Hi friends,
I have asked this question before, but maybe not on the right forum. I feel sad that Papasangre did not make it through the iOS evolution, and I keep thinking of all that wasted amazing production, sound effects, actors and so on.
Does anyone know what happened to the Somethin else team? And, of course, I have browsed your games list here on Applevis, but there are so many… Is there anything that comes near to it?
Thank you for your advices and help,
best regards,
JPR

Somethin else
This group of developers closed their doors a few years back, because basically, the cost of developing the games simply surpassed the money they were actually making. This, in my opinion, is partially their fault, since I feel like they spent a bit too much on professional voice actors, but it is probably something that is not worth debating anymore. All that being said, unless someone has backups of those games they could send you, you'll likely never see them around again unless someone takes their engine and develops a game with a similar concept. Even if you manage to find copies of those games, it is very questionable whether or not they will work with the latest versions of iOS and devices. As for the engine, last I heard, they made it open-source, or purchasable, whatever it was. However, I don't believe anyone has done anything with it to date.
The Nearest Thing I've Found
Hi. To be honest, Papa Sangre was in a league of its own. I don't think there will ever be anything to top it. But the game I play a lot these days, that has just won a Golden Apple award and another award, that doesn't have the same story but does have the same ease of play interface but challengeing play and which has just had an update and added a very neat and much more challenging new game theme with really excellent new sounds is Feer, the Game of Running Blind. If you haven't tried it already, go get it. Like you I feel very sad that Papa didn't make it through all the iOS changes, I really miss it. For me it was best when you turned vo off completely to play it. I loved the walking with your thumbs and swipe to turn action, no other game even comes near that wonderful ease of play, though Feer comes the closest. I hate tilting the phone or having to turn in real time, yuk! I hope you like Feer if you've tried it already or get to try it.
Thanks Lulu.
Thanks Lulu.
I'll try Feer. But like you, I'll miss Papasangre , and professional voices is also what made it so exciting.
Cheers,
JP
Anyway, if anyone here knows
Anyway, if anyone here knows any ex Somethin els member, please tell them we want Papasangre back.

Re : what happened to the Somethin Els team
So I recently went to their website expecting it to be down, and to my surprise I could access it. When I read their website bio, it all started to make sense.
Somethin Els is now a company that promotes other brands.
You may be asking, why do I say this? Because they still have their old domain name, and because I played one of their videos and I specifically remember hearing the words, “Hi, we’re Somethin Els””
I guess promoting other brands is more profitable than making games for a small community of people.
Well, there you go. That is what happened to the team.
Another game that could be of interest
So, this game is not ideal, since it’s really expensive, but I understand why it is expensive. It’s called Echos from Levia and it has a similar game play mode. Again, it’s not the same, and I don’t think it’s quite as good, but all that being said I have not played it so much yet. we
One more thing T
I know this is a longshot, but would anyone happen to know of anyone who might have any of the something else game Files backed up?
Thoughts
Honestly it makes me sad to see games like this disappear. I primarily play games for the sighted, because I have just enough vision to mostly be able to do that. This one however was quite decent as far as audio games go. There certainly wasn't a lot of voice acting, but what there was was quite decent. I commend the developers for hiring or utilizing untalented people recording with their smart phones from a noisy basement. I also really appreciate the sound design. I am both a sound designer and voice actor, and I can tell you that while it certainly takes commitment to make something like this, even as a small developer, you don't need to break the bank to find talent. You just have to look harder and yes, preferably be willing to compensate if you plan to make money. No, the problem wasn't the voice actors. The problem was the market they were selling to. We blind people? We're hardly numerous. Of those whom there are who actually play games, there is, as far as I've been able to gather more than a few of us unwilling to pay more than a couple dollars for a game, if even that. Echoes From Levia for instance, while certainly more expensive than Papa was is still pretty cheap by gaming standards. And in that case, voice acting is very, very much hit and miss. I feel like Papa's gameplay content was short enough that the developers didn't need to charge too much for it. The problem is, there just weren't enough to keep them afloat it seems. Though we did get two games out of them. Actually three, because didn't they also make the NightJar?
To answer the actual question, A Blind Legend, though it is more combat oriented. I feel like there was one other game in the Papa Sangre ilk, but for the life of me I can't remember its name. I'm pretty sure it was not by the same developer.
no it was
we got 4 games from somethin else, audio defence beeing the other one
I shouldn't post this ...
Hi.
Ok, I think I really shouldn't post this, but there is a way to get the Ipa files back onto your phones and possibly play them, I won't take any responsibility for broken devices, not working software or anything, so do it at your own risc.
The process is simply to download the ipa files from the web and side load them with cydia extractor from a computer to your phone.
The link for the ipa files is.
www.jennios.com/ipa.zip
For infos about cydia extractor, where to get it and how to use it, please consult google, all the infos are there.
Kind regards.

Do you need to jailbreak your phone?
Thanks,

Thank you
Thank you very much for giving us this information, and for the warnings. It’s good to know what I’m getting into.
I'm not sure
Well, I'm not sure how you have to jailbreak your phone or not. However, I can honestly say that I had all of their games on iOS. Papa Sangre, audio defense [which another shooting game is coming out that is kind of similar] and the Nightjar, which is my favorite game because you just walk. The sounds with all those games were amazing and I do understand why they went away.
But do they work on your
But do they work on your iPhone at present, and did you have to do something special to your iPhone for them to work?
Jailbreaking and funktionality
Hey all.
No, you do not need to jailbreak your phone to use cydia impactor, again, things you need to do are on the website and can be found online.
if the games work, well, you gotta try to see if they work for you. I currently can't test the games because my lightning port on the phone is broken and I can't plug it into the computer.
dunno if this will work
I tried installing this apps with itunes 12.6; thats the itunes version that lets you install app from appstore, i have that itunes version on windows; but while i mannaged to install the app without any problem, the app just said waiting, as if it was downloading, i'm not sure if its going to work even with sidia impactor in ios 12 given the changes apple made
Check out Fear.
Papa Sangre was amazing but difficult. I think that the developers priced themselves out of the market. When I heard about Fear, I remembered them. Fear's pretty cool, and it's a lot easier than A Blind Legend and similar games in my opinion.
yes you can use xcode
yes you can use xcode to install apps, but as far as i tried and know, it won't work, not with somethin else's games sadly. You can use xcode, apple configurator 2... i tried that too, but... it didn't work. sad
Wish someone had the music for some of the games
Hi.
I really enjoyed Papa Sangre and all of the other games. One thing I wish I had was the music for Papa Sangre II, especially the music at the beginning where the record player was playing and you had to get the memories.. I really miss the game, and don't think that other developers will make that type of game.
For the record
I did download the files, and was able to get them to work on my iPhone. The iPhone is running iOS 12.something, not the newest release, but close to it. It worked when I downloaded the files away suggested earlier in this thread, using Cydia impactor using my Mac. Funnily enough, a few of them didn’t work at first, but then they did. Not quite sure why that was, but I’m not complaining.
