Blindfold Doggy

Category

Description of App

Blindfold Doggy is a fully accessible dog ownership simulation game, for both sighted and visually impaired people, designed for rapid audio play. The object of the game is care for your dog: the better you care for your dog, the more points you'll score.

After learning the sounds your dog makes when he needs something, you must take care of your dog: feed him, walk him, give him water, brush him and play with him.

For example, to walk your dog, put on his collar and leash, open the door and start walking: swipe down with one finger. Each down swipe takes you one step further from home. Each up swipe takes you one step closer to home. When you leave the house for a walk, the front door automatically closes behind you. To go back inside, walk back to the door and open it. Make sure you close the door, or your dog may run away.

Once you've mastered taking care of one dog, try taking care of two. It's much harder!

Then try the adventure game - go shopping for new toys and food, and take your dog to the veterinarian for routine checkups.

The game comes with limited play before you run out of food. To get unlimited play, or other options, use the in-app upgrades.

For people who are having trouble with removing the leash and the game thinking you've left the leash on when you really haven't, here is a work around that just might do the trick. Once you are at home, whistle to have your dog sit. Then go to leash, double-tap, and swipe up to remove the leash. After that, just open the front door and have your dog walk in to the house. Close the door before doing anything else with your dog.

By DMNagel on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - 15:49

Sometimes your dog will bark to indicate that he wants to pee or poop when it's not actually his time yet. For peeing, take the dog out first, then give him water 5 times while outside. Next walk further away from home until they pee. For pooping, just give your dog some food until he farts, then take him out and walk until he poops.

I cannot make it work. I have the feature on but I cannot use the keyboard in the app.

By Leela on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - 15:49

If you open the door before you put on the leash you won't get the bug.

By SilverMoon on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - 15:49

Right, but if you open the door, before putting the leash on, won't the dog run away? this is all so confusing.
I have the app, but am currently not laying the game, as the bugs truly do confuse me. I know it's being worked on though.
Okay so I decided to give the thing another try.
But I'm having an issue, where when I try to walk the dog back home, because of the swipe up gesture, it activates the control center. Not sure what to do. help?

By treky fan on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - 15:49

I had the same issue when I first started playing. Here's how to fix it. One, open settings and swipe until you hear control center. Double-tap this. Two, Once in the settings for control center, swipe until you hear show in apps and double-tap. Note with the setting to show control center in apps turned off, you will need to access the control center from your device's home or lock screen. Turning off the show control center in apps setting is the only way I've found to keep it from coming up. Hope this helps.

Hello, it's me again.
So I'm losing points randomly, and without reason. Not sure why.
I can only get it up to about 20 points, before for unknown reasons, I start losing them. I trust, I did something to lose them, but not sure why.
Also, I have a question.
If I had unlimited play, what is the difference between the normal game with explanations, and the regular normal game?
I don't really see where the explanations come in.
All in all, this is an awesome app, it just needs to be tested more. I'd recommend a section in the user guide, naming how and why you lose points. Because this is really frustrating to have twenty points, and to lose them all.
Also, another bug.
Sometimes when I play with him once, and go to play again, it says my dog needs to sleep. however, swiping down with three fingers, shows no such information.
What I'm finding, is a lot of inconsistency between the game, and the information the game gives you when doing the three finger swipe down.
Hope this helps.
As for the control center, I figured it out.
I just have ti swipe up towards the top of the screen.

Hello all,

Earlier I was scrolling through the variofs comments on this thread. I just feel like I should voice my opinions here.

There are 2 sides to this argument, and I partially agree with both of them. On one hand, the game is rather expensive. For kids like me whose parents are stingy by choice, (and don't believe in dumping almost $10 on a game), this makes us feel left out, since so many other blind people are putting the dough down and getting the full version. On another, the dev needs the money to make a living. People who extensively complain about the dev's price for the game aren't getting the point that, developing these games takes hundreds of hours of labor. Combine that with all the games the dev is producing at once, the stress of making game concepts, and other labor involved, developing these games must take a lot of time and energy. However, I do agree that these games are a tad expensive.

The average sighted gamer has a bunch of FREE games to choose from, most of which are good quality and only have a few optional in-app purchases. However, for this one-of-a-kind type of completely accessible virtual pet game, there is only one option here. Maybe the dev could find other ways to make money off of the game, like allowing the player to unlock optional in-app purchases i.e. points, dog costumes etc. It would also be nice if we could rack up enough points and watch enough adsand then get the full version for Hfree.

Once we get all of the other bugs out, I'll will fix that.

By Sabrina on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - 15:49

Thank you. My phone died and I won't get a new one for a very long time and so I am using my iPad and I love when games have keyboard support because that makes things lots easier.

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

The leash now seems to work properly and item reports are now accurate. The play bug still persists. When you take the dog out, his need to play will reset. This is bad because people can cheat by saving coins on toys by taking advantage of this bug.

You can double-tap with three fingers to get a game log. This should tell you why you've lost points. I'm not randomly losing them. And if I do, I can get information on why.

