Hello everyone,
I just updated to the latest audible app. At the bottom of the screen (as has been the case for years) the initial state of the app includes a "mini player". It does not seem possible to double-tap this to expand the player to full-screen. the workaround is to double-tap-and hold, and whilst keeping the finger on the screen, drag upwards towards the top of the device. I'm running this on iOS 18, on an iPhone 13 Pro.
Has anyone else encountered this behaviour?

Different functioning
I have encountered this as well on an iphone 16 pro running IOS 26.2.1. There also used to be play and jump back buttons right there without having to expand the mini player but they are no longer there and you have to use the action feature to swipe up or down using one finger to either play, jump back, or jump forward but the activate function in those options doesn't open the mini player.
Clarification?
When I first opened my Audible app, assuming I have already been listening to a book previously, I feel around the bottom left corner for the home tab. Then, I swipe left a couple of times until it lands on mini player followed by the book title I've been listening to. When I double tap on that, the play controls opens up, along with controls for navigating by chapters, creating bookmarks, and so forth. It pretty much becomes a full screen control panel, if that makes sense. This is on an iPhone SE 2022, running iOS 18.7.2, with the presumably latest build of Audible.
Also on the screen, I have a row that consists of, chapter backward, jump back 30 seconds, play/pause, jump forward 30 seconds, and chapter forward buttons.
Under these controls, our controls for playback speed, setting a timer, create a bookmark, etc.
Does this not work for you guys?
Confirm Bug
I just noticed this new behavior this morning. I used the app as usual yesterday and double tapping the mini player made it full screen.
With the latest update, you can use the action rotor, but when it's on Activate, double tapping does nothing. Doing the double tap and drag up thing does work though. Hopefully they'll fix this soon. At least there is a way to still get the big player up if you need it.
Screen Recognition Also Works
I experience this running iOS 26.2.1 on my iPhone 15 Pro. I've found double-tapping on the mini player with screen recognition turned on also brings up the full player. You can turn off screen recognition once you get into the player.
Another thing about Audible
Another thing I dislike about Audible is in the library. There are so many filters and it's kind of confusing. But I can eventually get what I want which is my unread titles so I can choose my next listen.
SheilaG
When I tap on the library, I tap on audiobook. No issues. I curious if we can edit and remove the others to just keep what we want. Long live cats.
Headings
What I typically do, is double tap on the Library tab, explore the top left corner for the Search button, them swipe once to the right for the all button. I double tap on that, then I navigate by headings one time to get to the number count of books I have in my library. From there, I simply swipe right until I find a book I want.
For those using the other filters, just start at the search button and swipe right until you find the filter you want, navigate by headings once to get to your number count of books, then swipe right to find the book you want to listen to, based on your selected filter.
HTH.

Siri
Alternatively, you can activate Siri and say, "Play (book title) on Audible". Where (book title) (is the actual title of the book, of course. 😉
To Brian and Holger
Interesting that Siri will do that. Do you have to download the book first?
And thanks Holger. I'll try your suggestion too. Yes, long live cats and German Shepherd guides!
Brian
Hope so call siri 2.0 would let you tell her to play a specific audiobook. Maybe in iOS 100? Long live cats and me.
Contacting Audible
As I write this, I have a separate window open, in which I have a customer service agent from Audible giving me scripted platitudes in their online chat. There does not seem to be any way to report this bug via email to Audible UK. If anyone has a direct support email address for Audible UK, would be great to receive it. Cheers. I am now off the online chat. It has taken 25 minutes to establish that they do not have an email adress. So no idea how to report this, because (unsurprisingly) their first-line chat agents haven't a clue.
Support is aware
Hi
Audible support responded on the r/Audible subreddit, and have filed the bug with the appropriate team.
Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
Sheila G
It has to be in your library. Not necessarily already downloaded, as it can start downloading, and playing after that initial download starts. In other words the book can be downloading and playing together. However, you do have to have at least purchased, or otherwise added it to your library from the Audible website, or from within the Audible app.
HTH.
I noticed this too
I noticed this when I was using Audible the other day. Thank you for the double tap and hold trick, will do this next time.
none activating audible player screen
I have encountered this bug on the latest update. I'm running IOS26.2.1 on my iPhone pro max. To get round it so I could access the back/forward/chapter controls I found the play button, tripple tapped the side button to get rid of Voiceover, tapped the screen once on where the button should be for play then tripple tapped the side button again to re-engage VO. Its just a matter of keeping your finger in the right place while tripple clicking the side button not easy if you have dexterity issues I imagine. Fingers crossed for a quick fix. Also for anyone who doesn't know, if you subscribe to Amazon music that does entitle you to a free audible book once per month. HTH someone.
Best

