Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editor's Note: the Usability Rating has been amended to reflect the comments that indicate the map may cause problems for VoiceOver users.

Original Comments: i was very impressed with the level of accessibility of this game. The only feature I had difficulty using was the map, and i did figure out a way to locate castles on it. As for upgrading buildings, there is a button at the top labeled "Castle Buildings", double tap that, and then you'll be presented with a list of buildings (e.g., wood store, library, quarry, tavern, etc). If you have enough resources to upgrade, then you can double tap the upgrade button next to each building. If not, the button will be dimmed. If you tap on the name of the building, you'll enter the dail view which will give you more info about what the building does, how much resources it will cost to upgrade, and other specific options according to that building (e.g., you'll be presented with a list of missions you can perform in tavern, or research you can do in the library). i'm just starting out, but if anyone has any questions, feel free to comment and i will do my best to answer them.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Upgrade your library. then try upgrading your farm if you don't have the resources. Where are you and I'll try and write to the leader of my alliance I"m in and they can rec route you. they are very helpful there.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello, where can I find the location of my castle? Also, my library is already updated, and I have all the resources I need to get the weapon smith. I just can't find the button on how to activate it.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

In reply to by Snarfette

Hmm. All I did for mine was upgrade and research the log bow and I had access to the archers and one day the flaming arrows. I don't think you activate the person, he or she just is.

Take care.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Can you tell me where to find the flaming arrows? Is it in the arsenal? I'm wondering which building is it in? I think I know now what I'm doing wrong. I'm looking at it in the library, but I think that's not where I can get it. Thank you very much for all your help. I really appreciate it.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

The flaming arrows are available to be researched after you reach a certain level of the library in addition to the WeaponSmith, to be exact level 8. The WeaponSmith is a pre-requisite, but the level of the library is also a requirement to learn the skill. It is a bit confusing at first but you will get the hang of it. Note that the Lancer Horseman is also unlocked similarly, requireing you to be a certain level in the library in conjunction to the pre-requisite. I only know that you can see a listing of the alliances by their ranking, not by a search box. If you would like I can pass along your name. Your X/Y location can be found by three finger swiping vertically or horizontally in the map screen. It's hard to find your exact location but a rough guess along with your castle name should be enough for people to find you. If you want an exact location it can be found by copying your castle link in the map page after clicking on your castle from the map tab. Paste it in any edit box and it should reveal two sets of numbers. This is your exact location. This is the simplest way I've found to get it without the help of a sighted person. Hope this helps.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

That helps tremendously. Is there a way to find out the levels needed to get something? It would have prevented a lot of confusion on my end if it says something like "require level 8" for example for the flaming arrows. Is that possible to show on the game? If so, how can I do it? Again, thanks for all your help.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

As far as I know there isn't a way. I think by level 8 in the Library everything required for the troops is available, so you won't have to worry about prereqs after that. A few other things to mention, be sure to register your account because if you have to for any reason reset or re-install IOS in your device, you will lose your game data. By doing this you can log in after installing the game via the log in data button without having to start over. Simply deleting the app from what I've seen doesn't affect your progress but i wouldn't chance it. You don't have to hit the back button to go back all the time, instead you can click on what ever tab you are in a second time to start at the main page of that tab. For example if you are in the Ore Mine, click the castle tab again even though it is highlighted and it will put you in the main castle page, eliminating having to look for the back button. This works especially well if you are several links into a tab. Attacking and defending is best learned by your alliance members if you join a knowledgeable bunch of people. You can try to find guides on it but until you have hands on experience with it, it is hard to explain. If you or anyone is interested the alliance I am in does teach you the basics of the game and I believe is still recruiting.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

In reply to by Nolly

I'm actually working on a guide as I progress through the game and will post it on my blog as soon as it's pollished. It will be probably several months though. I'm having fun wiht it though.

Take care.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Has anyone noticed that during some point in the game there are adds? I have to close these and I really don't know what to do about it as it is ruining the flow of things. I noticed it at around 4 this morning and I cannot get them to go away. They appear at random and this is starting to turn me off from the game. Is there an in app purchase you could make to turn iAdds off in this game? Over all it's wonderful and I'm working on getting my stuff up to level 22 before my 14 days are up.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

In reply to by Snarfette

For the person that asked about the flaming arrows, the alliance I'm in are recruiting. If you give me your castle link I'll give them the link and they will send you an invite. .

