IHeart radio is usable, in terms of accessibility. true, most buttons aren't labeled, but the button right next to the volume slider is used to stop/start the stream. else, everything, in my opinion that you'd want to do with the app is workable. and, with the ducking of the audio, you don't need to stop the stream to change stations. only thing i can't figure out, is how to add favorites...

You may as well get OOTunes. It has a lot more stations in it and it is fully accessible. This app is a nightmare with VO.
It's ridiculous that IHeartRadio remains so inaccessible and how Clear Channel has ignored us completely. I would expect much better out of the biggest broadcasting conglomerate in the United States. Of course, their websites and just about everything else about the company is inaccessible to the blind, so why am I so surprised? Maybe I need to go after Clear Channel's media relations folks and use that journalistic approach to ask them about accessibility.

One comment somewhere on here did state it correctly in that although not perfect, the app is usable. Another one was also correct in pointing out that cheap channel never has and short of penalty of death never will go out of its way to make their digital products totally accessible to those of us who are blind. All of that said, they do appear to have caught a small touch of luck with the most recent IOS update. It appears that they changed enough stuff around with voice over that the previously unlabled or badly labeled buttons now offer a hint as to what they do. For instance, as previously sited, the stop button is right near the volume button. It now says "btn stop". Other buttons provide similar input now when they did not in the past. Still haven't learned the favorite thing either but then again, I haven't tried it since the IOS update so I might be surprised and it might work too. Now that the word is out that Iheart radio works a little better, I still say one should go ahead, lay the five bucks and get Ootunes. You'll like it, trust me.

I must say before the 2.3 versionit was accessable at least to me before they put in that shake it Crap now you can't choose like in the previous version why did they mess this up they should have left it alone. Have a good day if anyone can work around it let me know I'm still trying to figure it out have an awesome day people

voiceOver read all the the text on this app.

in this app you can listen your favorite radio station and create radio station very similar to Pandora but for iHeartRadio is comercial free, Note. You neeed to create a iHeartRadio account to create your own radio stations.

Hello: The most recent update to iHeart Radio introduces something very annoying to VoiceOver users. It seems that the good people at Clear Channel now see a need to include constantly updating stuff in this app. This breaks accessibility because the updates change about every 5 seconds or so and they come up in such a way that VoiceOver treats them like a window change and tries to put focus on the first thing in the window. This makes it next to impossible to get around in the app. Even when you do manage to work fast enough to dodge the focus changes, VoiceOver adds the window change sound to whatever you're listening to which makes listening to anything in this app far less than enjoyable.

If I knew how to get the previous version of the app, i'd downgrade in a second but i'm not really sure how. I can't remember if i updated this app to the newest version on both my iPod, and the pc as well. If anyone knows how to downgrade to the previous version i'd love to know! the developers have royally screwed up this app, so i am hoping someone can explain to them how to change it so we can use it again.

Just for a goof, I tried the iHeart radio app a little bit ago, and what to my surprise it actually works very well again. I don't know if updating to iOS 6 was what did the trick, all i know is the app works just as it did before, no fast refreshing and I'm able to navigate it just fine. So if you've deleted the app, get it again and try it out and let me know what you guys all think.

the app itself wasn't 100% accessible but it was somewhat usable. On the latest update what the app does now it refeshes itself constantly. I sent iheart an email to see if a least the refreshing could be turn off or a least be given an option to turn it off.

iHeart Radio has been updated. They added a sleep timer and alarm feature. I've not played with either, but I disovvered that in the home area of the app content is still refreshing every few seconds. If you get into one of the tabs it will not refresh thank God. I've finally been able to find stations to listen too and I created a couple of stations for the first time.

I agree, John. OOTunes is excellent. While it costs a few bucks, OOTunes is accessible and takes far less time to get to the stations you're looking for. iHeartRadio needs to take some cues from other accessible apps. Not just for the sake of users of screen readers, but for general ease of use. People want to get to their content, not spend a lot of time fiddling with an uncooperative app.

I'm using an iPhone 4S with iOS7, and the app seems fine. It's not the friendliest app I've ever seen, but if i had to give it a rating, i'd say the app is completely accessible if you're willing to tolerate a few issues. I'm not seeing any automatic refreshes. The buttons aren't 100% labeled but they're clear enough to be easily figured out. I've been able to work with settings, create stations, like and dislike songs, browse and favorite stations, etc. It's just my opinion, but those in charge of the ratings on Applevis might want to take another look at this one, because I really think it deserves a better rating. If anybody has specific questions concerning this app, I'll be happy to try and help.

What's New in Version 5.0.0
The best-looking iHeartRadio ever. Completely free.

• For You - Find a new world of stations you'll love, based on the music you listen to.
• New Player - Go to Settings > Player Display to unlock it.
• Search – Rebuilt and lightning fast. Millions of tracks, thousands of stations.
• Listen longer with more battery life and fewer bugs.

**

My accessibility observations so far for this version:
Before 5.0.0, I could log into my Facebook just fine, browse for stations, thumbs-up/down a song, Etc. Most buttons were clearly labeled.
Now, with 5.0.0, I can still search for stations, see my recently-played stations, favorites, etc. However, once I'm in a station, most of the buttons aren't labeled correctly. There's a button that says selected, I'm not sure what it does. The thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons just say 'button'. The back button, the song title/artist and the stop button are all labeled.
I've only tried out the new version for a few minutes, so I can't comment on the battery life thing, and I haven't tried out the new features just yet. I just thought that people would be interested in the accessibility of this app again.
Update to my comment:
I can't seem to get to settings in the app. I tried doing what I used to do in the previous version, hit the button at the top that says nav inactive. When I did this, it brought up my favorites again, and gave me the options to see live stations, create a station, etc. I couldn't find settings. VoiceOver physically won't read some things at the bottom of the page, so I'm not sure what they are.
Overall, so far, I think this update takes a major step back in terms of accessibility, compared to the previous version(s). The app had been pretty accessible for months now, and then they sort of break it. I say 'sort of' because, as far as listening to stations goes, it still works fine. I just can't seem to use most of the extra features that I could use before.
I'm somewhat disappointed.

I haven't update this app since sometime in May, because I read that version 5.0 introduced some issues with accessibility. I'm just wondering if the more recent updates have addressed any of these problems.

I'm using ihradio on an ipad and after searching for a station, it won't let me play it. It says thename and then name matches or call letters match but is not clickable. I can't find any way around this.

By tunmi13 on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 - 22:22

The app is now fully accessible with VoiceOver, and all buttons are clearly labeled. The accessibility ratings need to be updated.
