When I play the game, I tend to turn VoiceOver off and use the in-app voice. The only thing is that the in-app voice, for me at least, is Fred, which is kind of annoying.

Is there a way to change this voice to another one, like Samantha?

By sockhopsinger on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

Here's how I think of power-ups in the game:

Warp: Sounds like a sort of spaceship engine sound. That's how it sounds to me, anyway.

Shield: Just a low sort of hum with slight variations.

Light-Doubler: Easiest tone to pick out. It's just a couple of music notes.

Weapon: Sort of similar to a shield, but with a warbling sound and much more noticeable than the shield.

Hope this helps some people.

I also turn off VoiceOver when playing FEER, and I'm relieved that I don't get Fred, but I don't like Samantha much more than him, she's thed voice I get when I turn VO off in this game. So any tips on changing the system voice would be welcome: thanks in advance for those.

By sockhopsinger on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

Either Samantha is your default system voice or the voice has been built into the game, in which case, you can't change it.

By That Blind Canuck on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

I find that odd that some of you get Samantha. My default VoiceOver voice is Samantha but when I open the app and turn VoiceOver off, I hear Fred's voice when navigating through the app.

By sockhopsinger on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

I agree. That is very strange. I use Karen as my default voice, but when I turn off Voiceover, here comes old, grumpy, grouchy Samantha. Haha.

I think you can change the default iOS voice separately from VO. Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech. On that screen, tap the Voices button. macOS also has a system voice that is handled separately from VO.

What I'd like to know is how to increase the speed of the voice in the game. Kind of slow for me.

By kool_turk on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

You can do the tutorial any time you want by going to the options found in the main menu, then keep swiping right.

You'll see something like tutorial, followed by a replay button.

Yeah. It's confusing because the Options menu has several submenus. So you have to go in there, tap the Help menu, and then there are things like the FAQ, a way to contact Support, and the screen reader setting. Tutorial should be the first item.

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

Rather interesting. I also play with VoiceOver turned off. I get Tom. I am certainly glad that I don't get that awful Fred voice. In my opinion, they should have never released that one.

My default VoiceOver voice is Kate, but when I turn off VO to play FEER, it's Samantha who starts speaking. I tried to change to Kate in the voices under Speech in the IOS Accessibility settings, even shutting down my iPhone and restarting it, but Samantha is still the voice I get in FEER when VO is not running. Even though I don't like her, I agree that she's better than Fred. I reckon he was added for those who like speech at amazingly fast speeds, for whom a robotic voice like that can work better than a human-sounding voice. But give me human-sounding voices any day, even if that means grumpy Samantha when I'm playing FEER!

By kool_turk on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

Everyone is going to have a different voice preference.

I happen to like Fred on the mobile, If I had a mac I'm not sure, he sounds more nasally on bigger speakers.

I get Samantha for the system voice so I play with VO on, which means Fred.

I'm use to robotic speech, not all voices mind you, there are voices I can't read with, like DecTalk and sometimes eloquence.

I think it depends on the type of speakers the synthesizer is using.

By That Blind Canuck on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

Alright, so I was successful in changing the in-app voice to Samantha, but I also agree that it's a shame we can't control the speech rate. I find her a little too slow for my taste, but at least she's better then Fred.

I actually use Eloquence on my work machines, and prefer it over RealSpeak or any other human sounding voices. But I am one of those that prefer speed, so eloquence is fine. But Fred, I'm sure he's the preference for some, but for me, I can't stand that voice.

Either then that, thanks to @Andromache for the tip.

Awww. Maybe it's not the system voice, then. But I'm pretty sure I get Ava while playing Feer. I tend to like to use the built-in voices whenever games have them.

I personally prefer the human voices. I was very glad when we could finally get away from the definitely fake ones. I do acknowledge that if it's speed that's wanted or required, nothing beats a machine voice. They don't get distorted and tend not to have the strange quirks the more human voices can have when pronouncing some words. Fred is tolerable to me. It's ESpeak in NVDA that I can't stand.

As far as music for the game, I agree that having it optional would be best. But I think it couldn't hurt to have a few different selections. Music helps to set mood and is engaging on that emotional sort of level. I suppose it would cost more to have music made, and in this kind of game, it could well be distracting. But I feel like it's worth thinking about. I do understand if the team decides to not deal with adding the features that go with it, though, like volume control.

