I tried using iCloud before, but didn't have any luck with it and found it very confusing. Is there another way to move files between a computer to an iPhone? There was a thread that talked about an app called anytrans, but when I searched for it all I found was something to transfer photos. If someone can help someone who's feeling quite stupid because they can't figure this out I hope you can enlighten me a bit. Thanks for reading.

Transferring mp3 to iPhone
Well, the "Apple way" is to use iTunes. If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can probably just download the music from the Music app. Otherwise, you'll have to investigate apps that allow you to connect to cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive. Voice Dream Reader will do this and play mp3 files. It's designed for playing mp3 audiobooks, but it will work for music as well. The Files app might work, but I've not tried it.
2 Options
There's a way to do it without using third party apps if you use the VLC media player app for playback on the phone. If I remember correctly, it involves uploading files through the web browser or using wifi sync.
If you want to transfer the mp3 to listen to it with the music app for example, you can transfer music to the phone using iTunes, or Media Monkey. Personally I've always used Media Monkey for this task.
Tuppence worth!
I hate iTunes and spend as little time in there as possible - although there is merit in allowing iTunes to do a backup for you as preparation for your phone's imminent failure!
I have iTunes loaded on my Windows desktop and laptop computers and connect my iPhone 6 with a USB to lightning cable. Yea, right... an old fashioned wired connection that I can see and feel, unlike all that wireless witchcraft!
iTunes recognises the phone and it can automatically start a backup.
From there I can copy the audio files (or drag and drop) into the iTunes library and it should replicate/synchronise to your iPhone.
AirDrop
If you're using a Mac, you can transfer the files using AirDrop.
To do this, select the files in the Finder and press VO Shift M to access the contextual menu. From this menu, choose share > AirDrop. Once the files are transferred, they will play by default in the files app.

Music Cloud Player
I’ve been using an app, Cloud Music Player, available from Cloud Music Player - Listener de Jhon Belle which allows you to transfer music either via WiFi transfer from computer to iPhone, or via clouds like Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive. Hope this helps some.
