Suppose you come across a chart on the web, with no text describing what it shows. Is there an app that can import the image of the chart and turn the data into a table or textual description? If not, how difficult would it be for someone to make that? Would it be more difficult than standard object recognition? It’s surprising that this has been rarely if ever discussed on AppleVis, and it’s also surprising that, even with all the object identification apps, nobody has thought of making an app for reading charts. If I’m wrong about that, and there is an app that does this, I’d love to hear about it.

Maybe 1 of the Ocr. apps such as Seeing Ai. do it? I've never thought about it to be honest. And you'd have to have a 2nd device to take a pic of the chart.

it is definitely possible. describing a chart is not the way to go, it loses the whole purpose of charting. i don't know about an app for all purpose charts, but some apps have made chart reading possible, take a look at this:

sometimes you just need to think outside the box. it is instinctive to think about descriptions or tables when it comes to chart, but if developers (and users) use some ingenuity, they can make charts truely accessible, like this app does.
