I am aware that Samsung televisions are completely accessible. In fact, I have one of these. However, my parents are considering purchasing an LG television because of the good price. Could you please let me know what type of accessibility experience I might expect. Thank you so much for any help.

Both of my TV's are LG, and they both came up talking after I powered them on. The first menu basically said that the screen reader was for blind or visually impaired people, and asked if I wanted it to continue talking or to stop. I clicked whatever button I needed to in order for it to keep talking, and all was good.

I'm thinking of going with an LG myself once I move out.

My cousin said the exact same thing as brooke, the tv came up talking and he turned it off because he didn't need it.

I have an LG G1 OLED 55 inch TV which has excellent accessibility. It’s a couple of years old now but I believe all the G and C series are equally accessible. They are truly incredible TV’s from what I understand with amazing picture quality. You might not want to go as far as the G series as they are designed to be incredibly thin and look pretty. From what I understand, the C series are just as good without the design cost. I know the C3 and G3 were released last year but don’t know if they’ve been updated yet this year.

I didn’t know they were actually that good. I’m so glad. Can someone please describe the remote control if they get a chance.

I’m just wondering if there is one of those, you hold down the volume button for Samsung, does LG have a similar shortcut to start and stop voice guidance easily. Thanks.

If there's a way to do this, I haven't found it.

Well, then, I’ll just turn it on, set up the television for my parents, and turn it back off. That should be easy enough. Just glad to know it turns on when you first started it.

The 2 options are.
1. Press and hold the microphone button on the remote and say turn audio guidance on. To turn off just say Turn audio guidance off.
2. Press and hold the mute button which is between the volume and channel buttons on the magic remote. This brings up the accessibility menu. The option the cursor lands on is audio guidance so just hit the ok button to turn on. Other options here include Audio description and invert colours.
I hope that helps. This really is a very accessible TV. The remote even has braille on it. I think so anyway. I don’t read braille but it feels like it. It is next to the power, channel and volume buttons. I have the G1.

Thanks for that!! My TV model doesn't have a mic button. But holding down the Mute button did work! I'm excited this is doable; I generally wouldn't have a reason to turn off speech on my TV's, but there are times I'd like to quickly toggle it on and then off on my parents' TV. Mainly when I'm there helping them with something.
