Accessibility Comments

I can get to the part of the tutorial where you have to build an animal farm but when it asks you to click on the building to get more information about it, this is where the accessibility needs working on. They're willing to do this though if they get enough positive feedback from all of us and suggestions.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Few buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

This game is lots of fun and it would be more so when they make it more accessible. Marleen Zeeman of http://sparklingsociety.net says she'll push to make the game accessible for us if we give her enough positive feedback and suggestions for improvements

the game sounds nice and I will write the developer about trying to make the game more accessible to us.

I always loved Sim City and the like when I could still see and have been looking in vain for an accessible game like this. Still haven't found one.

It's nice to see this one at least has the beginnings of potential for accessibility with actual buttons that are actionable and the ability to navigate the screen by swiping. (Most other games in this genre are completely inaccessible.)

I'm not sure if I have enough knowledge on the inner workings of IOS code to give them pointers on how to make it accessible. I may send them a generic request for accessibility, though. From the looks of it it just requires better button labeling, labels for some of the text values on the screen and a better order on which the elements cycle when you swipe through them (also an ability to perhaps isolate focus on the Tutorial popups when they're pen or when you're switching between tabs?) Not sure how easy this would be to implement - I haven't coded in IOS since before they came out with the Swift coding language.

Has anyone sent them Apple's documentation on creating accessible apps?

Also there would have to be a way to 'auto-place' buildings if there isn't already, now that I think on it. Solara had something like this - it would just stick the new building in the closest empty spot with space.

I don't suppose anyone has gotten far enough to build anything yet?

i only got to the farm but i couldn't do nothing after that

Hi, I am in the tutorial. How do you connect the roads to the small house?

By Unregistered User (not verified) on Thursday, February 25, 2016 - 06:20

I believe you have to press the zoom button and then actually double tap the area where it says build roads by tapping the grid. I think this'll build the roads. Try that and let me know. And in answer to the other user who spoke of the guide for developers to make their apps accessible on here? by all means. If you can find it on here, please for heaven's sake send it to marleen using the email address provided. If that isn't motivation enough I don't know what is other than sending her plenty of email support letting her know that we all want this game to be made accessible. Have a wonderful day and I look forward to hearing what else you have to say as does Marleen I'm sure.

Hi, I got a sighted person to click on the building and from there the app is completely inaccessible maybe the developer will be interested in making the rest of the app accessible

By Rashad on Friday, March 25, 2016 - 06:20

If it is only accessible for the first few levels, shouldn't the accessibility rating be changed.

By JeffB on Monday, April 25, 2016 - 06:20

I emailed them although I'm not sure if I sent the email to the right address. Here's hoping!

By TJT 2001 on Monday, April 25, 2016 - 06:20

I also emailed them. They took over a week to respond and told me that accessibility was not a high priority.

could someone post a link for the developer of this particular game? I visited the site and I don't think I was getting the link for this game to write to the developers. They did update this game but they did not fix the accisibility issues. They have other games on the site but I wasn't finding the link for this one. Thanks

It's unplayable, except for the first bit that you can complete in 5 minutes.

Has anyone gone back to this game and tried it? I played it with out the tutorial and I was able to accomplish some more stuff except for the roads and upgrades.

By SilverMoon on Thursday, January 25, 2018 - 06:20

So it's been several years since the last post. Does anyone have any accessibility update on this?

By DrummerGuy on Thursday, January 25, 2018 - 06:20

Last time I tried this game you still could not build roads and things like that. So, at least, as far as I understand, nothing has changed.

By SilverMoon on Thursday, January 25, 2018 - 06:20

yeah, I didn't think so, just because I did try it and it didn't go too well. But I thought maybe it was me, since I wasn't familiar with the game, or really anything.

By Megan on Friday, May 25, 2018 - 06:20

I was hoping they would have improved this. While I can't say if they have since I just downloaded it, I cannot even build a road in the tutorial, and I'm not really sure how I built the small house. I tried several times and it just ended up working somehow, but I don't think I could repeat it. What a bummer. I haven't found any accessible Sim City or Farmville sort of game, and I've always wished I could play one.

I had contacted this developer over two years ago about accessibility. She said she had someone in Europe who was supposedly willing to help her but they were Knochel. I don't know enough about coding for iOS either to give her any advice as to what to do.
I just downloaded the game and it was a waste of my time. Went through that to Torio and not able to build the road either. Somehow managed to put the house God knows where in the grid. This game needs work.
I wish someone who had accessibility knowledge would be able to get in touch with this developer and help this process happen. I unfortunately don't know how to do that at this time. G
It's definitely a nice game and has great potential. I liked the way Solaris told you how bigger space you needed for XYZ shop and you put it in the place where you wanted it. It was very cool how they made that possible. She needs to do that with that game. She could also take a page out of lords and nights for the map as well and somehow label stuff so that you know where you're putting it. Well that's all I've got to add here.

Hi, I’m going to download this game now and retest the accessibility of it as it’s been some years since I tried it and now we have screen recognition I’ll let you guys know if anything changes with it.

By Cornettoking on Sunday, April 25, 2021 - 06:20

I have a question: Didn't you have to place buildings and other stuff in Solara too? How did that game do it? I think that could be a way for this game to handle it, too.

By Daniella on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 - 06:20

I was able to build a house somehow using Screen recognition but I can't connect the roads, can anyone else figure out how to connect roads and build them using voice over?

By al-Salil on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 - 06:20

I've not tried this game and after reading the comments I'm not going to either.
The fact is that this app has not been updated since Nov 30, 2016 and that tells me that the dev have lost interest in it somehow.

By jacob on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - 06:20

I can’t connect the roads either and when you go to let your storage space it just empty empty empty but I can’t do the upgrading buildings with voiceover it’s very hard some of it it’s not accessible

By Karina Velazquez on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - 06:20

hi, I have been willing for a sim game since simtower but it seems this game is not the one, even though, has anybody tried with the screen recognition if helps in any way?

By DMNagel on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - 06:20

This thing is obviously out of date, inaccessible and overrated. Try CTMayor instead. It is no less sophisticated, but at least it's a game that is still being worked on. Furthermore, it's 100% free and the developer is a friendly fellow, actively engaging in discussions with our community, responding to our suggestions and willing to make improvements wherever possible.