Personally, I would like keyboard support. I've had instances where the game switched my lane rather than shoot a zombie, which meant either death or that I missed. I know that death is just a reality for this kind of game. It's even supposed to happen. And sometimes I died because of legitimate errors or stupidity. But the keyboard would eliminate at least one source of needless frustration.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

I play with VO on. If I don't I get Fred wich is kind of cool but I want to use Tessa so that means that I always play using VO because then VO will read the menues.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

I don't think VO slows the game down at all. It is just the same, except the voice can be choses without going to the settings and try to tinker with that.

By roman on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 - 17:41

hello everyone! I could change sistum voice, but not the speed.
if you want to change sistum voice: go to settings, general, then acssesbility, speech, then you can change the sistum voice. thanks you!

First of all, congratulations to the developer and the beta testers of this amazing, awesome, addictive game, both for the wonderful game itself and for its well deserved award nomination, I really hope it wins because it so deserves to.

I've been on the sick list, so lots of time to play, my scores are pitiful compared to a lot of yours, I just hit level 40 before I hung up my running shoes for tonight, but my scores haven't reached a hundred thousand yet. Nearly, not quite. Anyway, I wanted to put my word in on the comments I've been reading and add a few thoughts of my own.

First, voices. I get Samantha if I turn VO off, but I've gone back to playing with it on as I really don't find there's any responsiveness improvement. I do find every now and then that tiny little flick which is all i usually need to control my runner just doesn't work and it's usually the slide that lets me down, in which case the ravens have my eyes for supper. It doesn't matter whether VO is on or off. If it doesn't want to work it just doesn't. I've tried sliding, flicking harder, lots of things, nothing makes a difference, sometimes a gesture just doesn't take for some reason. Of course lots of times I die through my own error and stupidity but just sometimes I don't. I've told my runner which way to move, or to fire the weapon and it didn't get through to his brain in time.

Ok, next up, music. For the sake of my sanity, please, please, if you're going to have it at all, let it be optional. But I would say your instinct to leave it out is the right one. On this game I just can't get over the layers of sound I'm hearing, not just how the zombies are designed but the background ambience, it's so spooky, I have a lot of fun imagining that wood in my mind's eye and how everything looks, what the fairies look like, the sound for me is so immersive, music would really ruin it, quite apart from breaking my concentration, every particle of which I need, especially when the game starts to get fast.

Finally, I have two tentative suggestions. First, I don't know if this is a problem for anyone else, but the most likely time for me to become zombie bean feast is when I have a weapon power up. Now this is weird, but there's a reason. The sound of the power up is so loud in my ears I find it distracts and disorients me, especially if I'm in mid or late game, where it's either medium quick or really hellish quick. I find it hard to hear who's coming, especially the one with that really low grunt and I then haven't time to lift my finger to fire before I'm zombie chow. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me, in which case I'll shut up and get with the program. But for me, a bit of volume reduction on that sound would help a whole heap.

Second, lights. There are a lot of things we could spend lights on: save me, skipping that quest we just can't do, upgrading our power ups, but for some of us earning them is a lot of hard work and that's just as it should be, I'm not complaining believe me. The light doubler power up is nice but not always helpful, because you can get it right at the slow start of a game where you don't get many or even any lights for the whole time it's on. So I was thinking maybe, one day, somewhere down the road, could we have light boxes, light dumps, fairy cages, something, very occasionally and randomly, with a special sound, and a random number of lights inside, could be as few as ten or as many as a hundred.

I know how infuriating it can be to have people throwing impossible sounding ideas at your perfectly good game, so please feel free to bin both of those, just my thoughts for what they're worth, or to use if you like them. And thanks for reading my ramble, and for such an amazing game which has given me hours and hours of pleasure and will give me hours and hours more I know.

By kool_turk on Saturday, November 3, 2018 - 17:41

For me at least, the sliding sound is loud, especially when a zombie is approaching when the game speeds up.

The weapon sound isn't much louder than the shield, which is fine.

I think the only way to solve something like this is to let everyone adjust the sounds themselves.

This way, you could implement a way for people to hear the sounds in the game, rather than relying on a website.

For the most part, the game is fine the way it is, I don't have swiping issues, obviously when it speeds up there's less time to react, but that is something everyone deals with.

