Transfering Downcast Content

I'm about to transfer from an iPod Touch 4th Gen to a 5th Gen, and would appreciate help with one aspect of this change. I'd like to be sure that all my existing Downcast podcast content is backed up to iTunes to make sure it all then appears on the 5. Could someone more adept in these matters please tell me what I should have set or selected within Downcast , iCloud or iTunes to make sure this transfer is a smooth and happy one! BTW, I'm not an iCloud user either, perhaps this is the way I should be going? Any and all advice gratefully received.

Is it just your subscriptions that you want to transfer or do you have saved podcast episodes too?

I would export them to folders, copy them to my computer, via the iTunes share feature, then import all of them back in to down cast via the import feature. That's the long rout but that's the only way ic an think of this early in the morning.

You can also back them up to iCloud too. You can go to settings iCloud storage and backup then choose backup now.

that works, but if you have more then 5 gigs of eps or you run out of space I would not do this. In my case I have over 2 so be very careful when doing this.

Take care.

Ok you have a few options here. 1. When you set up your new iPod 5th gen, you can restore apps and settings from a backup of your existing iPod 4th gen. This essentially clones the existing iPod with all of it's apps and settings. Downcast will re-build as you have it now. However by default this won't include the actual media files for podcast episodes you have downloaded. If you want these, before you sync and backup the old iPod for the last time, open Downcast and go to the More tab. Select Settings and then scroll down to the bottom and switch on Media BackUp. This will include Downcast media files in the backup of the device. 2. However, if like me, you prefer to select "Set Up As New Device" when you get a new iOS device, and have a fresh install rather than restoring from a backup of the old one, then a better option may be to go to the More tab in Downcast on the old iPod, then select Tools and select Export Feeds to OPML. This allows you to email yourself a copy of the file containing the information about your feeds. Now download or sync the Downcast app to your new iPod. Open the email on the new iPod and tap and hold on the attachment. There will be an option to open it in Downcast. This will open Downcast and import your feeds. It works very well but be aware, it only imports the list of feeds. It does not rebuild which episodes of each podcast you have downloaded, unplayed, played, marked for streaming etc. It's just the list of feeds. 3. The other option is iCloud. First in Downcast on the old iPod, go to the More tab and then select iCloud Sync. You will see separate switches for Settings, Episodes, Podcasts and Playlists. Switch the ones on that you want. Then go to the new iPod and switch on the same things. This should do the trick. If you have a lot of feeds and files this might take some time so be patient. If you go for option 1 or 3, it's never a bad idea to email yourself the OPML and having it as a backup anyway. Hope that helps.
Yes, I've got downloaded podcasts that I need to transfer as well as the subscription list. They would indeed come in at over 5GB, so I take it that rules out iCloud then? Naive old me thought this would be a simple and straight-forward process!

A big thank you to everyone who took time to pass on thoughts and advice, thanks in particular to Dave82, if I can't get it sorted from here ... well guess I should give up trying!

Hello, as I stated try the export function. You can export m9lrtiple podcasts and the will export to a folder titled of the podcast name. You can then import them via iTunes share to yrou new iPod and then import them to their appropriate podcasts using the import function of down cast.

Good luck.
