App Store description:

Does it feel familiar? It’s because it is! Using the standard QWERTY layout and 3 simple flick gestures, FlickType is the fastest available typing method for blind and low-vision users, ever. You don’t need to learn a new way to type. Just tap where it feels natural and FlickType’s powerful algorithms will get it right, almost every time!

No more spacebar or other control keys to hunt for. Simply flick right for space. To delete, flick left. Not the right word? Flick down for alternative suggestions.

An extremely fluid typing experience, and with enough additional functions to satisfy the book writer in you, FlickType will turn the chore of typing into something you may actually enjoy!

Happy typing! Smile

I have been testing this app and it’s just great. It is now my go-to keyboard for interfacing with my phone or ipad. My thanks and appreciation to the developers.

Hello
I tested the app and encounter the following:
1. After typing two letters the control centre suddenly appears for no reason. The two finger scrub option removes it, but unfortunately it reappears soon after again.
2. I also encounter that after typing two letters the next letter I search for does not have any voice output by VoiceOver.i

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this. Since we haven't heard of these issues before we'll need more details to troubleshoot. Would you please email us directly so we can figure out what's going on? Beta@flicktype.com

Thanks!
Ashley

I have been using the app for a few days now, and it truly makes a big difference! There are still a huge potential for the app to grow, but as it is now, it is already a part of my daily use!

I will mail my suggestions, but in the meantime, a big thanks to you for developing this app! And yes, this post was written using flip!

Dear FlickType Team,
I love your App, it is wonderful.
I was intrigued by the Post above which reported the erroneous activation of the Control Panel. Though I hadn't experienced it during general use, I was able to reproduce the problem.
With Flicktype open and in typing mode, placing one finger on the bottom left edge of the screen and, while maintaining constant contact, prescribing an arc over the home button to the bottom right corner of the screen will activate the Control panel every time.
As FlickType isn't designed for constant contact, I wouldn't actually describe it as a bug but as a neat feature.

I had a small question regarding the keyboard, is there a gesture you can do if you want to do a carriage return? I have to admit, I just love typing on this keyboard as it feels rewarding being able to type just as fast and accurate as my sighted colleague. Now I am guessing that the developpers is probably looking at ways of including this as a iOS third party keyboard, which would make this keyboard even more awesome.

I actually have another question, is there a way to add custom predictions. Let me explain, I have a colleague of mine that has a unique name, and every time I try to type it in, the app has a hard time predicting it, which is fine, but when I swipe with one finger up or down, their name doesn't appear. Again, this is understandable, but perhaps if there was a way that we could input names that the keyboard may have issues recognizing, perhaps having a custom name in a list of some sort, so when we swipe up or down to view the alternatives, then that custom name we inserted in the list could appear as a suggestion. I hope this sounds clear, I haven't had my cup of coffee, so my rain isn't quite awake yet. Thanks!

To in cert a new line, or carrage return as you called it, simply swipe down with two fingers.

Now, for your second question, to add words, in this case someones name, I know what you mean, my name wouldn't be in the dictionary, being turkish and all.

To ad someones name to the dictionary, you have to type it out manually, just like you would with the main iOS keyboard.

Keep in mind when you're typing manually, only the first letter in the sentence is capitalised, so if you want a capital E for example, you would enter the E, then change the case by swiping up or down.

The first letter should automatically be capitalised, I double check just to make sure.

Awesome, thanks Kool_Turk, your help is very much appreciated.

I kind of feel stupid though, I went back into the app and noticed the Help section. Once I opened it and viewed the instructions, I got all of my answers from their website. See what happens when you don't get a morning boost like coffee, your brain just doesn't work. Maybe I should consider drinking my coffee much earlier, that way my brain would wake up much sooner and work right away. Thanks again!

So, I got the app. But I have a question:

Can I set it as my default keyboard? It's seems like I can type only when I'm in the app.

By Macky on Friday, April 27, 2018 - 14:10

Hi Socheat. Currently it is only possible to type in the app, but a keyboard extension is being worked on at the moment and in future you will be able to set FlickType as the default keyboard. Hope that helps.

Macky, thanks for your reply

I just got my first iPhone, and this app sounds like something I might need at some point. I listened to your video about it and really enjoyed it. Thanks and best of luck in the future. For now, I think I'm getting pretty good at the iPhone gestures which I have learned thus far.

Hi. Simply put, I enjoy using emoji a lot. Is there a plan to work with that subsection of the IOS style of typing? I haven't gotten the app, Imight just do that. Chances are, I might answer my own question, but I thought i'd put it up anyway. Hope people love this app.

By Macky on Sunday, May 27, 2018 - 14:10

Hi Siobhan. There currently isn't a way to add emojis using the app in its current form, but I believe there will indeed be a way to include these when the FlickType keyboard extension is released. This will allow you to type in whichever app you are using without having to change to the app. Its being worked on at the moment so watch this space. Hope that helps

Keep in mind that, once FlickType can be implemented as another system-wide keyboard in iOS, it won't be absolutely necessary for them to implement emoji. When you want to type text, simply switch to FlickType. When you want to enter emoji's, simply switch to Apple's already existing emoji keyboard. I can't wait for this implementation!

By Siobhan on Sunday, May 27, 2018 - 14:10

When you have whole convos with nothing but emoji, your already run into the trouble of selecting category, flicking through, finding what you want. With the Flicktype, if they somehow put a gesture in to select emoji, I'd rather have that. I'd not typing much faster only to go back into cave dos days, flick, type, flick back type like a speed demon. Do you see your error in thinking here? why create more work for the user when to my understanding, Flicktype aims to eventually replace the Apple keyboard. To each their wacky idea i guess. ;)

By FlickType on Sunday, May 27, 2018 - 14:10

Hi All,

As Macky mentioned we're currently working out the logistics and process by which we will introduce emoji input. For now, the system-wide keyboard in alpha form requires users to switch to the regular Apple emoji keyboard, but we are working on baking emoji input directly into FlickType.

Cheers!

Other than I like to have never figured out how to dismiss the keyboard and accidentally got stuck in my control center instead, it's good so far.
