What's New in Version 1.5

Fleksy gets updated for the first time in 2013!

- Fleksy now speaks Spanish! Head over to iPhone Settings, then Fleksy to switch languages. Needs app restart to take effect.

- Greatly improved accuracy on iPhone 5 and iPad mini. Ever typed “How ate you?”, we all have! No more (smile). Will be on all devices in next update.

- Reorganized Fleksy’s Settings layout in the Settings application.

- Fixed the “Reply link and signature jargon” bugs. Features work as they should on all devices again.

I tried the free version when only English was available, and I just bought it because now Supports Spanish. But it was not that expensive, it only cost me 4,50 euro, is it a special offer or a new final price?

I just went to install the latest update, and the app store didn't prompt me it was there. I had to manually search for the app, then I was given the install option, very strange.

I too have experienced this with other apps from time to time. I think it just depends on when the content is refreshed on your device. What I've done (with good success) is just close the app store in app switcher, then reopen it. That has worked for me the last couple times I've tried it.

I just downloaded Fleksy today. You can't beat the price at this point. Looks like it's got some pretty good potential, but how do you get text you type into other applications, like texts, Facebook comments, etc.? Once I figure that out, I might be one of the many who are calling this the coolest thing since...well, who knows what?

Certainly not calling it the coolest thing since they effectively robbed the visually impaired by first, over pricing it and second, reducing it to free. I'm all for lowering prices for promotions and things like that, but to cut and run because they think they will be in bed with Apple is underhand and really shady. I'm never buying from this developer again.

Hi guys! I got the update today! I'm so happy with the time the app takes to load, only 3 seconds, and the fact that its free is just one more reason for everybody to enjoy the future of typing on touch screen devices, I already sent the email to apple, using fleksy in other apps and in all languages would surely be fantastic, I would sell my bt keyboards. And for the last commenter that said that the developers robbed you, no, they didn't. You aren't forced to buy anything and if you're an old apple user you will know that these promotions are quite frequent, one good case I can remember is with the djay app I got last year for 1.99, the normal price is 19.99! So what? When things are expensive people complain sooooo much, when they are for free they complain as we'll because you think it was money lost, I'm certain it helped a lot the fleksy team and if they asked 14.99 at first maybe they really needed some money to continue developing. Ok guys I'm really sorry to say all this sh** but I thought it was really unfair. I hope everyone sends the email and help this team of developers that worked hard to bring fleksy to where it is now.

There's two bugs i've noticed in the latest version. One is that it still sometimes won't read the character you're finger is sliding over when you try to type a word manually. It does this very frequently I find. The second is that when I want to send a text message, I tap on the message button in the main menu but nothing happens, I have to tap on it again to bring up the new message dialog. I am finding the two finger sliding gesture to bring up the main menu a bit awkward to get used to as sometimes I am not sure if I've typed something by accident as the keyboard still makes a clicking sound as you move your fingers up. I preferred the old gesture.

I held off on getting fleksy because I felt that buying an app where I had to do a lot of screwing around just to get something written down wasn't my thing. Now that it is free, I snagged it. I still won't use it as extensively as I do dictation, but it is another resource to use. I don't feel like Fleksy was a rip-off or I was robbed if I bought it. I chose to not buy it. Simple as that! Same goes for BrailleTouch. I choose not to buy it, even though I know Braille. I have other desires on where to put my money where apps are concerned. I did work with Fleksy, and it is very impressive to say the least! yes, I did email Apple from within the app. Hopefully they will implement Fleksy as an additional keyboard. of course, I got a canned response from Apple, but if enough people do this, it can go from a distant dream to reality. I did look at apps on the app store. Hell, I'm an app junkie! Fleksy was #2 under productivity's free category section. I think that will send a message as well.

Like Neo, I'm encountering the bug where you just get a click but no letter read out during manual entry. Thought I'd note it here to see how wide spread the problem is or whether it's user error of some kind. Also, one thought on the new gestures is that they break my ability to use Fleksy one handed. I often find myself with the iPhone cradled in whichever hand is free and type using the thumb of that same hand. Can't do that anymore, which is a shame. Other than those two little gripes, the new version is running great here. The increase of responsiveness is killer!

Hey guys, Thank you for the feedback on the latest and all versions of Fleksy. It helps us. We are always looking into feedback for the new gestures, so that we can tweak and make them better. So, know that we value all feedback and will put it to good use. You mention an issue with manual entry and VO not speaking back letters. I suggest a tip that may help: Tap and hold on the screen and wait for VO to speak before you start sliding your finger. This way Fleksy won't confuse a long press with a tap or a swipe. Bill, that's exactly how I approach entering letters manually. Sometimes though, I just get a click as my finger touches the screen, and no matter how long I hold for, VO won't announce the character. Sliding at that point doesn't do anything either. Happens often enough here that I can rarely enter a word manually in one try, but I think it's only been this way for the last 2 versions. I'm running an iPhone 5, stock iOS 6.1.1 at the moment if that helps at all.

