Hi all,
So for those totally new to the Ally Solos glasses, I've now got them working, so here's some observations.
I couldn't seem to charge them at first. There are two ways of charging, connecting the magnetic USB cable provided in the box to the bottom of the left arm, or disconnecting each arm and charging them separately through USBC. I tried both of these methods. When connecting the magnetic charger, there isn't a beep sound to indicate the device is charging. You just have to wait. The power button is the round dot on the right arm. Provided both arms are locked in place correctly, as soon as you touch the power button, you'll hear a beep which means they're working. If the arms aren't quite locked into place, you won't hear any indication from the power button at all, and it means they're not working. The problem was I hadn't quite locked one of the arms into place. When you first open the glasses, one of the arms is disconnected from the glasses, and you have to reconnect it. That's what I hadn't done properly originally. There must have been a very slight gap between the arm and the frame. So after I tried charging both stems separately, and reconnected them, the power button beeped as soon as I touched it. So, if the power button doesn't beep as soon as you touch it, it means the stems aren't connected properly. Hope that helps newbies like myself. In short, I've got them working. I can talk to them, take a picture and get things described.

Hi,
I found this video. It is relatively blind friendly, and explains how to charge and power up your smart glasses. Enjoy.

re Brian great video
Hi Brian,
Yep, that video is great, and there's another one done by the same lady telling you about the dot for the power button. These videos eventually put me on the right track, so thanks for those.
Ally soul glasses touchpad for music?
Hi, it is not a typo on the subject. Soul is there on purpose as I talk about music.
Ally Glasses setup went smooth on my iPhone. Then, yes, I got stuck on the usage when the tutorial worked regularly but touch pad did not respond as requested.
Then I discovered that Ally works only if in foreground with phone unlocked. Is it a youth defect, is it a characteristic, I have no idea.
Now let's come to music:
In few words, it skips tracks back and forth with double and triple tap, but single tap for play-pause seems not to work for me.
Someone managed to figure it out? I have sensitivity set to 31, but I could increase, or decrease. That's very subjective, but I am really stuck now.
@Tara
Happy to help. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from your purchase. π
@Elena Brescacin
Maybe turn up the sensitivity a little more for the touchpad? Also, you may want to consider exploring the application on your device, and see if there are any settings for adjusting the touch panel controls.
HTH.
regarding touch controls
I had the same issue of the touch controls working fine for the tutorial, and then not working when I tried using the glasses for real. But I reconnected the glasses and things started working fine. Can't help about music though.
Thank you Tara!
Hi Tara.
I had contacted Ally support on Monday and they still hadn't resolved this issue. Your post, however, was very helpful in that it encouraged me to keep trying. And.... Success! The good news is that they work with my hearing aids at least, and braille is a bit clunky, but it's there. Thanks again.
disconnected but it still persists
So, I have disconnected my Ally solos glasses, then re-connected.
Same issues as before, with music as well. Sensitivity increased -lower number-.
Music and glasses: found the trick
The trick for music management is that Ally must be closed from the app switcher, in order for the glasses to control the touch pad as music player. Otherwise it will control ally.
Re: Music and glasses: found the trick
so it sounds like disabling the app makes the glasses work more like a Bluetooth headset. Hopefully a future update will fix that.
only tip i have is ....
send them back they sound like utter rubbish and shouldn't have come to market; they are badly presented in the box by the sound of it, delays for requests are rediculous just money-grabbing business as per usual what a waste of r and d time.
headset vs. assistant
Hello, yes, true, they "talk" to Ally when Ally is on, this is -should be- normal, I think.
If there is no app running, they are a bluetooth headset - would I like them to work as a wearable camera as well? Yes. I would. So that if you are wearing them, you can call a Be My Eyes volunteer through Siri and use their camera as a wearable camera. Would I like them to manage external service? Yes. I also heard about RayBan Meta who does that, but I'm honestly not trusting Meta because of their new policy - no moderation, no fact checking, etc.
True, it's not mandatory to join Facebook while having their glasses, but why should I give money to someone who promote unsafe spaces? I won't.
Need help please
I got my Ally glasses on Monday and have some huge problems. First the speakers sound like treble ear-hurting iPhone -30 speakers, the microphone is so poor that I need to shout to them and the battery only lasts two hours although they promise 15. What next?
Re: Need help please
Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have a faulty pair of smart glasses. My only advice would be to send them back.
Glasses not turning off completely
I think I found out why my battery drains even when the glasses are off. Today I wanted to connect my new Braille display via bluetooth to my windows machine, and as soon as I opened the bluetooth setting something like solos vision showed up even the glasses were turned off. I thought these things are somewhere in my environment, but everywhere I have my turned off glasses this shows up. Could anyone please try this for me if the glasses show up in the Add device section of windows bluetooth setting when turned off?
All things pointed to these being a massive mess
Everything I can tell about these glasses suggests that itβs an absolute mess. I hope people arenβt keeping it. It was a half baked measured to begin with. Definitely not worth any of the money that people are spending.
Keeping Ally glasses cause I'd like to think things will improve
Today, I was out with my sister and her family. The Ally glasses were able to read the drinks menu at the restaurant we were at. I think that with walkee Talkee mode disabled, the glasses are useable, at least for trying to read mail and things like that. I still feel as though my biggest problem, both with the Ally glasses and also Metas, is that I simply don't know where to look so that the camera on the glasses is able to see what I need it to see.
I agree thatperhaps these glasses aren't quite what I hoped they would be, but it's early days, and I know that if I were to return them, I'd end up regretting it, and there's no way I'd ever pay more than the $399 I already spent.
So now, I've got the Ally Glasses, which I plan to focus on using to read stuff, and a pair of 2nd gen Meta Ray-ban skylers that I'll probably use for most other visual tasks. Maybe someday, both will be equally useful, but for now, I perceive them each as meeting different visual needs.
