Issue with latest audible App

Hello everyone,

I just updated to the latest audible app. At the bottom of the screen (as has been the case for years) the initial state of the app includes a "mini player". It does not seem possible to double-tap this to expand the player to full-screen. the workaround is to double-tap-and hold, and whilst keeping the finger on the screen, drag upwards towards the top of the device. I'm running this on iOS 18, on an iPhone 13 Pro.

Has anyone else encountered this behaviour?

I have encountered this as well on an iphone 16 pro running IOS 26.2.1. There also used to be play and jump back buttons right there without having to expand the mini player but they are no longer there and you have to use the action feature to swipe up or down using one finger to either play, jump back, or jump forward but the activate function in those options doesn't open the mini player.

When I first opened my Audible app, assuming I have already been listening to a book previously, I feel around the bottom left corner for the home tab. Then, I swipe left a couple of times until it lands on mini player followed by the book title I've been listening to. When I double tap on that, the play controls opens up, along with controls for navigating by chapters, creating bookmarks, and so forth. It pretty much becomes a full screen control panel, if that makes sense. This is on an iPhone SE 2022, running iOS 18.7.2, with the presumably latest build of Audible.
Also on the screen, I have a row that consists of, chapter backward, jump back 30 seconds, play/pause, jump forward 30 seconds, and chapter forward buttons.
Under these controls, our controls for playback speed, setting a timer, create a bookmark, etc.

Does this not work for you guys?

I just noticed this new behavior this morning. I used the app as usual yesterday and double tapping the mini player made it full screen.

With the latest update, you can use the action rotor, but when it's on Activate, double tapping does nothing. Doing the double tap and drag up thing does work though. Hopefully they'll fix this soon. At least there is a way to still get the big player up if you need it.

I experience this running iOS 26.2.1 on my iPhone 15 Pro. I've found double-tapping on the mini player with screen recognition turned on also brings up the full player. You can turn off screen recognition once you get into the player.

Another thing I dislike about Audible is in the library. There are so many filters and it's kind of confusing. But I can eventually get what I want which is my unread titles so I can choose my next listen.

When I tap on the library, I tap on audiobook. No issues. I curious if we can edit and remove the others to just keep what we want. Long live cats.

What I typically do, is double tap on the Library tab, explore the top left corner for the Search button, them swipe once to the right for the all button. I double tap on that, then I navigate by headings one time to get to the number count of books I have in my library. From there, I simply swipe right until I find a book I want.
For those using the other filters, just start at the search button and swipe right until you find the filter you want, navigate by headings once to get to your number count of books, then swipe right to find the book you want to listen to, based on your selected filter.

HTH.

Edited for typos

Alternatively, you can activate Siri and say, "Play (book title) on Audible". Where (book title) (is the actual title of the book, of course. 😉

Interesting that Siri will do that. Do you have to download the book first?

And thanks Holger. I'll try your suggestion too. Yes, long live cats and German Shepherd guides!

Hope so call siri 2.0 would let you tell her to play a specific audiobook. Maybe in iOS 100? Long live cats and me.

As I write this, I have a separate window open, in which I have a customer service agent from Audible giving me scripted platitudes in their online chat. There does not seem to be any way to report this bug via email to Audible UK. If anyone has a direct support email address for Audible UK, would be great to receive it. Cheers. I am now off the online chat. It has taken 25 minutes to establish that they do not have an email adress. So no idea how to report this, because (unsurprisingly) their first-line chat agents haven't a clue.

Hi
Audible support responded on the r/Audible subreddit, and have filed the bug with the appropriate team.
Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