To find your castle, tap it on the map then copy the castle link and paste it here.

Oh by the way the web interface for the game is 100 percent inaccessible after you log in with facebook. Just thought I'd let those who wanted to know a while ago know.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello, When I copied and pasted the link for my castle, my coordinates showed 16215, 16335. Hope I got the right one. Thanks for all your help.

I need the actual link. tha'ts all they except. I guess they do it from the inaccessible web client. lol! This goes for anyone else who wants to join. I will give them the info and hope they will ecept it. Maybe they will. they seem like good guys and they have helped me a lot.

Take care to all and love the game. Now if the map would be fied, it would be pefect. The music rocks to.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Tim you are extremely north west of everyone I know, including those not in my alliance. Regardless of who you join, make sure you know where the masses of the alliance are located. It is possible to move closer but it would take time primarily because your movement is determined by your castle level. For example I am near 16400 16550 or so, taking in to account the max level a single castle can be is 288, no matter where you go it will take time and patience to be near those you play with. That being said I moved 171 fields and am doing great, so if this doesn't deter you the location you gave is great but will need the name associated with the castle to be certain. Also if you prefer, the training alliance I am in (until I enter the main alliance) is ranked 35th overall in the alliances listing. You can't seem to search for alliances but I'm sure someone has sent a random alliance request and you can use this to find Resolution. Click in the invite that was sent in the alliance tab, click on that alliances rank and from there scroll up or down till you find Resolution (or the alliance you seek). If you like what you see from Resolution click on the name and search for someone named Swamp Donkey. Send him a message along with my name asking if an invitation is possible and if you are comfortable saying it that you use the voice over system. It is purely up to you who you join, but I advise you to not join an alliance unless that alliance is what you are looking for. You can tell somewhat by how they word things when you recieve their solicitation message to join their crew. This is how I came across the alliance I am currently in. The others sounded like they are extremely young and a bit caotic and arrogant. always starting with "We are the best", "You need to join us", or "If you oppose us you will fail". Why join a guild who is going to cause wars with everyone and make themselves a huge target right off? Either way enjoy the immunity period and decide when it is about to wear off. If at that time you feel you don't have the time or patience or even desire to move, join an alliance very close to you and I am sure you will be fine.

Well, they just got back to me and it's no problem What is your nick name on there? Tha way they can just search for you. I think they also hate using the map as well. lol! Hehahahaha. This is a friendly bunch of folks who show you the ropes. I'll also try and find you as well and then get your link. Good luck and be blessed and feel free to message me on there wiht yoru nick name. Mi'm marrie on there if you want to find me. or my castle link is

Can anybody tell me how to get copper? It says that I need copper to spy on a castle, but I don't know how to get copper. I thought it would be on market, but I don't see it. Does it have to be a certain level to exchange for copper? Thanks for all your help.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Copper is obtained via trade in the keep. In the keep look for something that looks like this - Copper Wood 1 8 Stone 1 8 Ore 1 8. That is actually clickable and from there you can send away resources to exchange it for Copper. The same goes for Silver. Almost everything is clickable in this game, so when in doubt click it.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Well, I contacted the developer yesterday and he got back to me at some late hour when I was asleep. He seems willing to forward the suggestion on. Why not you all contact him about the map on the ios side of things anyway Use the support link they have. it does have a captcha but it is easy to get around if you have webvisum or rumola. ad the audo catptcha is actually understandable if you need it. Here is what they said. Hello Sarah, we thank you for this feedback and will definitely pass it on for discussion and evaluation, as ever we are happy for any contribution we receive, meanwhile we wish you a great weekend, Yeah they are very friendly all right. Take care to all and hth.

I almost forgot, if you ever get bored of the music and sound effects in Lords and Knights, you can still download the Xmas version. The game world is the same in the regular edition, so you can either start a new game or log in to your existing account and enjoy Christmas music and themes all year round. It's pretty funny when those around you hear the game and ask "What the heck are you playing?". To download it simply go to profile>more apps>Xmas Knights, or search for it in the app store.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Way cool. I might do that in july as tha'ts when I have my first christmas, Ok it's a summer tridition but yeha that's good to know. and it will be a nice brake from my graduation project.

