Accessibility Comments

Version 4.0.0
On May 22nd, this app was updated to version 4.0 and renamed to Honeywell Home. The accessibility issues introduced in an earlier update and outlined under the Version 3.9.1 section were corrected and this app now works quite well with VoiceOver.

Version 3.9.1
The most recent update to this app has made it more difficult to manage your devices. Most buttons in the app are now poorly named, meaning you have to experience a lot more clutter to understand what you are doing. In the case of fan settings for a thermostat as an example, it is now pretty tough to know what setting you are enabling. That said, if you work at it, you can still set programs for a thermostat and adjust the temperature.

With respect to setting the temperature outside of a scheduled program, you must locate the existing temperature near the bottom of the screen. Then press and hold on that number. Drag to the right to decrease the temperature and drag to the left to increase. You might expect to do the opposite but I have tried this multiple times and these directions are accurate.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Thankfully, those who have a Google Home or Amazon Alexa can just ask them to set the temperature, turn on and off, etc, by voice. They can also announce if it's heating or not, and what the current indoor temperature is. So if you're considering getting a smart thermostat, this still might be a decent option. I think these features also work with homekit/Siri, but I haven't verified that.

This app was updated to version 4.0 and renamed to Honeywell Home. More importantly just about all the VoiceOver issues have been corrected. There are now separate buttons to increase and decrease the temperature, fan modes read correctly and setting schedules works well with VoiceOver. The app will manage other Honeywell devices as well.