I like these ideas. For me, the weapon itself is not a problem. It's the sound when I kill a zombie interfering with hearing what's around. It's like the zombie explosion sound just overpowers everything else. And of course, the weapon firing sound and the jump sounds are a bit soft for me. Also the running sound. So sometimes, I don't know which lane I'm in unless I turn up the game, but then other sounds are super loud. It really just needs everything to be equalized to the same volume somehow.

Small collections of fairies sound reasonable. Would even give a small jolt of anticipation/happiness, and that's always good in a game.

If I'm repeating myself about the sounds, I apologize. Can't remember what I said where. I know I did e-mail the game devs about it.

By sockhopsinger on Saturday, November 3, 2018 - 17:41

For me, one of the hardest things is remembering what lane I'm in. Luckily, there's a slight clue that you can follow during the game to know. Of course, if you're being ambushed by a dozen zombies at once, it probably won't matter what you hear because you'll probably be worm chow. Anyway, when you are running in the left lane, your footsteps are slightly off-center on the right side. Of course, when you are in the middle lane, they sound normal. When you are in the right lane, the footsteps are slightly over to your left side. I hope this helps someone.

I hear my runner in my left ear when in the left lane and in the right when in the right lane. Perhaps you have your headset switched around.

Hi, does anyone know if they’re giving away giveaways or code? I don’t have enough money to buy this game and i beta tested it and I would really like this game

By Sabrina on Saturday, November 3, 2018 - 17:41

You cannot expect that people give away their games. If you cannot afford it, you simply cannot get it. Honestly?

By mentalhome.eu on Saturday, November 3, 2018 - 17:41

We have been busy the last week, so we did not look into here to hear all your questions.
But the good news, we released an update with languages.

Feer now speaks also spanish, french and italian.
So all of you can improve their language skills in changing languages.

We added a quit button for the iPhone X users to be able to close the game.
We added a sound library for the powerup sounds to remember them better.
Now you can change your user name, in case of typo errors or other reasons.

Now to your suggestions:
Responsitivity
As you all play the game extensivly and for hours, you could consider to clean the screen.
We discovered some lack of response during the gamecity fair, where a lot of people played.
Also only use only one finger for playing. Two fingers are always interpreted as Voiceover gestures.

Walking sound on lanes
You have two options for the footstep sound. Either center lane, so the walking always stay in the middle lane, to give you an orientation, where you are. Or the other way, left or right, where you hear the steps left or right. This you can change in the options menu.

There will be no additional music in the game. First because it would make the game unplayable if we overload it the sounds. We did a couple of tests with more sounds and dropped them for the sake of the game. Secondly because we´d like you to feel in an ambience of a forest.

Promo and giveaway
We have a strict policy not to give away any codes. We receive daily mails of poor people, owning an iphone. We are a team of two people, spending months of their workforce into that game, so accept a fair price. Everyone here has spent at least hours of entertainement with this game, a cinema ticket is way more and gives you just 2 hours.

so enjoy the update
all the best hansjoerg

ps. the canadians could rate the game, same with the australians

I really do love what you have done with this game. The update is great! I also like the new factory theme. I just bought it. Completely changes the play experience. No to my question, what is up with those metal Bridges? Sometimes there are five steps long, sometimes or not. I’m going to figure out the pattern. Anyway just letting everyone else know there’s a new theme out there. Sounds wonderful! Hey suggestion for a theme steampunk!

By kool_turk on Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 17:41

I will try to explain the problem I'm incountering on the bridge.

This seems to only happen on the first bridge you come to, you're running along, next thing something falls and crushes you.

Now I know there are those crain things to avoid by sliding under, but this happens so fast, there is no way to avoid it.

I was talking to one of my friends who also has the same thing happen to him every single time.

I didn't believe him at first, I simply thought he wasn't quick enough, but it's happened to me at least 3 times now.

I can do a screen recording if you need some clarification.

Edit: here's a small demonstration, I get killed around the 1 minute mark.

Sorry the recording is in mono, for some reason screen recording doesn't do stereo.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1d91x4j88vyvyx1/possible%20bridge%20bug.MP4?dl=1

By Diego Garibay on Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 17:41

If you said you found a bug do you know how they are supposed to normally work? Is there supposed to be a sound?

By kool_turk on Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 17:41

yeah, you're suppose to hear the crain coming at you, when I got killed in that demo there was no indication of the crain coming at you, it was just the sound of something falling on you, which does happen when you're not quick enough.

But when you're on the bridge, you don't get that sound.

