I have been very happy with IOS 12 over all and have found the release to be one of the more stable that I can remember.
That said, there is one thing I am having issues with and that is the contents of notifications not being read on the lock screen anymore. Both my XS and iPad will say the name of the person who sent me an iMessage, or the name of the app that pushed the notification, followed by the word notification, and that is it. In order to navigate and see what the notification says, I have to unlock the device and open the application. I suspect that this is not a bug, and that voiceover is working as intended, but I am wondering if there’s any kind of workaround for this. I’d Love any thoughts, as I liked the convenience of quickly interacting with notifications from the lock screen.

Notification previews
It appears that you have notification previews set to only be shown on the Lock Screen if the device is unlocked. In the case of your XS, Face ID should unlock the phone but leave you on the Lock Screen, and at this point any notifications should be revealed in full. There should be no need to go to the apps themselves.
If you want to have the notifications shown in full on the Lock Screen regardless, go to Settings > Notifications and set ‘Show Previews’ to ‘Always’.
Notification preview adjusted.
That did the trick! Thank you! Sometimes Face ID recognizes my face, and not others, so the notification setting will help a lot.
