Blindfold Runner

Category

Description of App

Blindfold Runner is a fully accessible endless runner game inspired by the games like Temple Run. The objective is to keep running, jumping over or sliding under obstacles, turning left and right when needed, and collect prizes. You can play this game forever - there's no official finish - just try to get the highest score you can before losing.

There are four types of obstacles: Things you need to jump over, such as rivers. You'll hear an ascending tone. Swipe up to jump. Things you need to slide under, such as a truck. You'll hear a descending tone. Swipe down to slide. Path goes to the right. You'll hear a sound move from your left ear to your right ear indicating something is blocking the path straight ahead, and turning right is the only direction to go. Swipe right to turn right. Path goes to the left. You'll hear a different sound move from your right ear to your left ear. Swipe left to turn left.

There are also coins that you can get on the left and right sides of the road, and in the Expedition Game, supplies that you can purchase to use on your expedition.

hi is this like the other blindfold game where you have to purchase more coins to play some more?
the game sounds really nice though :D

By KidFriendlySoftware on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

You purchase unlimited play and optionally the expedition game.

By mority on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hi. Hmm, sounds like a game from Kidfriendly software worth playing at last. After playing a bit, I noticed some things that I would personally like beeing improved.
First, the game speed is to slow for my taste, I can hear objects and opstacles far to early and have all time of the day to move out of the way, possibly a faster game mode would be a good option, something that brings challenge to the game.
And again, the pricing model is ridiculous for this game, unlimited play and an extra game mode for almost 8 Dollars or Euros in my case? The half of it would be ok, or even in the arria of 3 Dollars, temple run had all this for free ... just saying.

I love everything about this game. I was hooked from the time I started playing.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I want my next gift card now!
I love this game. This is why I want my gift card.

By TJT 2001 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

mority, Temple Run doesn't have to charge money because ads are presented in the game. So many people played it (I don't think too many do anymore) and saw the ads, so the developers made massive amounts of money from people seeing the ads, and the game grew in popularity to the extent that the developers were making a profit. Blindfold Games cannot adopt this structure due to ads being an accessibility problem, and not enough people playing the game and thus seeing the ads for the games to make any money.

The basic game is about $4. The Expedition upgrade is a significantly different game.

By Ornella on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I really love this game so much. Everything from the sounds to the game play is really good. Looking forward for more games like this in the future. A another small sim suggestion I would like is a sandwich café where we could cook sell food and make plenty money and expand to a restaurant and do different things. Can't wait to get my next gift card.

By Greg Wocher on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hello all,
One issue I am having is that I can't tell when I jump or when I slide. There seems to be no indication of either of these. I also have a hard time distinguishing sounds when there are a bunch of things going on at once. Like having to move left or right while there is a treasure. I am also having an issue with how if you need to move right the sound starts in your left ear. For me it would e easier if I have to move right or left for there just to be a sound indicator on the side I need to turn to. Asides from these issues, I do like the game. Its one type of mobile game we have not really seen for us yet.

By KidFriendlySoftware on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by Greg Wocher

When you slide and jump, there's a confirming sound, but the key element is that if you did it, you're all set.
I recommend you spend some time in the screen that identifies all the sounds.
As to the left/right thing, think of it like the obstacle is on the left - i.e. heard in your left ear - so you must swipe to the right.
I know doing it the way you want is easier, but then it's less realistic.

By TJT 2001 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Having a sound in the ear that corresponds to the direction you must turn is unrealistic. Try to imagine a real-life scenario where you are walking and hear some people who have stopped in front of you on your left; you would need to turn right so that you do not hit them.

By mority on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hi.
Well, for adds, you can easily place them at the bottom of the screen and you will have almost 0 to no issues with it, Huboodle also does this and it works fine.
or, for extra coins, implement a possibility to let the player watch a short video to gain some coins, takes just about 15 to 30 seconds for most videos.
And, if the expedition game is so significantly different, shouldn't it be a good idea to implement a demo version of this one in the free product so the players can get an idea on what they are dealing with here?
The problem I am still having with the game that it is far to slow for my taste, I played on the regular game with the super fast game mode enabled, but still, when I went up to level 7 or 8, i am not sure, it still was slow as hel and I stopped playing because I got quite bored of it.
The concept of the game goes into the right direction, I have to give the developer credit for that at leased, but there are still things I would like to see improved.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I think the sounds are very realistic. I know what everything is.

By TJT 2001 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

The fact still remains that not enough people will see the ads, and the income received from seeing an ad or watching a video is extremely limited. The developer has said before that if a user watches three 30-second videos, he only makes $0.01 US, and even with his almost ninety games in the App Store, he would make more money working at a McDonalds restaurant.

I believe, but it is highly possible that I am wrong, that the developers of Huboodle receive money from their other games where there are a substantial number of users as they are mainstream games, and that they have well-paying day jobs.