By Lulu Hartgen on Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 17:41

Hi. I have just bought the new theme and first of all want to say thanks for the great work that's gone into the new update. I love the fact that you can go into the inventory and, if you want, swap themes without closing and reopening the game, that's a cool feature and one which, sadly I have needed this morning. There's also much that I love about the factory theme. The sound scape is fantastic, lots to hear, I love the robots, the saw and the crane. The sound when I shoot the robots with the weapon is awesome! The fact that the background ambience is so much louder and it makes things more difficult to hear means I have to really stay on my toes and I like that. All great things. But. Like other people I am having real problems with those bridges. You say in your forum topic that only one lane is safe and that we are given a sound clue to tell us which. I know it works because just once I did get across more by luck than good judgment. But I am truly not hearing a sound clue here. It's very hard when you're trying to do several things at once and don't know even what you're supposed to be listening for. I'm just feeling frustrated right now. I want to get into my stride with this new theme, get really used to the sounds, get a nice long stretch of run going, and I can't because I keep getting killed at the first bridge and have to start over. After about an hour and a half of minute long runs I just had to give up and go back to the forest. So sad really. I'll probably try again, but I wish it hadn't happened. I'm wondering if anyone else has had more success than me?
Again, thanks for the new theme and the update, and congrats on the golden apple, well deserved.

By Clare Page on Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 17:41

After Feer was updated with the factory theme added, I bought the new theme, and I must say I love it, although in some ways it's harder than the forest, especially as our level doesn't change regardless of whether we're in the factory or the forest: thank goodness we can swap themes easily, as I know that there are some quests I don't yet feel capable of completing in the factory, but I feel I have a sporting chance of completing them in the forest. Having said that, I really enjoy playing the factory theme, the sounds are fantastic, and my scores are gradually improving, although they're nowhere near as high as I can get in the forest. Like several others, my first few runs ended in me falling when trying to cross a bridge, then suddenly I was able to successfully cross one by pure luck: there's no guarantee that I'll manage that every time, but at least I don't fall at every bridge any more! Thanks to the Feer developers for this new theme, and for such a great game, and congratulations for the Golden Apple award too, definitely well-deserved in my opinion!

I love this game but when I first started, it said I could go back to the tutorial in the main menu but I can't figure out how.

By Christel john on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

Go to options then select help.

By Hunter on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

Hi at all. How can I save my score if I get a new iPhone?

By maxi on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

why is the new scheme paid?

By Christel john on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

Unfortunately you can’t save your Score.
Because it is save locally on your device.
And for the theme.
We need to support the developers.
If you know what hapend to great games like papasangre, audio defence etc.
We don’t want that to hapen again.
Do we?

By Maranatà on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

But I think that the new factory theme is simpler, now in the forest I can reach a lower score while in the factory it is higher. however, a new idea came to me! What about a new theme where instead of running on foot maybe you have to run with a means of transport such as car or bicycle?

By Hunter on Sunday, February 3, 2019 - 17:41

This is a pity. it would be nice if you could introduce it in the next update, that the score can be saved in iCloud. otherwise the many weeks of playtime have been completely free.

This is a personal opinion and nothing more. I never use music during any game play. I find that it detracts from actual game play. I would rather concentrate on important game sounds that I must hear in order to succeed, and music gets in the way.

To the person who suggested the use of a bike or car, I don't think it would be appropriate for a game of running while blind. You need to see where you are going when riding a bike or driving a car. This, on the other hand, is a game of running. Also, how would you duck under flying creatures if you were driving a car?

Hi all, bought this game today, and its quite fun.
I have a question about missions,, are there a set number or is there an infinite supply?

By Sabrina on Friday, May 3, 2019 - 17:41

Forest theme is already in the app. You only need to purchase the factory. There is an infinite levels. I think it is a cool coincidence that I beat my high score twice tonight.w

By Kerry Fielding on Saturday, August 3, 2019 - 17:41

Hi. I am on mission two, I’ve got 50 zombies and gained over 600 points, but I don’t understand what is meant by jump three times in the centre lane on a single Run. . Can anyone explain? Thanks. Loving this game. I just downloaded it yesterday.

By garnit on Saturday, August 3, 2019 - 17:41

When it says jump three times in the centre lane, it means do the thing you do when you avoid the things coming up from the ground. You don’t have to do it when there’s something coming at you, you just have to stand in the centre lane and swipe up sorry if that wasn’t a good explanation.
