My guess is that the hardware on the 6S is still able to use 32-bit software, whereas some of the later iPhones cannot. That may be totally wrong, but that's the only other thing I can think of.
Hey that's interesting stuff, certainly a change from what they use to say about these batteries. It could be a tech change in the way they are making them now. @Joseph, Could you please link some of those articles you mentioned? I'm not saying that your info is wrong or that you're wrong :) I just like to do my research lol.
I do agree that you shouldn't leave the battery plugged in any longer than necessary, as once the battery is full that will definitely damage it.
As Apple has been cracking down and making policy changes to the app store, it is in fact possible that the author's app(s) were removed; this could be due to lack of compliance with Apple's evolving guidelines and requirements, or some other unknown reason. This actually happens from time to time, the app might come back after an update, or it may not ever come back at all. If the app was purchased it will show up in your iCloud, or if you backed it up to iCloud, but since it's no longer on the app store, you won't be able to reinstall.
The 32/64bit thing shouldn't be a problem/issue, those apps should still show up, but whenever you try to install them they will give you an error about the app needing to be udpated. At least that's what I've seen when trying to install 32bit apps that I own that were never updated.
Hello. I have been reading many of these comments and I am considering upgrading from a 7plus 128 GB to an XR. I have some vision, so one of the things I like about the XR is the variety of colors. I also like the larger screen of the XS. I use my phone for apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Netflix. That might be why my phone's battery dranes so offen. I would like to know your thoughts.
Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!
@Becca, have you been able to compare the 2 screens, XR and XS? Or were you thinking XS max? OLED from what I've heard and gathered is much better looking than the LCD, especially when it comes to aliasing. Also, not sure if it matters to you, but the XS has true 1080P, while the XR is a lower resolution.
Also consider this, what will you put the phone in? A case that is see-through, such that you can see and show off the colors of the XR? Or are you getting a case that is completely enclosed, in which case the phone's actual color won't be seen and might therefore not matter?
Also consider other features like 3D touch, do you need it/use it? Better antennas for 5G, does/will that matter to you?
From what we've been sharing on this thread, it appears that battery numbers are dependent more on usage than the type of phone, and that OLED screens are more energy efficient than LCD, the only reason the XS uses more power is due to the extra pixels it needs to move around, as oppose to the XR which has less pixels to deal with, so the graphics engine isn't so taxing on the battery.
I have decided to purchase the iPhone XR. I absolutely love the screen size and I feel like 3D Touch is a gimmick because rumors suggest that Apple is considering removing the future all together next year.
Hello sockhopsinger. I had forgotten about 32 bit versus 64 bit software. Perhaps that's why it was pulled from the App Store. Hopefully the dev. will bring it back as it worked so well.
Hello. I went to my local Apple Store yesterday and had a chance to check out the XR and XSMax. I love the feel and screen size of the XSMax. After looking at the XR I thought it was great but liked the feel of the XSMax better. I also had a chance to check out the new iPad Pro 11 inch and fell in love with it. I don’t have the means to upgrade right now but I really love the XSMax.
Thanks for your feedback.
Hi everyone. As I previously mentioned, I’m using a 128 GB iPhone 7plus running the latest software. Is there anything I can do to maximize battery life?
One simple thing you can do is to place the phone into Airplane mode. This will stop all notifications from coming in. Keep in mind, this isn't the same as Do Not Disturb. The Do Not Disturb mode silences all notifications but still allows them to come in, which means the battery is still being used in the background, always looking for activity; whereas, Airplane mode completely stops looking for notifications.
There is also some things such as turning on Screen Curtain and turning Screen Brightness down to zero, which also stops heavier battery useage.
I would also refer to a Blog written by Morgan on this site. It is entitled Power Trip: Hurricane Harvey and My iPhone. Here you can read about more things to lower battery useage.
@Roxann Pollard thank you for the suggestions. I turned my phone on low power mode and turned the brightness down to zero. That seems to be working.
Thank you.
Hi,
At anyone else that may look at this topic and maybe considering to buy an Iphone MAX, there is one issue you need to be aware of.
The speakers on Iphone XS Max not all but many have this issue where in the top speaker stops working after a while. a reset or restart fixes the issue, but after a while the same thing will happen again. pretty fun for a phone that costs $1400, no?
having the same bloody issue and the buggers refuse to replace the phone.
The XS has this issue too,but not sure about the XR
a video here. https://youtu.be/cWWe1qN5Xvw
@Becca, what is your plus's battery health at? You could/should probably get it replaced before the year/ replacement offer ends if it's in critical health.
