, the way we did it before generated a total of $150 across all apps for the past year. It didn't even cover the cost of writing the software to work with the advertisement provider.
Trivia Match is the latest offering in the Blindfold Series. It is similar to the gameshow Jeopardy. It is extremely addictive and simple to play. Another great addition to the Blindfold series!
I know that this will most likely be seen as a rather stupid question but I thought I would ask it anyway.
Now I know that in most Blindfold games, there is always the option to purchase unlimited coins. Now I have noticed that the new Trivia Match game does not have this option, but if you purchase any of the Trivia packs, you do get an additional 500 coins to play.
My stupid question is this, if a player purchases all four trivia packs, I would assume that they would then have 2000 coins to play. What would happen if the same user plays all of their 2000 games, how would they get more? I understand that it would take a very long time to play 2000 games but I think it might be a valid one.
Is there a particular reason why an "Unlimited Coins" pack is not available and that the only way to get additional coins is to buy one of the trivia packs?
Again, I am not complaining, I will most likely buy the first pack and therefore get 500 coins, but like I said, most other games have that "Unlimited Coin" pack.
Thanks and keep up the great work, love the new Snakes and Puzzle game.
I believe I had a very simple rule set with my C program for the AI, though not sure if it might've been too simplistic.
I think the hardest part would be figuring out how the AI should know when to choose the trump suit. I believe I assigned a number value to each potential trump card in the AI's hand and, if it added up to a specific number or more, the AI would choose trump. I believe I had set specific thresholds, though - a higher threshold was needed to "go alone" and AI was more likely to "order up", slightly, if their partner was the one being ordered up with a high value trump card.
IE:
Face-up card is a 10 of Hearts
Right bower (Jack of Hearts) = 10 pts
Left Bower (Jack of Diamonds) = 9 points
Ace of Hearts = 8 points
etc. etc.
If the AI's got enough of a hand in that specific suit, AI will order up/choose trump. I suppose variations on this could be fiddled with to make it easier/harder?
Then there are specific rules for what to play/lead with.
- If AI made/ordered trump, lead with highest trump suit card.
- If AI's partner is currently winning the hand, play lower value card so as not to waste a higher value card on a trick that is already won (IE 'dn't screw your partner'.)
- Similarly, if AI partner leads with a non-trump suit, do not play a trump on it if they seem to be winning.
- If another player leads with trump suit, AI plays highest value trump card that will beat it (or lowest value if they do not have one that will beat it). If they have no trump, play lowest value non-trump card.
- If other player leads with non-trump suit, AI will play low value trump card to try to trump it (only if player leading is not partner and if someone else hasn't already trumped the trick). If AI has card matching that suit, AI plays highest value card in that suit that will beat lead card (or lowest value if they do not have a card high enough to beat them.)
I suppose it'd be a bit difficult to come up with for someone who doesn't play.
I think the extra coins you get is irrelevant. Once you own a pack, you can play that pack as much as you want. Coins were only included to let people play a few games prior to deciding if they want to purchase. I'll fix that in a future version.
I was surprised to see this on the app store yesterday. For the most part, it's really cool. The music is even an arrangement of the "think" music from Jeopardy. It does seem to have some quirks though. It seems like a lot of the time one question will be used multiple times in the same game, so you'll get the exact same question for 10 and 20 dollars. Also, looks like questions were pulled from the actual show, which is cool, but is also quirky, as you'll often get picture questions, which doesn't make sense for a jeopardy clone designed for blind players.
I also don't understand how unlimitted play is supposed to work in this one. The user guide says you don't buy coins, but just buy the different trivia packs. There's also still an option to buy 15 coins to get a few more plays of the game. Do you automatically get the original question set if you buy any of the packs? I think it'd also be cool if eventually users could submit questions to be added, as the downside of games like this is the content gets old. Good game though, with enough differences to make it unique.
I think what confused me a little, when going through the list of additional trivia packs, VoiceOver reads the cost but then says "500 games", which I took it as you were getting 500 coins as well as the additional trivia questions from the purchased pack. Secondly, when navigating it by character, there was missing a space between the cost and the word "500 games". Might want to put a comma and space so VoiceOver reads it a little better and doesn't think that the price tag and the number 500 is all one word.
Another question, if purchasing a trivia pack allows you to play that pack for as much as you want, why does it say "500 games" for each pack? Like I said, that is what confused me as it appeared by the way it was written that when purchasing the pack, you could play a total of 500 games.
The next version will clear all this up. Coins won't be required - only the purchase of trivia packs. I do like the idea someone mentioned of being able to contribute questions. I'll add that.
My apologies for asking this again, but if I get this straight, when you first download and install the game, you get 10 coins to play the basic game? If you buy one of the additional trivia packs, you no longer require coins to play the pack you purchased? So it's like you have unlimited coins for that particular pack you bought?
Hi Marty, just thought I'd pass this along, it appears that VoiceOver is having a glitch when reading the list of add-ons, specifically the 4 trivia packs. When it reads one, let's say the first one, VoiceOver Reads it as "Puzzle Pack 1 $8.49Puzzles 51 - 550". There seems to be a missing space between the dollar amount and the word Puzzle, and an extra space between "Puzzle Pack 1" and the dollar amount. Now I know that this is trivial but with VoiceOver, it does sound quite different. Perhaps nothing can be done and this is simply the way the text appears in the game but I thought I would let you know just in case. Thanks again for the great work, I've already purchased the first pack and am loving it so far.
Hi it would be nice if you could use your phone for things as throwing and stuff like that. Like in Bowling if you could push your phone forward to throw and tilt it left and right to line up. Also if you could turn off the ping that you have to wait for to throw that would be great too! Also will we see a Life game in the near future?
Someone mentioned doing away with the ping in bowling. The ping is the indicator of when to shoot. It is what makes the game different, because you must wait for that ping before you release. That is why you will get an error and the ball is not bowled unless you wait for the ping. The difficulty would be decreased without the ping.
I don't know how realistic it would be from a development standpoint, but speaking as a player, I think it'd be a good idea to have options for swipe-based or motion-based controls. I never really got the hang of Hopper because of the motion controls - I think I would enjoy it more if you could just swipe. On the other hand, though, I think bowling is just begging for motion controls, like in Wii Sports. That would be awesome, especially if bowling could be used for a future competition.
Speaking of competition, I keep seeing on Twitter that more blindfold games competitions are coming soon. That has definitely peaked my interest. That leads me to another question though. I didn't participate in the blindfold racer championship, but does the version of the game released for that replace the original one, even though the competition is over? I opened the original one the other day and got an alert saying it may slow down my iPhone because it hasn't been updated for a long time. Has it been depricated?
That stinks I would have paid for motion in Bowling. This would have been really cool as it would have been like Wii! I do not think that the throw indicator makes the game harder at all it is just an annoyance as half the time it does not even register. In other bowling games and in a real game there is nothing that stops you from throwing the ball and the game is still challenging. Also if this was an option you could buy people could decide if they wanted it on or off. I find this ping sort of childish in a way.
I can understand the previous poster's wish to have motion-based gestures in Blindfold Bowling, or at least the choice of having those, but I can also understand Marty's decision to do a survey and choose the way of controling the game which the people who responded to the survey preferred. Doing a survey and respecting the answers given is definitely not childish, in fact I'd say Marty is grown-upp and sensible, asking us for feedback so that he can make these games even better for us to play. I didn't answer the survey about Blindfold Bowling, but I prefer using my fingers on the screen rather than moving the phone around, even though the latter may well be more authentic when compared to real bowling. In an ideal world, it would be good to have a choice between motion-based gestures and onscreen gestures for several of the blindfold games, but this may not be practical, it would probably mean a major rewrite of some games such as Blindfold Bowling, and a big decision whether this rewrite is really needed.
I meant that the ping you have to wait for to throw is a bit childish. I respect Marty's decision about the survey. I thought that was pretty clear in my last post but sorry if it wasn't.
Is it possible to make a Five Nights at Freddy's type game? I like to watch the let's plays that Markiplier does on Youtube and I've always wanted to play those games, especially the newest one. I know that Five Nights at Freddy's one through four are in the App Store but they aren't accessible.

