Other Comments

This is the utility I have been waiting for to combine extracted text with image descriptions. It inserts the images for each page at the end of the text.
TO process an PDF file greater than 10 pages, you must subscribe to the ScribeME Max plan which is $19.99 a month or $200 a year. When using the share sheet, the file will be sent to the source you choose as a Word document.
I've not tested Live Assist yet as a braille user, but please see the comments for this below from other users.

I tried the app and I have to admit, it’s impressive. I have been looking for something to make documents accessible for a long time

The latest update adds the ability to ask questions about the uploaded documents. I noticed it is no longer possible to turn the sound off when scanning a file, I hope they will bring that back as I would strongly prefer the ability to turn it off.

In the live assist feature when I try to connect to it, it reads out what it sees but then when I try to ask it a question about what it sees nothing is spoken back to me, so I’m wondering if the microphone is not working in this app

I know mmost people aren't interested, but for those who are, I regret to inform you that the Live Assist function is not accessible for braille users. I also tried Live Captions without any joy. It's my hope that there will be consideration given to separating the subscriptions of Live Assist and the file conversion for text, as $20 a month is too hefty for me to justify when I'm not able to use half of the features. All that said, I'm very happy that people are having success with the app and that development continues for audio users.

Does anyone know what happened to this app? It's no longer available in the App Store for download.

The developer has contacted Apple to try and understand why they removed the app. Hopefully, they will be able to fix the situation.

Hey all I had just saw this update from the developer on Facebook. I copied and pasted it from the developers post:

Mark Morad:

I want to share some updates regarding ScribeMe’s removal from the App Store.

After losing my eyesight, I experienced firsthand the struggles that blind and visually impaired people go through every day. That is what inspired me to create ScribeMe to help people study, access visual information, and live more independently.

Over the years, I also spent thousands of hours building and improving ScribeMe to create something that could genuinely make a difference in people’s lives. We worked hard not only to build an app, but to raise the bar for accessibility and innovation.

ScribeMe became the first app in the world to make PowerPoint presentations and PDFs fully accessible by describing visual content such as images, charts, and graphs for blind and visually impaired users. We were also the first to launch Live Assist ,a live AI feature that continuously describes a user’s surroundings in real time as the scene changes, helping people navigate and understand the world around them more independently.

Recently, my Apple Developer account was terminated without any warnings or further notice, which resulted in ScribeMe being removed from the App Store.

This came as a huge shock to us because we always worked hard to follow all guidelines and build something that truly helps people. ScribeMe was never just an app, it was built from personal experience, dedication, and a real need for accessibility.

We truly believe this may have been a mistake, especially since many app removals are handled automatically. We are still trying to understand what happened and hoping the situation can be reviewed properly.

To everyone who supported ScribeMe, used it, shared feedback, or relied on it in daily life, thank you.

Your support means more than you know, and we will continue doing our best to fight for accessibility and independent access to information for blind and visually impaired people.

If you would like to support us, we made a post on the Apple Developer Forum and will leave the link below. It would mean a lot if you could share how ScribeMe has helped you or how you use it in your daily life by leaving a comment or creating a post there.

You can also help by sharing this post on your feed so more people can see what happened and support accessibility technology that truly makes a difference. Our hope is that this helps show how important ScribeMe is to its users and how many people rely on it every day.

Not showing here. Curious minds would like to know what their take was.

Oh, well. I had considered trying it and couldn't find it either; glad it wasn't just me. Jonathan Mosen covered it on Access On very recently, though.