Thanks for making my day.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

I didn't spill any information on the sound effects but let me just say a lot of them are different from each other. I spent some time just doing everything I could do just to hear them all. I play with the music off in the regular version but keep it on in the Xmas version just for the fun of it. I am tempted to download the halloween version of their game similar to Lords and Knights just to hear what it is like.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello, the lords and knights is having an easter special about annex a castle. Can sombebody tell me what is that, and how can I go about in doing it? Thanks for all the help in advance.

By Nolly on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Instantly taking over a free castle no matter how far it is from you with gold coins instead of silver. Basically a way for those without the time and patience to claim another castle without spending the time to collect silver. Normally it cost 3,000 gold coins but I believe for Easter it is cut in half.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello to all. I tried to find a way to register for their forums as I need a bit of help over there. I cannot find a way to do it. googling funnily enough came up with this page close to the top on the first page. lol! Anyone registered there, can you help?

Thanks.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

In reply to by Nolly

It is but gold is more expensive and I'd rather collect my free castles with silver. the will be easy as all they are are level 1 forces. also the time is cut in half from 7 days to 5 days according to the easter message for anexing the castles.

Take care.

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello, can somebody show me step by step how to move my castle from one place to another? I want to move my castle a little over 200 fields. Does it cost silver or gold to do this? Also, how can I get gold? It says something about watching commercials, but I cant find the place to watch it. Another question If you lost a castle once, does it eliminate free castles that are one field away from you? I'm looking at a friend's castle, and they said they have a free castle one field away from them. I cant see it for some reason, why? If I cant move my castle, how can I start a new one and be in the vicinity where I want to be?

By Snarfette on Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 17:09

Hello, I'm back for more questions lol. I saw that they are having some kind of a special deal on gold. I see the link for the shop, but when I tried to double tap on it, it will not do anything. I also tried to activate it through the router, and still nothing happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By Nolly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 - 17:09

First you can not move a castle but you can capture additional castles by attacking and ccapturing them with troops and silver. You will need one thousand silver for each castle you currently own. If you own two and are trying to capture a third you need two thousand silver.

The reason you can't see the free castle next to your friend is your map is zoomed in. To zoom out turn off voice over, use the pinch inward gesture on the center of the screen and then turn voice over back on. You will now see a lot more previously unseen castles.

Lords and Knights often has issues with links getting stuck. If this happens log out in the profile tab and log back in to reset it. You can also see the gold purchaseable by clicking on the gold denomination link in the keep and profile tabs.

A word of advice before you run out and spend money on gold. Make sure you are in a fairly strong alliance. I've seen several castles get taken that were either not in an alliance, created one of their own with less than 10 members or were simply too weak and didn't play enough to assist when they were under attack. Most big alliances will help you capture a castle near the heart of their forces, where you will be better protected from hostile take overs. This game is not one of those join your friends alliance that has your drinking buddies or other part time players. You will want one with members that play often and will have your back with the strength to fend off attackers. I've done this and now am six castles strong and in the process of taking my 7th very soon.

By Nolly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 - 17:09

You can only move the number of fields of your castle. So if you are 150, you can only move 150 frields. This is important when trying to capture a castle very far from you.

By Nolly on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 17:09

The new version has a bug that will give you issues with the map causing it to become stuck on a particular field. I would avoid it for now unless you really want to see silver during attacks.

It's always a good idea to keep the previous versions of certain apps in case something becomes broken in a new version, since you cannot downgrade via the appstore.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 17:09

I'm not havingv the issue. I managed to capture 3 castles so far and am working on a 4th the new version. Try contacting the dev with a bug report format as that seems to help. It helps me when somethign brakes on my site(s)

Take care.

By Nolly on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 17:09

I don't bother the devs personally with minor bugs of inconvenience that don't affect the core of game play, and I probably won't with this one as it's easily dealt with. I complain enough as it is over small silly things that aren't important.

My sister and another have confirmed that the bug is there, but I've discovered it only happens if you swipe to a particular nameless field that only displays how far it is from you. I forgot to mention earlier that you can tap a different part of the screen to get out of being stuck, but will get stuck again if you swipe over that square.

