Hi everyone, hope you're doing well and staying safe :)
I'm currently using apps to listen to Internet radio like Triode and TuneIn.
However, I'm wondering if there's any newer more up-to-date or fresher apps that I should be aware for Internet radio, thanks for your help with this everyone and I can't wait to hear your recommendations :-)

Triode is the best. It is awesome and just works.

I would recommend iHeartRadio, if you want to sample variety for free, and don’t mind an occasional Radio ad. There are subscription options as well. 🙂

Have a look at the app called Radio Garden. It’s very accessible and has a fantastic list of stations from all over the world.

I recently discovered an app called Broadcasts and really like it. You simply add stations to your collection and can tap on one of them to start the station playing. You can add up to 5 stations to your collection for free, or remove that limit for a 1-off payment. I can't remember the price but it's not much at all.

Without wishing to self-promote, I did a demo of the app for the RNIB Tech Talk podcast recently. Would be happy to share the link if that would be allowed.

I’ve tried a bunch and in my opinion MyTuner Pro is the best by far. It has a one time purchase of $10 at the time I bought it. It syncs across devices and the search features are very superior than any other radio app I’ve used. Here is a link. It has a lot of features that I find very useful.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mytuner-radio-pro/id520511560

There is a free version but it has in app adds and no music EQ unless you pay the $10. I’m low vision and don’t use VO yet so can’t say anything about that. I haven’t found any of the internet radio apps to be perfect but MyTuner Pro comes closest. I have it on three devices and have built up a favorite list of add free stations of various genres. Give it a look.

Callum, I’d like to see you link to the podcast about the Broadcasts radio app. I did download it and though it isn’t up to the MyTuner Pro level it certainly has some value. I found two very good Blues radio stations on the app that have excellent music and no adds. I have a few radio apps to search out new music and when I find a song that is really good I search for the entire album on Music Unlimited where I have a subscription. Iii like Classical Music too and will search there some and see what shakes out. The one time price is reasonable at $10.

So put that link up to your podcast please.U

Thanks for the Radio garden recommendations everyone it's working pretty smoothly for me over here. Some radio stations on my tuner pro aren't connecting and I've no idea why. I like to listen to rinse FM in the UK, bizarrely enough some apps connect to it and some apps don't my tuna pro appears to be one of the apps that doesn't connect to it. Thank you for your help everyone

Trey, I was able to get Rinse Kool FM from London on MyTuner Pro and it was playing the same song as the online Rinse FM London and Rinse Kool FM was too on their website. Give it a try and see what you can find. Let me know. Radio Garden is 25 dollars per year over here. That is a good amount of quid.

One app which is fantastic to use is simple Radio. It actually connects nicely to non-apple devices. It has a lot of radio stations, and you can even search radio stations by artists.

I just gave Broadcasts a try, and...I'm loving it. I found a local radio station that I used to listen in my mom's car during my high school days.
I recently used Winamp but I found Broadcasts to be way, way more accessible and, most importantly, Broadcasts has the local radio station that I listened during my high school days whereas Winamp doesn't.
I also love the fact that I can listen to radios from practically any country in the world within Broadcasts, including countries like North Korea hahahaha.

I’ve been using Eter radio for some time now, well before Applevis discovered and posted about it. Got it for $5 and see it’s up to $9 now. I like it and have discovered a few excellent stations that I listen to often. Get it.

By Dennis Long on Thursday, February 13, 2025 - 13:19

I agree it is good. I also got it when it was $5. I do agree you should get it.

By Dennis Long on Thursday, February 13, 2025 - 13:19

at Nut see my message on eter you may like that one as well. The point is we have lots of good choices. They are highly accessible.

By Nut on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 00:19

I tried Eter but I don't really like it; there are no countries list it seems unlike with Broadcasts.
Also it doesn't seem to have radio stations from every country in the world too, unlike Broadcasts.

By Dennis Long on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 00:19

You don’t need the country. Just type what your looking for. It uses the same database as broadcasts.

In your opinion, which app has the best connection to the radios, allowing less delay? It is very useful for live soccer matches, for example.