I'll think about a demo for expedition game. As an alternative, I may do a youtube video.
As to speed, I can make even faster options, but if you played longer, you would notice it's getting very very fast at higher levels.
Did you lower the points required per level?

I'm adding a feature to let you turn of the signal just before you jump or slide, so you need to memorize and listen to the obstacle sounds.

By kool_turk on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Sorry to go off topic.

Rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd just post here.

You said a while back you were going to write a blog why you couldn't do a subscription model, did you ever end up writing that blog entry?

I, and a few others I'm sure would be interested as to why you chose not to go that rout?

I wouldn't mind a subscription model if there was one.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I cannot use subscriptions and neither can anyone else using gift cards. That would NOT be fair.

By kool_turk on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I use gift cards for my subscriptions all the time and haven't had a problem yet.

I use it for netflix, my VPN, apple music, and for a time, Sero.

All of which I'm paying using gift cards.

I have quite a lot of credit so I don't have to worry about gift cards for a while yet.

So it's definitely doable.

Yet another game I am not interested in playing at all. This app developer should’ve been made to consolidate every app just like any other app developer in the App Store. I really wish Apple would not have given into this community he’s whining and crying about it. Quite frankly, I don’t like any of these games, and I really think that we should have bored games instead of the simplistic titles.

By KidFriendlySoftware on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by brandon armstrong

Thanks for your comment, brandon. I realize that not all games appeal to all people, which is why there is such an assortment. Many of the testers really enjoyed this game. What other kinds of board games would you like us to create?

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I got the bundle today.
I love it.
I found a bug though. I was playing easy and for some reason it told me I needed a band aid or whatever it is spelled and then I kept on running and I stopped because I didn’t have a band aid.
I am fully sure that I was on easy. This happened somewhere between level five to seven.
I love the fact that I am passing things beside the road. I also enjoy the different surfaces where I run.
Now to try expidition game for real.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

When gamme is over, I quite often slide to jump too late but the thing is that I start a new game and don’t get to hear the score.
Thanks again for this awesome game.

By Brian Giles on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I called this one a year and a half ago. It's pretty good. I haven't purchased it yet though. Most of my feedback is relevant to the series as a whole, not just this game. I think you should be given more coins than just 10 to start since there's no longer a way to earn more. I blew through mine pretty fast since sometimes I was trying to jump in the game and I would die, so instead it registered my swipe up as wanting to play again when I didn't necessarily want to. My next question may have been explained before, but why do the games not speak everything when you set them to use VoiceOver? IMO, the interface for customizing speech in the games needs an overhaul. Since we already have VoiceOver configured to sound the way we like, I would think it would just make sense to use that for spoken output, especially in a game like Runner. When I set that in the options though, several messages are skipped, so I have to go back to the self-voicing options, which take a long time to set up for each individual game. Setting up the voices left me frustrated before I could even start playing the game.

I will look into that bug.

By Brian Giles on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

One other thing. I think the tilt and swing motion controls for moving side to side should be optional. Sometimes I couldn't get my phone to register that I was moving it far enough over. This game is a good one to play while sitting down somewhere, and you might not have a lot of space. Perhaps you could do a 3 finger swipe to move side to side to grab the coins. Good game though! I might end up purchasing the bundle, which yes is a bit on the pricy side, but it's still cheaper than Super Mario Run, which I'm still playing the heck out of. Nice to have a fully accessible endless runner.

I am moving towards a system where you can set up voiceover in one game, and it will be adopted by all of them. It's still in testing. I don't use voiceover for several reasons, such as it doesn't respond to a programmatic "stop speaking" in all cases, which slows things down, and it gives you only one voice- some games need 2 voices to make it more understandable.

By Bumblebee on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I love this game but... this app doesn’t play the sound for turning left or right that is found in the learning sounds category. Also... the app doesn’t have any other supernatural beings. Ghosts, vampires, or Zombies would be fun to try running from. The “very fast” setting is so slow. Why? Anyways... I love this app. Thanks for making it! ;) Bye!

By Greg Wocher on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hello,
Well I am finally making some headway in the game. One of my issues is that while there is a sound to indicate that you need to jump or slide, there is no sound to let you know that you actually did jump or slide. I now realize I don't need one because if your successful the obstacle goes away and if you fail you lose the game. LOL. Another thing that was confusing me was the difference between turning left or right with a swipe and using tilt to run left or right. At first I thought that using the tilt was what I needed to do when I needed to turn left or right. I finally figured out thats not the case. Now onto my possible bug. After I exit out of a game using the three finger swipe up, it will say ! main menu. Once it does this I can't swipe to access the main menu. Now after a several seconds I can finally swipe around the screen again.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Rofl now I am walking really slowly. I cannot stop laughing. Is there a way to start running fast again or should I restart?