I've already downgraded and I still suggest keeping older versions of apps if not for future bugs but for other things such as options/settings of a particular version you may like over the newer one. Older versions aren't useable forever but they should be good for awhile. An example is I kept an outdated version of Audible when they eliminated certain controls, but thankfully they decided to add them back in a few updates later. In that time though I didn't have to use the app without the controls I liked.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 17:09

Lol. I bug the dev no matter how mundain. they want you to do that as it might effect other people as well. even if it is right down to a spelling and caps mistake. I want the game to be 100 percent perfect. lol!

Take care.

By pblackmer on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 17:09

I just started playing this game and love it. If anyone is on US server 7 I'd love to join alliances. Also if gamecenter friends can be helpful my nickname is the original Phil. I also play Solara and would love more gamecenter friends for these and other games.

By Justice on Thursday, July 24, 2014 - 17:09

Since the update has anyone had trouble viewing troop numbers on battle reports?
I could not get voiceover to read them and was wondering if anyone else had same experience, I tried sending feedback to the developer however it requires an image capture solution to complete
I could not solve it so I wrote a review on the App Store instead

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, July 24, 2014 - 17:09

Use rumola to solve the captcha. I've submited feedback and they get back to me with in about 3 days.

You will see time remaining. You will be notified when it is done.

By Mike_NZ on Thursday, September 24, 2015 - 17:09

Just be aware that updating to IOS 9 will affect the accessibility of the app. A couple of things I have noticed is that it doesn't announce which castle is selected when you are selecting a different one. Also, in the graphical view in a castle, it reads the levels of the buildings wrong, e.g. it may say a level 10 keep is level 4, but it has no upgrade button, meaning it knows it is 10, just reading wrong. Hopefully they catch up and fix the issues. If someone could let the developer know, I doubt they are even aware.

I'm playing Crazy Tribes another game from the same developers as L&K. It has the same bugs you mentioned and maybe more. I'm still testing it out but the bugs are making it hard to play. I hope the devs fix this soon!

By BlindSarcasm on Thursday, December 24, 2015 - 17:09

So, I actually downloaded this game like a year or more ago, but never got into playing it. I came across it in my "purchased" apps and decided to give it another shot.

I'm quite impressed!

I'm roughly 2 days into my 14day "grace period" and already have 3 castles and 200 "points" or whatever the player rankings are based on (ya know, the points listed in your summary?).

I formed an alliance for other blind players to join, but would be just as interested in hooking up with an existing alliance consisting mainly of other blind players.

My L+K nickname is BlindSarcasm and my capitol city (main castle) is Rillanon. Its coordinate link is l+k://coordinates?16494,16260&144.

@BlindSarcasm is also my name on GameCenter as well as Twitter, so feel free to hit me up on both.

By Hubert on Sunday, January 24, 2016 - 17:09

Hi,
I've been playing this game before, and although I'm not playing at this point, I still throughout the 2 years I've been looking at this game find one thing quite strange. I'm writing this comment, because I'm interested whether I'm missing something here, or if this is something that's done by design.
The issue I've got, is regarding the subjects at your castle. So, let's say you've got a castle that's mostly complete, nearly all your buildings are done, all you need is a few upgrades. Say your farm is complete, and you cannot upgrade it anymore, so I assume this means that when you use up the subjects that the last upgrade gave you, you won't get anymore subjects? Now, this is what I find difficult to process. Even though the building upgrades are complete, and all the research projects are also complete, and you have over 400 of each army member, doesn't the subject limit put you at a disadvantage, considering once all the subjects are used, you cannot get anymore army for your castle. So, this means, that if someone sends an attack on your castle, with over a thousand of each army member, but you only have over 400 because you can't get anymore subjects, you will most likely have your castle taken. This is what it looks like to me at least. Can anyone confirm this, or tell me whether I'm missing something here? It just seems like players are put at a disadvantage here.
Hubert

I'm concerned about that too, Hubert - can anyone shed any light on that if it is the case? Is there a level cap for the Farm? I haven't reached it yet, myself, though I find myself fearing attack by other players that seem to send an inordinate number of troops to the point where I can't seem to win.

For example, I started playing a month ago and, not knowing any better, opted to take over a Free Castle next to my original castle very early on in my "Newbie Mode"/"Protected Mode". Essentially my resources were split, as I was doing the Tasks and accepting the rewards between the 2 castles. Turns out this was a major weakness since at the very minute my Beginner protection ended (or so it seemed), both my castles were attacked by 1000s of troops. I tried to frantically update my Fortifications and make more troops, but both my castles were lost.

