Hello all apple vis users. I could really use your help with something. Forgive me for being a little off topic, but I had nowhere else to turn. Its a long story, but here I go. My first question, are there any captcha solving services or apps for ios. I have been searching far and wide for a free web host that allowed you to install content management software on my site. Anyway, I found several web hosts that looked promising, including one that I really liked. The only problem I found was that all of these services had a captcha on the sign up page. Therefore, I couldn't complete the registration process. I don't have a computer, only an iPhone, so a captcha solving app would be useful to me. And as for my second question, how do you explain how voice over works. I contacted the hosting company I liked best and explained my situation. I stated that I was blind and use screen reading software. I also said that I can fill in the sign up form, but couldn't solve the captcha. After a few emails back and forth, they said there was nothing they could do at this time. What do I do about this? How do I explain how voice over works? Is there a site this company could refer to? I feel that they're not willing to work with me. I'm not giving up, but I have nowhere else to turn. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

A bit of advice.

Unfortunately I cannot tell you an application that will do this. I apologize. However, I can give you a bit of advice on how to handle the situation. The fact that they do not have an audio solution that is readily available is not very good. Also, the fact that the sites employees are not willing to assist you with the sign-up process test of five to the quality of service that they will provide. I suggest being persistent, and if your efforts do not yield any results I suggest going elsewhere. I will keep searching for a solution though. Best of luck.

Your only option for solving

Your only option for solving captchas is to use firefox and to install an extension on it called web visum which is able to solve most captchas automatically. I use it on windows and it works almost all of the time for me when I need to solve a captcha. Of course this is no good for ios, but I would think you can sign up using a windows pc and then log into the service on your iPhone after signing up with the normal computer.

An update

Ok, I sent an email to this company. I told them what I can and can't do with voice over. I also stated that a simple math question could be added as an alternative to the captcha. I specifically asked for help signing up. I told them after registration, I would need no further assistance. As for the audio captcha, they did have one, but it is difficult if not impossible for me to understand. I told this company just that.

Hi Katie, Have you tried calling the company? If you can find a phone number on the website, I would try calling and asking them to assist you with the sign-up process over the phone.

I would do that, however I don't have a working computer anymore. Unless I can get through to these web hosts, I assume I'm out of luck. I'll keep you guys updated.

To Michael, I wish. The only contact info they have is a form which has a captcha on it or an email address. I've been sending this company emails back and forth.

My thoughts

If the company is not willing to assist, then go with someone else. Even if you get through the registration, such as with assistance from a normal sighted person, the lack of support up front is not a good sign for whatever support you may need later on. I also find it discouraging that there is no phone number, as talking to someone in person would be one good way to prove you're not a robot, which is the whole point of Captchas. I know from normal sighted people that the Captchas on some sites are practically impossible for anyone to solve, let alone someone who is visually challenged. It's a shame there have to be Captchas in the first place.

TapTapSee is your work-around solution. I've done this a couple of times, and itk worked. I simply had my Voice Over focussed on the area where the CAPTCHA was located, took a screen-shot and submitted it to TapTapSee. I know that's no way we can record a question before submitting the screen-shot, so we can get exactly what answer we are looking for, but in my case, the TapTapSee people has been smart enough to realize that I had been seeking to get the CAPTCHA verification code from the screen-shot after my second time I submitted the screen-shot Hopefully This work-around solution would work for you as well, same way has been for me! using tap tap see to solve a captcha is a cool idea, I hadn't thought of that, in case people don't know how to take a screen shot, you press the home button and power button together quickly then release them and you should hear the camera sound that indicates a screen shot has been saved to your camera roll.

The captcha problem you are having was created by Google years ago. The captcha you used to login with applevis is what more and more web developers are using on their websites because of this very issue. I know that some hackers have been working toward beating the image style captcha. Once they are successful the image style captcha will become useless from a security standpoint.

Hello. Thanks for the TapTapSee idea. Unfortunately, it didn't work. All it said was iPhone screenshot. Is there anything else I could try? I wish there was a web visum app for the iPhone or something like it. That would be really helpful, but there Isn't at this time. And asked for the battle with my other web hosting company that I have talked about, It turned out, that they no longer had a script auto installer, which was the key feature I was looking for. Nonetheless, I have looked and looked, and can't find a free service provider that does not use a captcha . Unless something does come up, or there is a App for the iPhone, I think I am about ready to throw in the towel. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello. You could if you had a mac or windows running firefox or safari or even chrome use this service I use called rumolla. and as for your issue try linode. I think it should do what you want it to do. They have phone support. If you give them my referral code found in the url or if you copy the code found in the form it puts in automatically you should be good to go.

An alternative to the TapTapSee screen shot

When you run into a captcha, just double tap and hold when standing with your cursor on it. You will now get options to save or copy the image. Select to save the image. Now open TapTapSee and select library from the menu. Swipe to your last picture on the right and double tap it to send it to TapTapSee.
