If you're a musician who likes to learn new songs and techniques by listening to the same piece of music over and over but wish that the music could be played a little slower, then you'll enjoy Amazing Slow Downer.

You can repeat any section of the music at full speed, slow it down or even speed it up by changing the speed between 25% (1/4 of original speed) and 200% (double speed) without changing the pitch!

Change the tuning or musical key? No problem, Amazing Slow Downer handles that as well.

Setup seamless loops by touching the "Set" buttons during playback.

Amazing Slow Downer is the ideal tool for any musician, transcriber or dancer wanting to improve their skills.

Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editorial Team Note: Based on Comments left below the Accessibility of this app has changed. If you feel that this does not correctly reflect of your experience. Please leave a Comment below so that we can correctly make those changes. --- Appears to be very accessible. To slow down or speed up the audio it is necessary to double-tap and hold the slider and then slide your finger to the left or right respectively. I have also successfully created and saved loops but have not yet tried the pitch change feature. The free version of this app plays only the first quarter of the audio file but it is a good way to get a feel for how it works. It works well for my needs, namely slowing down a song and looping a selected section. It is expensive at $15.00 but is worth it in my opinion, as I have tried similar apps with little or no success.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

With these issues, one wonders if just using the speedup audio book player wuldn't be better. Especially if they're charging such a high price.
Hi, The accessibility issues mentioned that the music browser is not accessible. I'm not the only one who has noticed, but apps that require you to choose a song, such as IamT-pain, also do this. This is an apple issue, and I keep forgetting to write to them to fix it. I also notice this is the case in make tones, (an app I'm going to submit soon), where you have to search with in the songs part, and hope for the best when you click on a song.
This app, or at least the free Lite version of it, used to be accessible. There was a post to viphone list back in August 2009 recommending the app. The second poster is correct that the issues with the music browser are not a developer issue. I only tried out the Lite version, quite a while ago, but it was perfectly usable up to a year ago. The Lite version lets you try out the app, but will only let you play the first quarter if your selected track. And in answer to the first commenter, this app gives you a level of playback control far beyond speedup audio player, if you're a musician.

This app was not the only one where VoiceOver couldn't read song titles in the music browser: this was caused by a bug with VoiceOver. I am glad to report the iOS 5.1 update has corrected this issue.
I only found this app this year but as far as accessibility goes, I have no problem. I've used it a lot with both time and pitch changes as well as the loop feature. When I had to learn 15 songs in a week and a half for an out of the blue gig it was invaluable. When moving within the timeline or adjusting pitch/time etc, after double tapping and holding until the tritone, moving up the screen before moving left or right decreases the incrimental movement so you can fine tune. You can change pitch by fractions of a semitone for example. Great for putting a song that's slightly off concert pitch into correct pitch to save having to retune to the song. The app lets you save multiple loops for each song and a lot more. Setting the songs to mono helps greatly when using pitch and or time change as far as quality goes. The app is high priced and I confess I got it when it was $5 but I love it so much I payed full price to gift it to my daughter who's a singer. Worth every last cent in my opinion.
Once you get the speed and pitch of your file set where you want it, How do you get your changed copy of the file out of the app? I looked everywhere on all the screens and even in settings and did not see any dropbox or send by email options. The only dropbox option I saw was for getting files in, not out?

Apps that let you change playback speed without altering pitch are generally designed to let you listen to files at different tempos and/or pitches -- they're not meant to let you make editiing changes or re-write files. I'm not aware of any tempo changing iOS app, regardless of accessibility status, that will currently let you rewrite the altered files for access outside the app, apart from Audiostretch, And that feature was only added to Audiostretch earlier this month. You might find that feature in a general audio editing app that can also adjust speed and pitch.

My entire library of music, practice tracks etc. is in FLAC. Will Amazing SlowDowner handle flac files?

By synthesizer101 on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 - 18:16

The app doesn't support flac at this time, but as a user, I can say that it is updated frequently. I will see if I can send feedback to ask for the feature. As of now, the app will not do that.

Subject says it all. For a guy that transcribes as much as I do, this app is a life saver when I'm on the go. The dropbox support is excellent, and it supports 2-finger magic tap for play/pause functionality.

I tried the Mac version, and i like it so much,
Need to ask about 3 things here and hope they are accessible:
- adjusting the loop points , and changing them, is it accessible and easy?
- moving the loop points, is it accessible? i mean, if i have a loop 10 seconds long, on mac i press a shortcut and it moves it to start from second 11 to second 20, is it available and accessible on ios?
- decreasing speed and changing pitch, is accessible?

I am using an iPhone 14 pro with IOS 16.1. I downloaded the latest version of ASD free version 6.7.7

I have found the app mostly accessible with voiceover except for the important Items listed below. I have exchanged several emails with the developers. Below find my summary letter I sent this morning

--- start here
I appreciate you working with me to get asd working for me.

Here is what I am running into:

I can get the pitch slider to work some of the times. I am moving the semitones up and down a small percentage with each slide (.25 or .48 of a semitone) For those ho want the granularity of pitch that may be fine. I am looking to move from g to a or some other full semitone for each slide

For the rate no matter how many times I double tap; hear the tone; and slide my finger, the rate does not change.

It would be wonderful if the pitch could change one semitone at a time in addition to the decimal movement.

As far as sliders and change of pitch or tone it would be great if the pitch and tone changes worked like changing the page number of the iPhone screens. At the bottom of the screen there is a page number. I swipe my finger over to the page number; I hear "page x of x adjustable"; voiceover says "double tap to open spotlight swipe up or down to adjust the value". All I need to do at this point is to swipe up or down to change the page number. Once the page number changes, voiceover automatically announces the new value.

I play the banjo. On my right hand I have 2 finger picks and one thumb pick. Just reaching over to the phone screen and swiping up or down is a lot easier than double tapping ...etc.

Also when I finally get the pitch to change, voiceover does not announce the new value. I need to swipe down to the pitch value to hear what I have done. For the page number example, voiceover automatically reads the new page value. One finger one swipe and I am there. Much more friendly. Also as I stated above I cannot get the rate change to work

While I am on my comments. For the loop start and end, I can easily set the beginning and end loop points. The only problem is that I need to swipe several times to get to the end point button after setting the start point. There is a bunch of controls like "loop is on", "manage loops", "half loop", "double loop", "slide loop backwards", "slide loop forward", and then I get to set loop end. It would be a lot easier to have the set loop start and stop next to each other. I am sure all the other controls are useful, but each time I need to set start and stop, I need to swipe a number of times to get to each set control.

--- end here