I opted to start again and this time avoided taking over a 2nd castle - I've been focusing all in updating my single castle. My Beginner protection just ended yesterday and, so far, I haven't been attacked yet (knock on wood.) I had got my husband to play, too, though, and he had gone the single castle route until a week after his Beginner's protection ended and he took over a 2nd castle - it seemed only 4 days after this that he was also attacked by someone on both his castles with 1000s of troops that he has no hope of defending against (60 battle rounds or something ridiculous like that.)

Is there a way to best protect against these attacks? I'm starting to get a bit hesitant, as my troop count is probably just as high as my husband's was and it looks like he'll lose his castles.

Maybe it's best not to branch into a 2nd castle until you've pretty well maxed your original castle? It seems like if you have more than one castle, you become a target.

But if there is a troop limit based on a Farm level cap, how are you supposed to defend against these things?

I suppose another factor is that hubby and I just created our own Alliance rather than join any of the other alliances peddling for our membership that seem to all use a ridiculous amount of symbols, etc., in their names. I guess having a powerful alliance at your back may deter these random attacks for fear of retribution? It seems in bad taste to demolish newbies so thoroughly, though this is the internet after all.

Makes me wish we had a castle building game that didn't involve the risk of players completely taking weeks of work away from you because they feel like being mean. Though I can see why they'd rather go after our castles instead of free ones - our castles will be levelled up already enough so they'll be better defended than a Free castle. It just seems hard to get a foothold.

By Hubert on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 - 17:09

Hi Kristen,
My first tip of advice would be not to take over any castles until you first one is complete. I've tried many times to get 2 castles before my original castle was complete, and it never worked well for me in the end and I ended up losing both castles.
The farm maximum level is level 30, like with most of the buildings, and you'll have just enough subjects to upgrade all your buildings, complete all researches, and recruit around 500 of each type of soldier in the arsenal, however, there's no way to get more subjects, at least from what I've seen. The problem with being attacked by more than twice the numbers of your army, yes, that can be a problem, and it does look like we're at a bit of a disadvantage here.
I once was in a situation when I had one completed castle, and one that I just took over, I had a few army recruited in my new castle, and the most army I could in my original castle, however, I couldn't get the army from my new castle to defend my original castle, but I could do it the other way round, where the army from my original castle would defend my new castle. I'm not sure whether this was due to the fact that the new castle wasn't strong enough yet to be able to send army to defend my original castle. However, The last time I played, I lost my original castle, and was left with my new one, however, I'm not sure how I'll be able to defend my castles considering there's always more troops attacking me than I can defend against.
As for alliances, I'm afraid this experience isn't as good as people make it out to be. I find that creating your own alliance with friends is better, because then at least they'll help you. I found that when I called for help to other alliance members in the alliance that I've been invited to, they all have been ignored, so if you don't have an alliance with your friends, it seems like people won't be too keen to help you, at least from what I experienced.

Thanks for the reply, Hubert. I think I'm going to stick with my original castle and try maxing it out and hope that I don't get attacked before then.

I did some searching online and the only defensive strategy I noted was called "trickling". Apparently it takes advantage of the fact you only need at minimum 101 troops in your castle at the time to trigger a battle round and that, even if you lose, you only lose 50% of your troops in that round (IE around 50.) Apparently the trick is to keep 50-60 troops arriving every 10 minutes just-in time for the battle rounds so that you have enough for the round, though your losses are minimized.

From the gist of this, you'd have to look at when the first round starts and find something to send your troops away for - lets say Market trades - and see how long it would take them to finish that and come back. So if sending 60 Archers away to trade for wood takes 1 hour, you'd wait until 1 hour before the battle and start sending 60 troops away to do trivial market trades every 10 minutes. Then, theoretically, you'd stop when you only had 101 or more troops left in the castle. Then when the battle starts, groups of 60 reinforcements would come in to replace what was lost in the battle round and hopefully will last long enough.

Seems a bit tedious, though may be the only way to ensure your castle survives enough so you can get the 5 castles or however much you need to make a Fortress.

I may see about trying it if/when I get attacked. Probably is too late for the hubby's castles, alas.

Sounds like an interesting method, haven't heard of that before, well, hopefully you won't, but should you get attacked do let me know if that method works for you. Although hopefully you won't have to use it too soon.