Firstly, James Jolley's complaint is complete nonsense. The money I spent went to good use, so the developers are welcome to it. Keep up the good work. However, I am still having one or two problems. I'm also having the problem with manual typing, though maybe not as frequently as described above. Sorry guys but I'm not a fan of the new gestures at all. I keep accidentally typing a letter or two when I try to do the two finger gestures, and even when I've done it right, the keyboard clicks so I think I've typed something. Maybe I'll get the hang of it, I'm not sure. I also prefer to type with just one thumb which makes two finger gestures awkward too. I'm guessing / hoping though that the old touch and hold gesture has been earmarked for entering some sort of editing mode in the future; my number one request.

In short, I want to inform Apple about using Fleksy as another keyboard into there IOS system but the fact of the matter is that I don't use email on my phone. I've got a computer for that sort of thing but I still would like to let Apple know. May I ask the team or for anyone else who has submited there interest in Fleksy being part of the IOS expirence. two things. 1. What does the sample email message say? 2. Does it get sent to accessibility@apple.com If it does, then a copy and paste of the sample message would be greatly appreshated if it was pasted here and then I could go on my merry way to copying and pasting it to the above email address. If this not the case, then what happens differently.

Hey Daniel. You can write a message in your own words, saying how you use Fleksy or why you would want it to be part of your phone. Yes, emails go to accessibility@apple.com and we've heard they do read and respond to them.

Hi guys, With the help of many users, we did some early research. Try the following: Wait between taps. Tap and hold on the first letter. VO will speak and then find your letter. Release and before you touch down again, wait for a second. Repeat the process for the rest of the letters and swipe right. If at any point VO stops reading back, swipe left. If the whole word is deleted, it means that a normal tap was registered, not a tap an hold. Let me know if this works for you guys. Thanks for all the help! Regards, Bill

I already mentioned this to the Fleksy team on Twitter. And by the looks of it, I am not the only one here who feels this way; I really do not like the new gestures at all. To me, they have just made things inconvenient. Prior to this, I was able to utilize the app and its entire functionality with one hand. Now, I have to use two hands; one to hold the phone in, the other to do the two finger upward swipe for bringing up the menu (which is one of the most important actions for using the app). This is extremely inconvenient for me since, one, I would rather use the app with one hand, and two, I just can’t perform that gesture properly. Rather than bringing up the menu, I keep entering other random characters, and then I have to go back, erase them, and then try again. It is such a nuisance and is just not working out well at all. Quite honestly, this is making using the app really frustrating. The same applies for the gesture to add a new line. The new gesture (two-finger downward swipe) is also one that I really do not like. Again, with this gesture too, I have pretty much the same sort of issues as I explained above for the new gesture to bring up the menu. Now obviously, there is at least a work around to add a new line and avoid using the gesture. One can locate the new line key towards the bottom right of the screen and can add a line manually. There is however, no work around for bringing up the menu, and hence, it is the new gesture for the menu that I am really getting frustrated with. I am not suggesting that the new gestures are taken away entirely, because I understand that maybe other users may find them to be better than the older gestures, and the new ones may be working out well for them. However, I really think that the older gestures, especially the one for bringing up the menu, should not have been taken away entirely. It is just a matter of convenience. If the Fleksy team would have retained the old gestures, and simply added the new ones, it would have been better. That way, the users would at least have both types of gestures to play with, and use the ones that work best for them. Either that, or another suggestion would be that an extra option could be provided in the application’s settings, where the user can choose the gesture that he/she prefers to use. Also, I too am encountering issues while typing manually (one character at a time). VoiceOver does not say the character when you touch and hold. I only hear a click, and even if I keep holding, VoiceOver still doesn’t say anything. It is really annoying and its happening very often in this new update.

I love the new gestures! In particular, the swipe up to get the menu is so much easier than the tap and hold or whatever it was before. I could never get that to work whereas this one works for me everytime. I always used to put extra letters in which I had to delete and that was extremely annoying because there were many of them. Now, I may get extra letters but only a couple, and so that is easy to delete. I don't understand why people think this is so much of an issue! But then they like the other way and I didn't. Perhaps that last person's suggestion of making it a decision within the settings as to which Gesture might be a good one though. I also love how much quicker it loads now! Good job Fleksy!

I don't have a problem with either gesture, although I also prefer the tap and hold one from previously. Anyway, I do have one suggestion, actually two but quite related. Could the language choice be put into the fleksy menu? I'm trilingual English/Spanish/Chinese, and thus use both languages frequently. If you could put in a quick switch, that would be convenient. Also, the menu buttons and all text should match the input language. When you type in Spanish with the Spanish tts reading, the menu text makes no sence until you switch back to the English voice. It's not a huge dealbreaker, but it would be nice.

