Here is how you do it.
1: open the phone app.
2: double tap on the contacts tab.
3: choose your contact.
4: tap with one finger on the leftmost tab once.
5: flick left until you hear block contact. This blocks texts, facetime and calls.
If you don't have this person as a contact...
1: Go to latest. Flick up on the call where the number is.
2: choose more info.
3: add this to a contact; just to find it. Just add it to a contact that is named blocked and then go to the steps above to be able to block the user after adding them.
4: now you should no longer be bothered by this caller's texts, phone calls or facetime calls.

In the recent tab of the phone find the number you want to block, swipe up once for More Info, touch the bottom left of your screen, it will say favorites, swipe once to the left and VoiceOver will say block this caller. Double tap on this option. NO need to add spam numbers or unwanted callers to your contacts list.

If you block anyone following the steps above they should not be able to text you either.

In the More info options under Recents, there's the option to block the call right there, just after Add to Existing option. Again, we can tap the bottom left tab and flick left to find it.