By KidFriendlySoftware on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by Sabrina

I've never heard that before. Restart, but if it happens again, let me know what you did beforehand.

I think that's an iOS issue - not setting the app back to voiceover mode.
See if you can make it happen predictably, then I may be able to solve it.

By DrummerGuy on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I admit that I have been kind of doubtful about this game but, after reading that most of you like the game, I think I should give it a try. Thanks for making something different from cards, puzzles, etc.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

It is not a bug. It is because I don’t have running shoes. Is it supposed to go faster when using new ones? Because it doesn’t work.

By Clare Page on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I installed Blindfold Runner last week, and have tried a few easy practice games, but I admit I'm finding this game somewhat challenging. I rarely get past more than two obstacles, and I often lose the game when moving to the side, as if I haven't tilted my phone correctly. I find that tilting can often work better than swinging for me, plus i need less space to play in if I'm not swinging my arms to either side, but I admit I can't get far with this game yet. Never mind, with more practice I will hopefully improve! For this reason, I bought the bundle, partly to spur me on to play the game more and be able to use the unlimited coins and perhaps play the expedition game eventually, but mostly because I know my in-app purchases help Blindfold Games. Many thanks for yet another fun game, even though I'm pretty hopeless at it so far!

By Clare Page on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Many thanks for that tip, I'll try that next time I play the game! I'm OK with the sliding and jumping, it's the turning that usually lets me down so far, so here's hoping swiping will work better for me!

By Greta on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hi! Yeah, I like the game too, but I think is too slow. I played until level 10 and I died just because I got distracted. I think that's the problem of all the arcade blindfold games, they would be very cool if they were more challenging. The card games don't have this problem, because their nature is different. For example, I love 2048 because it's a challenging puzzle.

By brandon armstrong on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Since you asked me what game I would rather you make, my honest answer is absolutely none. I don’t like any of them, but I don’t like the fact that you can’t play online and less you get a separate app. I think Apple really should’ve put you out of business for the fact that you didn’t want to commit to what they said in the App Store.

By Bumblebee on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by brandon armstrong

This guy shouldn’t be put out of business. I am horified about how rude you are being! Think of how unhappy blind people would be! No fun apps! No games! Nothing! I hope that you would consider that when you comment next time. :-(

By KidFriendlySoftware on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by brandon armstrong

Thanks for your input. I hope you can find games that you enjoy, with the features you demand, at a price you think is fair. If I hear of any, I'll let you know.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Kid Friendly Software has made all the games I like. Hopper, Breakout, Pyraamid, Runner, Hopper, cat and mouse and color crush.

By Clare Page on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Thanks to a tip I read yesterday and a bit of experimentation, I have finally got the hang of Blindfold Runner, and I love it. Swiping in the right direction to avoid some obstacles, and jumping or sliding to get over or under other obstacles, works well for me now, and I found that I get the prizes better by swinging than by tilting, even though it took me a while to get used to the prizes we have to jump and slide for. Sure, the game starts slowly, but it gets faster, and it needs concentration, making sure we do the right gesture at exactly the right time, that's why the game can end so suddenly if we get distracted. I'm glad that the majority of the people posting to this thread agree on how good this game is, even if some would like it to be faster. Complaining that all Blindfold Games apps are rubbish isn't constructive, and it's also not true for many of us. There's a place for all kinds of games out there, and I'm very thankful for all the games I have from the Blindfold Games series, as well as all the other good games from other developers which have turned out to be accessible.

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hi Claire.
You should try super fast with expedition game. That is so col. I have only come to level two on it and I tend to die quite often. The extra lives really halp me.

By Clare Page on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

In reply to by Sabrina

I don't think I'm quite ready for the expedition game yet, I've only just got the hang of the easy game, and I expect I'll have a few goes at the regular game before even trying the expedition game. One thing I know for sure, I can't even play the easy game successfully without headphones: I tried it using my stereo bluetooth speaker yesterday and I didn't get very far. Once I get really good at the easy game at the default speed, I can try playing it faster, then I can progress to the other types of game, then who knows where i'll end up? That remains to be seen in the future, I'm sure!

By Sabrina on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 - 20:21

I just went into the learn sounds thingy.
It sounds to me like the cues for jumping, sliding and turning are completely different from the ones in the game.
Can this be played without headphones? Because to one direction it is decending and the other way it is asending.

By Chris Thornhill on Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 20:21

Hey guys! My name is Chris and I’m just curious how do you start the blind fold runner? Cause I can’t get it to start it says to swipe up to begin but how do you swipe up?

By DMNagel on Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 20:21

I enjoy this game, but I have a question. It seems like the running shoes and the band-aid only need to be purchased once. After purchasing them once, I don't need to purchase them again. Is this a bug?