I have a weird thing where if the game has completely shut down (not active in App Switcher) and then I resume my game via the Resume button, my status says my dog needs to play in something like sixty hours. Eventually, it goes more in line with sensible timeframes, but that's what I get when first entering the game after a long absence.

I always take my dog out if he needs it before playing, just because I don't want him peeing on my floor.

The three-finger swipe says I have 27 Kibble portions and the three-finger tap says 24. Not exactly the same, but close enough.

I'm working on that bug. Other bugs - please email me from the game.

Hi
The first thing I would like to say is, wow. You have done an excellent job on this game. I will definitely be purchasing the full game
Second, I was wondering how you apply to test new blindfold games that are in beta. Someone mentioned it a while back in this thread and I was just curious because I want to test new games. Again, great job on this game. Keep it up

By Lucretia M. Brown on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

Hey guys, I have a goofy question. Do you have the Adventure game, to buy your dog food?

By treky fan on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

In reply to the last poster, the adventure game is just like having a real dog. You have to take your dog to the vet, buy food, toys, etc.

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

I just wish that there was actually some difference between a trained and untrained dog. While the leash now works properly, it is still not a necessity. Both trained and untrained dogs are behaving the same. Currently it feels like there's nothing special about a trained dog. I can trust my dog just fine, even with 0 points.

By Boxer1 on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

I have a question. How come all of the updates to blindfold games just say minor bug fixes on the App Store update description?

By KidFriendlySoftware on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

In reply to by Boxer1

Most people don't read those, so I put the update list in the app and it shows them when the app starts.

It would be neat if there could be a horse to care for. And going in to fantasy land for a bit, it would be neat to have a unicorn or a dragon.

By Andromache on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

I still agree. Other animals would be great. Would also be fun if our dogs could interact with other players' dogs. But I suppose that would be a bit involved and would need Internet.

By Ray Rucker on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

How do I leave the vet when I'm done? Every time i swipe to the dor and double tap, it says that I bought another office visit. Help?

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

Just swipe up with one finger.

By Sabrina on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

An untrained dog, if you take off the leash the dog will run away. Not when you have a trained dog. The trained dog can listen to whistling commands. I like to watch Medusa swim.

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

The dog will run away when you remove the leash without making him sit first, regardless of whether he is trained or not. With 0 points, i can remove the leash just fine as long as i don't forget to make him sit first.

By treky fan on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

Subject line says it all. There should be a longer time between vet visits. In real life, your dog doesn't need to visit the vet every two days. Maybe this could be adjusted to every week or every other week.

By treky fan on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

Hi Marty, that sounds good. Can you make another game like this in the future with another animal?

By KidFriendlySoftware on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

In reply to by treky fan

What other animal has such a diverse set of sounds?

I found dozens and dozens of dog sounds.
I looked for kitty sounds when I was doing another game, but only found about 6 or 7.

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

People can cheat and save coins on the vet. Just take your dog to the vet and enter the building. Instead of paying the vet, just leave the building. The dog's need to visit the vet will reset.

By flcomputergeek on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

I understand the challenge to create other animals if finding sounds for them is difficult. I'd bet there are tons of baby sounds out there, and a blindfold baby simulation would be awesome. I'd also love a cat, even if it only had a few sounds. I wonder though if it may be possible to implement some additional doggy sounds that would mimic the sizes of the available dogs. For instance, I chose the smallest dog, so I'm picturing a chuhuahua, and the dog sounds in the game remind me more of a very large dog. So, I joke with my friends that I have a virtual chuhuahua with the voice of a great dane. Just some random thoughts, for whatever they're worth.

By Sabrina on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

I discovered this too whenk I didhn't have enough points. So I got the double tap to pay the bill thing and I did and it showed me I wasn't able to pay for it so I just went out and walked home.
I am so looking forward to getting keyboard suport. I have two dogs currently, Medusa and Susanna. It's going rather great. I like all of the sounds the way they are. I love the canned food sound.

By Melissa Roe on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

First off, I want to personally thank app developer kid friendly software for these great games. Regardless of what anyone thinks about pricing, devices like the iPhone open up a whole new world for all of us, and it’s great to see someone taking steps to make using these devices fun and exciting. I think it’s important to not lose sight, no pun intended, of the wonderful apps we have, that certainly wouldn’t have made something as simple as game play a user friendly experience that was accessible, portable, and in some cases, addicting. While I’m not an avid game player, I do like the doggy sound pack on blind fold color crush, and I will revisit those cute little furry bodies from time to time. As you probably guessed by now, I absolutely love dogs, especially labs. My guide dog, a yellow lab named Zappa, even has his own blog. If I could choose, a new life to be reincarnated into, if that truly is possible, I’d love to come back as a beautiful furry lab. I want Labrador shaped houses! Okay okay, I’m getting carried away, but I believe with that intro, you could perhaps imagine the excitement that flowed through me when I found out about this game today. I know I’m late to the party, because a full-time university student doesn’t get much time for fun, but I thought I’d try to check it out. Since I can’t immediately download this app due to a minor billing problem with one of my cards, which I’ll be sorting out tonight, I decided I’d read the comment thread, while my roommate, who is also another guide dog owner, downloaded the app. I watched her enviously, but it was nice to see how much went into this game. I really appreciate that this game has been put together, and my roommate and I can’t wait to go upgrade shopping soon. :) Anyway, before I get carried away, I wanted to share a couple of thoughts.