By Tara on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 01:19

My favourite radio station apps are Speech Radio (but this one seems to be only available in the UK), online radio box, and broadcasts isn't bad, though I don't like the way they do the countries; there's a massive list of countries you can either search or browse through, as opposed to countries being grouped by continent which I prefer. But that really is a personal preference. What I like about Speech Radio and Broadcasts is that stations load so quickly! I don't know if that answers Diego's question above about delay. Stations through Online Radio Box take much longer to load up. I don't like radio station apps that don't have a way to browse by country. I like finding different stations from around the world, and the easiest way to do that is being able to use a radio station app to browse by country.

By Dennis Long on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 02:19

Note this is as of February 13th 2025.
1 broadcasts
2 eter.
Why is this?
It has to do with the way eter currently does Shazam. In my opinion there needs to be 3 options:
1 on that is there
2 off. Again that is there.
3 user defined.
What does that mean?
If the station shows the track and artist it will be displayed.
If not the user can press the shazam button and get the information. Note if they do this eter could be number 1.
You ask where is Triode?
It is 3rd on the list.

I have five radio apps that I like and use and they are all somewhat different.

MyTuner has gone from $10 to $60 forever or a subscription so many might find that a bit steep. It has some features I really like and similar stations is one. Is has a very good search feature that can be stacked with various criteria.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mytuner-radio-live-stations/id520502858

Radio Receiver is a great one that I’ve had for a long time. It was inexpensive and I still use it.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/radio-receiver/id311658127

Radio Tuner cost me $4 to remove adds and another $1 for all the recording you want but I don’t really use that feature. They have added some premium subscription and a premium lifetime but I’m not sure what those do yet or if I got in early enough to not need them. Anyway I like it but it doesn’t sync with my other devices. For $5 it is worth it. All do searches somewhat differently.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/radio-tuner-live-fm-stations/id591357891

Then I have Broadcasts and Eter and there are already links to those. I bought Ootunes but many of the links in search are dead so I’d recommend a big no for that one. I like different ways of discovering and listening so the five I have currently and my Music Unlimited subscription all work well for me. Shazam can identify any song and take me directly to it in Music Unlimited where I can listen to the entire album. So it’s up to the individual how far you want to go.

By Nut on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 06:19

I prefer to be able to browse by countries, because some countries can have like hundreds of radio stations. Searching by just typing in a station's name is not efficient for me, thus the reason why I like Broadcasts.
If, say, Eter adds the ability to search by country, then that might work and I might consider using it. But for now, Broadcasts it is.

By Dennis Long on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:19

You can type the country name in the search box. this should do what you want or am I missing what you want?

By Nut on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 12:19

I tried that and indeed I can get radio stations in a particular country to show up.
The local Thai radio station that I've been listening to on Broadcasts was indeed listed in Eter but unfortunately favorites is locked behind a paid upgrade, unlike with Broadcasts where I can add up to 5 favorites without paying.

By Graham on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 17:19

Hi,

The best tuner I've used by far is Receiver. You can set favourites search by country, genre or station name. It works very fast when changing stations in favourites and has actions that you can access via the rota. I've tried most of the above that have been mentioned and for ease of use none match up to Receiver in my humble oppinion.

All the best

By Nut on Saturday, February 15, 2025 - 00:19

I just looked it up and it's a paid app, and it hasn't been updated for almost a year, compared to some of the others mentioned here. Broadcasts, MyTuner and Eter all have been updated more recently.

By Suriyan on Saturday, February 15, 2025 - 07:19

I would also recommend MyTuner, it works great.

By Nut on Saturday, February 15, 2025 - 10:19

From my tests MyTuner is kind of accessible, but there are some unlabeled buttons and the labels on the bottom tabs weren't as good as some of the other apps like Eter or Broadcasts.
At least the favorites feature is available without paying, though I do not know whether there are any limits to the number of favorites. And about the ads...I don't know whether they're just banner adds or there are ads that will interupt the radio playback too.

By Dennis Long on Saturday, February 15, 2025 - 10:19

What you get if you upgrade Eter:

- Save favorite stations so you don’t have to search each time.

- Hide the recommended stations & just see your own list.

- Set a sleep timer to drift off to calming tunes from anywhere in the world.

- Support the continued development of this app.
This is one of the best purchases you can make.
