Accessibility Advocacy
Hey folks
I could really use some ideas over here. Last night Zynga released an update to hanging with Friends, and it still won't let you easily invite friends to play via facebook. They made some kind of a change and I'm having a really difficult time getting that information to them in the right way. I follow them via twitter, and they respond and they apologize, but they just end up sending you to their support site so you can reporta problem. So just a bit ago I went to report the issue, and got as far as choosing the proper link for hanging with friends but that's as far as I got. They have a link that says ask a question, but I couldn't really do much with the website.
Maybe if I explain the problem some of you might have better luck in contacting them? They genuinely seem like they want to be helpful, but the idea of accessibility just doesn't seem to be on their radar.
The game itself works pretty well with VoiceOver. The problems begin when you invite a friend to play via Facebook. when you double tap the button to invite other facebook friends to play, you're presented with a list of your friends and the last time they played. Unfortunately when swiping through the list, each friend is labeled as "facebook friend" instead of their first and last name like in previous versions. So to figure out who each person is you have to double tap on each one to find out who it is, and answer no to the prompt until you find the one you want. This can get quite tedious if you have a large list of friends. I have 62 friends who play so you can imagine this would take a really long time. I know Applevis is a big community, and I know i'm not the only one who plays this game so i'm really hoping a few other folks can manage to contact them so we can hopefully get this resolved. I don't know if this is a problem on Facebook's end or if it's something Zynga can fix, but if they can it would make things a lot easier, and maybe impress on them the importance of making their games more usable to VoiceOver users. So below, i'll paste the tweet I received from them last night which contains a link to their support site. I'd like to know if anyone else was able to successfully report this problem, because I certainly couldn't.
