Hi everyone. Since the recent updates of the Netflix app I haven’t been able to find the audio description section on the app. It used to be under search. does anyone know where it is now?
In order to find the categories, click on the home tab. Once you do that, check on the upper left corner on your screen and you will find two buttons. These buttons are: TV Shows and Movies. Click or double tap on any of those two buttons and there you will find a button that says All Generas.
:-)
Cheers
I'm not a fan of how Netflix treats audio description like its own genre. I wish you could just filter by it, but still browse other genres. If I want an audio described horror movie I need to either search under the genre and hope something's audio described, or search under audio description and hope to find the genre. But, complaining aside, they really are getting better about their audio description.
i remember when you went into the search tab of the netflix app you could either search for something directly or a list of genres was underneath the search field.i’m not sure why they decided to wipe out the genres completely but it makes it rather difficult to choose a movie if you can’t browse for one
Thanks very much for the instructions on how to find the audio description tab again. I too was frustrated about not being able to find it. However, after going to the all genras tab and then double tapping audio description, it just takes you back to the home screen where you see TV shows or movies (depending on which one you chose) and an audio description button but the rest of the screen is the same home tab with all of the various headings like my list, new releases, etc. It does not appear to be filtering to only show audio description items. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or missing some steps. Tapping the audio description button again just takes you back to the screen where you can choose a genra.
When you double tap on either of the two buttons I mentioned, you will have a new window that will open and there you will find a button that says: All Genres.
Double tap on that button and a list of categories will open and then keep scrolling to the bottom and there you will find the audio description category. Double tap on that button and those programs you will find there Are the ones with audio description.
I hope that helps.
I just opened Netflix and double check to make sure I was giving you the correct information.
Cheers
Thanks so much for your help. Nice to be able to find it again. It would be nice not to have audio description as its own genre. Surely they could put audio described after the title of a show or movie.
It doesn't really bother me. I just look at it this way: if I'm gonna go through a list, a huge list of different programs, and I am going to find one that will say audio description for every five or 10 that won't say audio description available, hey, I rather have it this way. :-) But that is just my way of looking at it.
:-)
Cheers, my friends.
It doesn't give you a complete listing like it use to, at least I don't think it does.
It just shows you what's popular, but to get to it, you have to
scroll past your watch list.
If you want the complete list, you have to use the website, and even that doesn't appear to be accurate.
Obviously this differs depending on your country, I'm in australia and beauty and the beast isn't listed as having audio description, yet when you play it, it's described.
I have my settings on iOS to play described content automatically if available, so that's how I found out.
Another option you have is using unogs.com which is a global netflix search engine. When you go to the page, go by heading to find the buttons to filter the results. You'll probably want to filter only to the country you're located in, and then filter audio to audio description and the genre to whatever you want. Then just press the search button and you will find the results
Now, since the change, not only is it harder to find audio described content, but the list you get is much shorter than it used to be.
Overall, I'm finding that the app is delivering a worse experience for audio described content and it's been going that way for a little while.
I also agree with other posters that it would be much more useful if audio description were not treated as a genre, but was simply an attribute you could filter by. That way, you can set the AD filter, and then any genre you selected would only contain audio described content. From a technical perspective, that should be simple for the app developers to do.
Furthermore, I'd like it if each programme did have an indication of whether it was audio described without having to play it to find out, either by hearing it, or checking the Audio and Subtitle Options. This would stop programmes and films cluttering up my Continue Watching category with films I have no intention of watching because they aren't audio described.

Love the filter, but

doable on the web only
to post 2, that's actually doable from the web.
Go to the audio description page, then sort by genre.
Last I checked, this wasn't possible with the app.

I too find that the list you get is incomplete.
Having said that, it always was a limited list in the app. If you go to http://www.netflix.com/browse/audio-description, the list is much longer than what you got in the IOS app.

Sorry for the rant...
