Accessibility Comments

This app seems to be accessible, though it does have some issues, such as starting and stopping recordings, but it is nevertheless useable if you are patient.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

This app is great for those who like walkie-talkie style apps, and who like to send short voice messages, approximately 20 seconds in length. If anyone would like to try this app, my name is Hilary Reed. I couldn't think up a more original user name at the time. :-)

Recently, I have had a request for the email address for the developers of BreakR. Here it is. support@onbreakr.com.
I hope that this was helpful. :-)

Actually, once the recording has been initiated. You will see that the sound is goes to the ear piece. From there you will be able to find the Stop button. It is located about 3/4 the way down on the right side of your display.

So the app description says you can send messages without ever touching the buttons in the app. That said, I've tried it, and when I talk into the phone, no voice messages are being sent. Is there a trick to this, or does this feature not work while using voice over? I would submit feedback, but it appears that form might not be the most accessible thing, unless the app is so new that the searchable database has nothing.

I have also been struggling with this feature. I emailed the developers this morning to let them know about this, and they said that they will look into this. :-)

Excellent. Glad to know it's not just me having a problem with this. The getting started guide is not accessible. So I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong since I couldn't read it or if this was an actual issue. Sounds like it's the latter.

I do believe it is with in the Settings section to enable the Voice Activation. In saying that I have not tried this yet.

You can turn on and off voice detection in each channel you are using. I tried turning it off and back on again and still no dice. But, good thought.

As I recall, the app description says that the walkie-talkie feature is hands-free. I do not believe it says hands-free for any other function of the app.

By mendi on Thursday, May 24, 2018 - 22:14

And the walkie-talkie part is the one I was trying to use. I was inside of a channel and was trying to send a voice message. I spoke to the ap, and nothing happened. I had to press the button to record my message.

I managed to get the tutorial to proceed and one of the things it showed me was that if your phone is locked the app does go hands free. It'll play a message and then immediately give you a beep indicating you can talk to send. Try locking your screen and see if it'll work for you then.

By Bruce Harrell on Thursday, May 24, 2018 - 22:14

Walkie Talkie is for talking live, not for leaving messages. The description says you simply talk; the Walkie Talkie function is voice activated. Messaging is an entirely different function. It is not voice activated. Hope that helps clear it up.

So it appears you can't really test this feature out until or unless you receive a message. Okay, good to know. I'll find some willing participants in this test and see what happens. Now how you got the tutorial to work is beyond me, but I'm glad someone did. Thanks.

By mendi on Thursday, May 24, 2018 - 22:14

Okay, perhaps I'm missing something quite obvious, but it doesn't appear so. How do I listen to messages on this app? Or, is it one of those... if you miss it that's just too bad because you can't play through your history? I'm confused though, as the app says I have one notification. Another thing I notice is if I open the app from the notification I've received for a chat and then try to open chat requests it doesn't work. I have to close it out entirely, go back in, and accept the requests that way. If anyone else has a clue about any of this, please let me know.

It does not seem like there is a way to stop it from automatically playing Messages no matter where you are. The app does not even have to be open. A lot of the buttons are not accessible with voiceover. I don’t believe this app is totally accessible and it needs a lot of work.