I am having the same problem as Scottsdale. Even if I hold my finger on the screen as suggested earlier, to enter a letter manually, VO won't still speak. It doesn't do it everytime but it does it very often. Enough to be annoying and v difficult to input words manually.

Like some has already said I think there should be a setting in Fleksy where one can turn the old gesture or the new gesture on. Or even have them both. In other words it all comes down what the user like. Personally in the begining, I could never get the hang of the old gesture but as of late just they updated Fleksy with the new one I have just been getting the hang of it. I still like the new one though. Like I said though I think it should all come down to what the person wants to use.

Hey Bill, Taken your advice about waiting a while between each letter when entering characters manually. It helps a lot, and I'm seeing the behaviour much less often than 2 days ago, so thanks for the tip man. Just wanted to confirm whether you guys are still considering this to be a bug of sorts? The technique above feels more like a temporary workaround than an actual solution, given that the point of Fleksy is a speed increase. Cheers Scottsdale

Hi, As mentioned by others, the only problem with the swipe up with two fingers is that, sometimes it will register a character together with the swipe. Just imagine if you are typing a long text and you have to wait till it read the whole text to know if extra character is indeed input, and it is a little annoying. I have had Fleksy since they first dropped the price to $5, I figured it would be worth trying out for that price, only to find out that included the new trial version. I liked it, but it took a bit to load, and it didn't always catch what I was trying to type. However, this latest build since they have made it free, oh my! It loads so fast and smoothly, and the predictability is awesome. I like the built in menu options and use these regularly to text and post to Facebook with Fleksy. I have submitted my email requesting this be integrated as a keyboard in the iOS and hope the Apple folks choose to do this soon. I've already found myself trying to type like I'm in Fleksy when I need to type in another app. I'm very hooked on the ease and usability of Fleksy. And, if you have any problems, the folks at Fleksy are very prompt and helpful in getting back with you. What's not to like about this? Great product and great support.

I've encountered a bug after one of Fleksy's recent updates and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happens a lot and it's pretty annoying. Whenever I go to type a text message and send it, Fleksy should return me back to the main screen where I can enter a new message. However, there are many times where it doesn't and instead it just sort of locks up on me. I'll drag my finger around the screen and it's as if there's nothing there. It just dings at me. I'm forced to shut down the application and restart. Sometimes this will fix the problem, but sadly, sometimes it doesn't and I'll have to restart the app again. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm using an iPhone 4 with the latest iOS 5 build. I was hoping one of these more recent Fleksy updates would fix the problem but that hasn't happened. I emailed tech support and there suggestion was to upgrade to iOS 6. Apparently this is an iOS 5 issue so I was curious if anyone else has had this problem. I'm not really interested in updating to iOS 6 with my iPhone 4. I'm just not willing to deal with the probable slowdown I'd experience, iOS 6 bugs,and dealing with the hassle of re-jailbreaking my phone. Maybe if I had a 4S I'd go ahead and do that. Thanks.

Hi Reebok! We are working on resolving the iOS 5 bug. It is not trivial, though, as iOS 5 devices are really hard to find and the issue doesn't appear on all of them. Also, jailbreaking adds unpredicted parameters to the equation, parameters we can't anticipate, but also choose not to. The fastest solution would be for you to upgrade to iOS 6.1.2. It is stable and fast and handles VO much better than iOS 5 did. Also, runs fine on our iPhone 4 devices. Let us know if we can be of assistance any time. Regards, Bill

Again, Fleksy froze and stopped responding, right in the middle of writing a long text that took me 20 minutes to write. Right before typing the last period, it just stopped working... Had no other option than to hit the home key, and then reopen it from app switcher. But when I had it open again, nothing of the text I had written was still there. So I started all over to write it again, and same thing happened, but this time only after 4 - 5 minutes... This have also happened several times before... It's a pity, because I really love the app, but now I'm at the point where I can't gamble on it working when writing more than 2 or 3 sentences. Would just be a waste of time to put in 10 - 15 minutes to write something, just to have the app freezing on me and deleting all of my written text... Hope this will be resolved in a future update... Frustrated, but still happy, Cliff

personally, i don't see the point of this app at all. it was very slow when i used it, you have to copy paist the text anyway, and i'm not going to pay that much for an app when i can just type with voice over, like i always have done. This is just my opinion and i can see how it may be helpful if your just starting out with voice over, but... for me, it's pointless.