I’m sure the confusion between trained and untrained dog behavior will be cleared up in time. Remember, that even an untrained dog will always take an opportunity if it presents itself, and really has a desire to do so. For instance, Zappa, a well-trained six-year-old guide dog, still wants to chase after ducks, even in harness. Thankfully, this happens only once a year or so, but with a little correction, he is back in business. I’m not saying that the bugs shouldn’t be fixed. If anything, that will minimize the confusion, especially for those who are new to the game, or maybe are in fear of messing things up with the dog. Remember though, it’s a simulated dog, and ideally, I’d rather make mistakes with a fake dog than a real one. I have some faith that these bugs will hopefully soon sort themselves out, with the dedication of the developer.

Also, in regard to pricing, there aren’t always going to be times when I can easily justify the purchase of a game, but when I do, I know I expect to enjoy long hours of playing it, to make my investment worth it. There may be higher prices in these games, but the developers pay a lot in time, and I do imagine having a developer account costs some monetary investment as well. If the demand isn’t as high as it normally would be in the mainstream market, they have to be able to support themselves to continually develop these apps.

Speaking of the mainstream market, I did notice that the app description says it is for both sighted and visually impaired people, which is definitely true, if the sighted people would be willing to give it a try. My roommate, who is partially sighted and uses her phone with and without voiceover, said there aren’t any graphics, but she just got the app today, and hasn’t made any upgrade purchases. I know audio play is the main focus of the game, and adding graphics may present a host of challenges to keep the app accessible to voiceover users like myself, but I wonder if sighted people will be more interested if there were at least some pictures of dogs or something like that to add to the cuteness factor. For the rest of us who need only sound it may not mean much, but if there is at least, something slightly visually appealing, it might increase the number of game players, and hence forth, increase the money coming in. If this cannot be done, then that’s fine. I’m not a developer, so I can’t offer any additional advice. I can only wish the developer good luck and thank them for their continued work on this app.

Finally, you can bet that I will be downloading this app tonight, and as someone who also enjoys podcasting, I can make a podcast of the app if necessary. I noticed a poster was interested in one, and if there is interest, I will record one. Let me know, though, because even though I love podcasting, my time is valuable as well. :)

Take care, and I hope everyone has a happy Halloween. Be safe.

I thought of that, too. Having barks that correspond to dog sizes. I chose a small dog, too, and thought it was strange he sounded so big. Haha.

Just in terms of usability, I wonder if the whistle, leash, and door actions could be moved so they are next to each other. I dislike having to find the whistle action when I want to do something with the leash. And the only time the leash is needed is when going out.

Thanks for all your ideas and feedback.
In general, sighted people ignore Blindfold Games, and don't like audio-only games.
The games we will be building under our new company - ObjectiveEd - will be for blind, low-vision and sighted students.

The version due out in a few days should fix many of the problems you've encountered.

And if you make a podcast, we'll tell everyone about it.

By KidFriendlySoftware on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

The new version is out with slews of problems fixed. Please let me know if you encounter any issues.

By Sabrina on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

Love this new update. I only have the problem that I get my dogs running away several times before I can close the door.

By DMNagel on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

When your dog isn't trained and you open the door without putting on the leash, the dog will run away like it should. However, instead of running away once, the dog will enter a run away loop.

By treky fan on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 15:49

For the last two updates, notifications seem to be broken. I don't get any notifications, and I have the app set to allow them. My phone is not on dnd, and this is happening even during the hours I'm awake.

Hello,
Since this forum doesn’t seem to be working real well for one I am about to say, can you email me privately? I will be able to answer your question and shoulder deal about pulling up the control center as you walk your dog. My email address is apiccinino@outlook.com. Thank you, and have a good night. I look forward to your message.

I received this report a few times - I am investigating.

By Jimmy V on Sunday, December 23, 2018 - 15:49

I love this type of a game, great job Marty for thinking of it. The first bug when your dog needs attension, if you bring up the app from the app switcher and try to do an action you get the invalid jesture sound. Second has to do with the practice game. When you run out of food, the dog eating food sound is still played. I think it should just say that you have no food left sorry if these were already pointed out Enjoy your holiday

Does it let you do any action at that point - if not , how have you been solving this.
As to running out of food, that will be fixed in the next version.

By Jimmy V on Sunday, December 23, 2018 - 15:49

I've been closing and reopening it. Although, the strange thing is this bug only happens when dog has to pee, and no other time. I'm glad the food bug will be fixed next version. Thank you for always responding and making great games

By Jimmy V on Sunday, December 23, 2018 - 15:49

ok my dog is trained enough to go into the river but how do I get him to swim? I'm curious to see what that's like.
