Hello,
I am not a proficient braille user. I did take grade 1 lessons sometime ago but, sadly I let things slip. I would like to be able to learn how to use braille cards so I can play with my friends and family. Is there an App that can help me learn braille playing cards? If not, is there a on-line resource that can help? I mean really, you have 4 suits, 10 numbers and jack, queen, king and Ace so this should not be that hard right? So folks; Is there an app for that? Peace and love...Rocker

While there are some sources available online, they are visual sources. Also, I have seen braille cards use different signs to say what the suits are. The best advice I can give is get a pack of braille cards, and get someone with vision to help you read the cards so you can just memorize the different ones. I know it’s not great, but unless you have someone who can help you learn to weee braille, I’m not sure what else you can do. Sorry I wasn’t more help.

Hey dude thanks for your reply, indeed it is looking like I'm just going to have to do things the old fashion way here! It is no wonder that braille remains a challenging sale for some of those in the blind community! Braille education always seems to be locked down by service providers or, educational institutions! Thanks again man cheers… Rocker

Buy, learn and enjoy the cards with your friends and family. The grade 1 you learnt is sufficient. Joker is usually represented with JO. Just have fun!

Braille tutor walks you through learning braille. It comes with 10 or more lessons, and the others you can unlock. There are about 90+ lessons in total.

I'm sorry, I forgot that Braille Tutor isn't in the app store anymore.

The best way to learn to read braille playing cards is by learning the basics of braille.

The Hadley Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired has lessons that you can take by correspondence to learn braille. In order to read playing cards, you will only need to have a basic grounding in braille. Hadley's lessons are free of charge.

Can anyone help me to use my Orbit Reader 20 (which has dots 7 and 8 either side of the Space bar) with my MacBook Pro 2013? I’m a beginner and have just got to grips with using my BraillePen Slim with my iPhone. But wherever I look for Mac and Braille, I only get the usual non-Braille shortcuts with no reference to dots 1-6 nor dots anything! How do I even get started?
Thanks
Harry

you may also find resources at the National Braille Press, www.nbp.org. I imagine they will at least have some braille learning links or a resorce page you might can go to for further direction. Good luck.

I'll check them out! Any of the iPhone applications I have taken a look at seem to be geared to teaching The cited! Not voiceover accessible unfortunately!
