Facetime on the watch diverts to the phone instead

hello friends,
Today, while using siri to make a facetime audio call to a friend on my apple watch series 3 running watch os version 4.3, i noticed that the call would divert to my iphone instead.
I thought this was strange so i repeated the facetime audio call a couple of times with the same results.
I also tried resetting my bluetooth and network setting but it too did not help,
I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some possible solutions to fix this problem,

I have noticed this behavior as well, and I think it's done mainly to save the watch's battery. The thinking could be that if the watch can contact your phone via wifi or bluetooth that you're using your watch as a convenience to initiate the call on your phone. The problem comes if for some odd reason the watch decides to handle the call itself when you expect the convenient iPhone call initiation behavior instead. Either the world will hear your call or you may get a low volume call if you happen to use Airpods.