Something else you can check is all your apps, and background refresh; many people overlook how much batttery drains when apps are constantly fetching stuff in the background. So much so, that this is 1 of the main power saving features of low power mode, disabling background refresh. You don't have to disable it completely, since some apps could definitely benefit from it, but you can go to settings>general>background refresh and select which apps you think really need to refresh their content in the background; if you turn one off and it doesn't work properly, you can always go back in there and turn it back on. Odds are though, that many of those apps don't need it; most usually just enable it just because they can.
On that note, remember that Low Power mode is meant to be used when your battery is dying and you want to save its charge, it's not meant to be used as a normal use thing, since it turns background refresh off, which as I explained earlier, some apps do benefit from.
One last thing, when you say you like the feel of the max, do you mean overall feel, or how the screen feels, how the screen interacts, or what? Just so others can get a better idea of what you mean. By the same token, what didn't you like about the XR?
I've also heard reports of such an issue, where the speaker goes out. Some people say it is completely broken for them, while others say it comes back after a restart, suggesting that it is a software problem that a restart cures. Another thing I've noticed is that on my 7, the top speaker wil get louder than usual at certain random times. I haven't been able to pinpoint when it happens or what causes it, but I know it started happening when I started using the iOS 12 beta, so wonder if it's a bug that's berried deep within the code. That issue and the phone completely losing sound from time to time after a call are annoying as what! But I wonder if that has anything to do with the xs family situation...
@Coast Rider123, congratulations on your decision! :)
I hope are ramblings on your post have AT LEAST been useful or helpful to you, IF NOT ENTERTAINING lol
Mind sharing what tipped you over to the XR? If I remember correctly, you'll be purchasing the phone around Christmas correct? If so, do you think the possibility exists that you might change your mind AGAIN before then?
@DJ Hi. My battery is at 88% and lists as normal in the battery settings. I think it’s more of my usage itself, not the battery. Like I said before, I stream Netflix and use social media apps like Twitter and Facebook a lot. I think this is why my battery drains so fast.
In regards to the Max, I love the edge-to-edge display as well as the overall feel of the device. I think the Max just feels nicer in my opinion.
Hello coast rider. Regarding how much storage to purchase, it really depends upon the person and of course the heft of your wallet. I am of the opinion of purchaseing the larges available storage level, if the finances are there. My reasoning is that this will future proof you against running out of storage too fast. If someone does very limited things with the device, doesn't read many books, doesn't look to see if there is an app to meet the needs of any given situation, like banking, for example, then a small amount of memory will suffice. In my case, I am a heavy reader from BARD, Audible, and Kindle, I enjoy many types of games, I have many productivity, workout, and other media types of apps on my device; therefore, the largest available memory is what I shoot for. I have also downloaded many audio described TV shows and movies from Blind Mice and have them as playlists in Apple Music, which takes up space on the device, as well.
Basically, there is no one size fits all for storage purchase. You have to look at what you do, assess the size of your wallet, and then go from there.
If you are going for the XR, I think $800 for the 128GB model is a no brainer, seeing how it's only 50 bucks more to double the storage. I think stepping up to 256 is more than just 50, so at that point, it's as Roxann said, depends on your usage and storage needs. But even if you don't imagine yourself using 128gb, you'll never know what the future may hold, and those extra 64gb may come in handy! So I would at least get that size... Personally I think the 64gb should have been 700 or something, considering how the 128 is 800. But I believe Apple didn't want to drop the 8+ any lower, so they push the prices around, which as many annalists have pointed out, their pricing schemes are to crowded right now, across the board, phones, computers, iPads etc.
So take advantage of it and go for the 800 128gb model IMO.
@Becca thx for sharing your thoughts about the Max. It is similar to what others have stated about the feel of the xs/max.
Regarding your battery, that is normal health if you've had the phone for a year or 2, so as you say, it just might be your usage pattern; if you stream allot on cellular, that would probably be it. Another thing you can do, is look at your battery info in settings, not battery health, but further down it shows you what is taking up what percentage of your battery. That may help you pinpoint an app that could be taking up the most battery juice, though I suspect netflicks will win that one, since it's streaming and displaying constantly on screen, 2 of the most battery hungry tasks lol.
Hello all!
So I just got my new iPhone X R A few hours ago and I really love it! However I can’t find any information on how to use the haptic touch feature with voiceover. Does anyone have any insight on this? I did call Apple Accessibility and the gentleman that I spoke to had no idea. If anyone could please shed some light that would be great! Thanks!