Stupid Question for Trivia Match

And I may be able to do this in a pseudo-code sort of logic tree, too, if I have enough time. LOL. (At work now so can't really.)

I was surprised to see this on the app store yesterday. For the most part, it's really cool. The music is even an arrangement of the "think" music from Jeopardy. RE: Trivia Match Coins
Thanks again for the great games!
Coins
The next version will clear all this up. Coins won't be required - only the purchase of trivia packs. I do like the idea someone mentioned of being able to contribute questions. I'll add that.
Updated pricing
I think I had an old version of the in-app upgrade file shipped with the game. I just updated it, and now it will show the puzzle packs properly.
Question on Coins
Hi Marty,
My apologies for asking this again, but if I get this straight, when you first download and install the game, you get 10 coins to play the basic game? If you buy one of the additional trivia packs, you no longer require coins to play the pack you purchased? So it's like you have unlimited coins for that particular pack you bought?
VoiceOver Reading Glitch
More motion would be nice
Hi it would be nice if you could use your phone for things as throwing and stuff like that. Like in Bowling if you could push your phone forward to throw and tilt it left and right to line up. Also if you could turn off the ping that you have to wait for to throw that would be great too! Also will we see a Life game in the near future?
Coins
Yes, you are correct. Coins are only used when first trying out the game. Then you buy a trivia pack and unlimited play for the puzzles in each pack.
Voiceover
That should be fixed now.
Throwing gestures
I did a survey on that in both bowling and basketball, and in both cases, very few people wanted it.
the ping is the indicator
Someone mentioned doing away with the ping in bowling. The ping is the indicator of when to shoot. It is what makes the game different, because you must wait for that ping before you release. That is why you will get an error and the ball is not bowled unless you wait for the ping. The difficulty would be decreased without the ping.
control type options
I don't know how realistic it would be from a development standpoint, but speaking as a player, I think it'd be a good idea to have options for swipe-based or motion-based controls. I never really got the hang of Hopper because of the motion controls - I think I would enjoy it more if you could just swipe. motion controls
When I do tennis, I will add swipes in addition to motion.
For bowling, I did a survey and very few people wanted to pay for a bowling swing gesture..
Blindfold Racer
I will release the version used in the championship within a few weeks.
That stinks
That stinks I would have paid for motion in Bowling. This would have been really cool as it would have been like Wii! I do not think that the throw indicator makes the game harder at all it is just an annoyance as half the time it does not even register. In other bowling games and in a real game there is nothing that stops you from throwing the ball and the game is still challenging. Also if this was an option you could buy people could decide if they wanted it on or off. I find this ping sort of childish in a way.
Respecting survey results isn't childish
I ment the ping
I meant that the ping you have to wait for to throw is a bit childish. I respect Marty's decision about the survey. I thought that was pretty clear in my last post but sorry if it wasn't.
Five Nights at Freddy's
Is it possible to make a Five Nights at Freddy's type game? I like to watch the let's plays that Markiplier does on Youtube and I've always wanted to play those games, especially the newest one. I know that Five Nights at Freddy's one through four are in the App Store but they aren't accessible.
