Like computers, Apple devices are able to be attacked by viruses. Though it is rare that it might happen, always keep a lookout.
Some links could put your device in a boot loop, even cause some damage to it's software.
It is advised you don't click on links that look suspicious, and contact Apple just to make sure.

can I get a virus from the app store?

Apple vigorously makes every effort to make sure the apps in their store are virus-free, but one should never say never. Is it likely to get a virus from the App Store? No. Is it possible? Anything is possible. How's that for an unhelpful answer? LOL

I think there are anti-virus apps out there, but in my opinion I don't think you need them. Anti-viruses work, because they hook deep into the operating system in areas such as the kernel. And as a matter of fact, that actually makes you more susceptible to attacks such as a man in the middle attack. Best thing you can do is don't click on links or photos from Messenger, or send the chain things. Don't click suspicious links anywhere else. And if you see stuff in your email that looks suspicious but it looks like it came from your bank for instance, call and check! Don't open pop-ups either! And most important, install updates to apps and ios. keeping your system updated keeps you protected against bad guys and security holes and exploits. Basically, your common sense is the best anti-virus there is! Do the same things you'd do on a computer except it's ios.

My understanding why there isn't an Antivirus is due to how the operating system is set up. Just for an app to get access to your photos it needs permission. An app can't have access to all the files like it can on Windows for example. So yes it can get viruses it has gotten them but by having the operating system set up this way it minimizes the damage it can do to it. It is possible and you shouldn't open anything you're unaware of but the chance of getting one is low.

Hi, you don't need an antivirus for your IPhone. Apple sandboxes the operating system, which means that the files can't be altered unless you jail break the device. Because apple sandboxes Ios, you can't get infected.