Hi, a new version of this app has come out, however I would say although the developers feel happy according to the below what's new message, we certainly shouldn't feel happy. This is because on this latest update the setting to lock fleksy in a particular orientation seems to be completely broken, it doesn't matter what you have it set to the app remains in portrait and doesn't respect your setting. What I find astounding with this update is that this was a bug also present in the last beta released on April 22nd, and yet fleksy have deliberately released a buggy version, with no warning to there users. They know of the problem as I reported it to them and got a response along with a fiddly work around for it. So, I would suggest avoid this update if the orientation setting is important to you. What's New in Version 1.7 I feel happy today, must be another Fleksy update! Here's what's new: - In-App Settings! Pull up the menu and select Settings to customize Fleksy without ever leaving the app. - Lots of work on accuracy. Expect less swipe downs. - Improved default dictionary - Lots of bug fixes. - Increased responsiveness. Can you tell by how much? - and finally, back by popular demand: The Tap and hold to invoke the menu gesture! You can use both old and new gesture according to your preference! Enjoy and don't forget to press that Feedback button and tell us what you want Fleksy to do next! As always, Thank you! - the Fleksy team The fix for the issue has to be done every time you start fleksy and the info how to do it is taken directly from there email to me. Start fleksy. It will be in portrait regardless of your orientation lock preference setting. Invoke the menu and select Settings and then Done. Fleksy will now switch to landscape and stay like that until it restarts. We will fix this for the next beta.

To clarify, the issue appears only on devices locked in portrait. The Fleksy orientation lock will respect your setting if your device is not orientation locked. Considering the benefits of this update, including in-app settings, the much requested return of the tap and hold to invoke the menu gesture, as well as dramatically increased accuracy and overall stability, we felt the update was worth releasing sooner. I have to say that as always, Fleksy is apart from Voiceover, the best item on my iPhone. Great and easy to use as always, and I have also been lucky and not had any problems as mentioned above. I am confident though that the developers will resolve the issues, they do keep us up-to-date. Thanks again for a great app. Mike

Hi to the Fleksy team and everyone else. I just had an idea and I relise that it may sound susjective and will depend on the users individual preference. I therefore would suggest that it be a toggle where one can turn it off and on depending on there desire. The idea which I don't know how it would be implemented or at all even possible to do is, in its basic form is to have a feature where after one has finished typing and goes out of the app have the text already typed copyed to the clipboard. An example may run something like this. Say you want to comment on a Facebook status. Well instead of bringing up the menu to copy the text to the clipboard. Well my fantasy idea if you like is once you have hit the home button, is for that text to be automatically added to the clipboard so that all that one needs do then is paste it where ever they need it to go. in this case replying to a comment on a status on Facebook. You go to the comment in question and use the standard rutor gesture to find edit and paste it and your done. The idea behind this was that it excludes the menu gesture and finding the copy and paste button. Of course I have no problems with the way we do it now and am truely grateful for the developers who have made it this way. I was just simply thinking it saves the user another step or two to copy the text and more importantly time. So that in theory the user can write there text come out of the app with the home button paste it where ever they like and be on there merry way. I would like to know what everyone thinks Users and the Fleksy team alike about this idea. All the best. Daniel

Thanks for the suggestion Daniel! It is an interesting one! A point to consider would be that since the clipboard can only keep the most recent copied item, anything you had previously stored would be automatically overwritten as soon as you open Fleksy. However, offering this feature as a toggle option would allow users to expect and control this behavior. We will be considering this idea extensively. Regards, Bill

I've been using fleksy for a while now. Its on the dock of my home screen on my iPod, right next to my music icon I think. I hope the feature to copy the text to the clipboard when the home button is pressed does get added. It'd save some time.

Hey guys, I love Fleksy, it is my main way of typing on the iPhone. I never used to bother with the favourites function because I had a few people I wanted to add and found it a bit of messing about either having to remember all their numbers to set it up or copying and pasting indevidually. Now they have been linked to contacts I thought I'd give it a quick try and have experienced a bit of a problem. When I click on a contact's phone number or email address to add to the favourites, fleksy just quits then returns me to the home screen. I go back into fleksy and it hasn't saved the changes either.Has anyone else had this problem yet?

Thanks Callum, We are aware of the issue and have an update on the way to fix. In the meantime, this might work for you: Try adding contacts in Favorites one at a time. Add a Favorite, exit to Fleksy and return to Set Up Favorites for the second one. I know its a hassle, but a fix is on the way that prevents this issue from ever appearing, Thanks for updating and your very kind words!! Bill

Hi all, I like the way the app is now linked to contacts, but one thing I have noticed which is annoying, is lets say you have several phone numbers for a contact with custom labels it would be nice if these could either be shown or you could enter some text to be shown with each number. As lets say you have a contact with a personal and a work mobile there are obviously cases for using both numbers, at the moment fleksy just displays the name followed by a mobile number which is quite useless for telling numbers apart. I have written to the developers pointing this out, so with any luk they will act on this feedback.