No problem! I've had bad experiences reporting accessibility bugs through their chat and phone before as well, unfortunately.
Audible update
There is a update for audible. Had not seen this issue but for those who have it. Check if the new update fixed your issue. Long live cats.
Running latest version of Audible
I want to say the latest version of Audible is working fine, except that the version prior was also working fine (for me) (. So, hopefully this will fix the issue others have mentioned, as Holger mentioned above.
another update
Another came out. I notice that in this one, I went to library and slide left to the player and could not find play. Had to go to audiobooks and find my book, in the past If I was playing an audiobook, and did not for a wile, I could just go to the player and just tap play. Long live cats.
Holger
Focus VO on the mini player, and swipe up or down to find your play button. I have this latest update too, and I hate it as I am finally seeing the bug that you all have been talking about. ðŸ˜
Re: Mini player
The double tap and hold, then swipe up works perfectly to actually get into the mini player controls. I'm guessing this is working as intended, rather than a bug. Also, as I mentioned above if you swipe up or down you can find the Play button when you focus VO on the mini player button. One more thing, when a book is already playing, you can focus on the mini player button and swipe up or down to find your Jump Back button.

Did so and did not see it. Nuts. Long live cats. Audible better fix it or they going to get a call from me.
Holger
Nuts indeed.
Try it like this. Open your Audible app. Feel around the bottom left corner for the home tab. Swipe left once and you should find the mini player button. Swipe up or down to find The Play button, or alternatively you can double tap and hold on the mini player button, then swipe up to actually access the entire play control screen. This is where you can do things like set a timer, create a bookmark, Choose a chapter to start at, etc.
HTH.
Brian
First work up and down tap and hold no. Nothing happen. Long live cats. Before it was OK audible screw up so.
Holger
I think I got it. Much like Apple, Audible hates you... 😈
Got it
Yep I now have the bug since the latest update. If of course, it is a bug. At least we have simple ways to bypass the issue.
I'd classify it as a bug
As the intended behaviour of the component should be that it activates on the primary action, and it requires a workaround with the passthrough gesture, I'd classify it as a bug.
That said, the only fix that's needed to implement is that the primary action reverts to activating the mini-player, as the secondary actions are very useful, and minimize clutter in the focus order.
Brian
Conspiracy against me. Sad Apple and audible need to be punish. Long live cats.
Fixed in the latest update
This is now behaving like it's supposed to in the latest update. One can activate the player as primary action, and use secondary actions to play/pause or rewind.
Kudos to Audible for shipping a fast fix!
Note: Even though you have automatic updates enabled, you may need to check in the app store by doing a 3-finger swipe down to refresh on the updates screen for it to show up.
Annoying Bug but Interesting Action Rotor Support
I did find this bug annoying and I'm glad to see it fixed. I'm honestly pretty happy with the wider implementation of the VO Actions rotor here, and wish other apps, including Apple's own apps, would take a queue from this. Admittedly I'm having to pay attention more to areas that let me know there are actions available, but I've always thought the rotor would be a great way to reduce clutter for VO users. For example, the header in the Audible library that says how many books you have now has rotor actions for how to sort your library instead of separate controls. It's like a better implementation of the macos-like Grouped navigation style you can turn on if you want to.
Re: Crash
Yes. That's been an issue for the last few versions of Audible. Workaround is to start at the top left corner of your Library screen, where the Search button is. Swipe right once and choose anything other than Listen, then navigate by heading once to get to the number count of books you have, then swipe right to go through your books. The Listen category is broken for voiceover users.

They Broke Lists for the Millionth Time
Lists are all sorting by recently played now. How are they still screwing this up every 3 months? I swear I just got my lists back in order!
Also even when they were staying in order, books deleting on finish was only working like 10 percent of the time, and playing the next book just wasn't working at all. And yes I made sure the books were marked as unfinished so that behavior really is broken.
