Hello all,
I received a 2018 9.7 iPad for Christmas. I set up the mail app on the device and had some questions. First whenever I open it up instead of landing in my list of messages, I end up in one of the messages. I then have to back out to get to the list of messages. Is there a settting I can do that tells the app to start me in my list of messages rather than in an actual message? Next when I am moving up and down in my message list voiceovers focus jumps into one of the messages. Is this a known bug or is this due to the split screen view? If its because of the split screen view can this be turned off?
Thanks,
Greg Wocher

Hmm, I'm not really sure what
Hmm, I'm not really sure what's happening there. Admittedly, it's a very long time since I set up mail on my iPad, and I'm not sure how the defaults work, but this is how I read mail.
When I open the app, there's a list of messages on the left side and, sometimes, an open message on the right. To read mail, I go over to the left hand side of the screen and make sure I'm at the top and go through them from there. If I tap on a message, it appears on the right.
Yes, sometimes if I do something like delete a message it'll jump focus to the message on the right instead, but touching the left side of the screen to find the message list isn't usually that much of a problem.
Is this any help?
Strange
For me ass soon as I am entering into the mail app it is in the newest read message. I have to back out of it using the back button. Even the scrub gesture won't work to back me out to where I can get to the list of messages on the left side. If I cannot figure this out I may switch over and use the Outlook app. I have tried it and it seems to be fairly accessible.

Ok, basically if you run Mail
Ok, basically if you run Mail in split view with any other apps, it's essentially running in iPhone mode, so no duel pane mail interface.
As for why it starts in a message every time, I'm not sure. Have you tried making sure you're looking at the messages list before you quit the app?
Some ideas
1. It could be a faulty/corrupt email. Delete or move the e-mail; empty trash then close the App. Cross your fingers.
2. [This is like black magic, but strangely it worked on my iPad] Open the mail App in portrait mode. Scroll up to your most recent e-mail and open it. Close the App while still in portrait mode (ie: double tap the home button and close the App by swiping up, or whatever VoiceOver wants you to do). Open the mail App again in portrait mode and it should be at the top of your list. Now, even if I was in a different folder when I last opened the App, I arrive at the most recent message, whether portrait or landscape.
However... if I just task switch (instead of closing) out of the App and then return to it, it takes me back to the last message that I was looking at.
