Hello,
My brother and I have been having issues when using voiceover when connected to HDMI cable. Once my iPhone 7 is connected, voiceover stops working. It won't go through the speakers when doing a presentation. We have only got it to work once. IF anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

Not sure if this would work at all, but could you connect the iPhone to a bluetooth speaker or bluetooth headphones or something bluetooth and still have it connected to the HDMI cable? Never actually seen an iPhone connected to HDMI cables before, so not sure if this'll work.

You don't need an HDMI cable on your Iphone. Just use a compatible bluetooth speaker and you should be good to go. I have a sole republic bluetooth and a Bose Sound link color series II speaker and they work just fine. Of course, my IPhone is an IPhone 6 unit.

That’s what I was thinking too. I also don’t know if the projector we are using has speakers on it. Like I said, only worked once. Do you know if I would be able to get the playback destination to work? I think I will try to Bluetooth speaker. The purpose of our presentation was to show how white over visually works on the iPhone. My brother and I are app developers well, he is. We were demonstrating and how VoiceOver works with the iPhone in compatible with our app that we developed. I hope that makes sense. Sorry, I am using dictation on here. But yes, I will try that thanks for your suggestion I have an iPhone 7

If you use something else that uses audio, can you hear it from your TV or projector? HDMI is supposed to transmit both audio and video signals. If the HDMI output you're using doesn't have speakers, you're SOL until you connect to something else that does. If it's VoiceOver specifically, try toggling VoiceOver off and back on.

Hello, one year ago, I went to an Apple premium reseller to try this specific situation as a close friend wanted to buy an iPad pro - there was iOS 10 on that machine.
I had a HDMI projector with no audio, and a HDMI-lightning cable; same problem happened and I did not manage to get away with it, with the sighted seller, I was trying to switch audio destination, from VoiceOver's rotor, but nothing happened: only audio switching back to iPad speakers, was VoiceOver's click sounds when navigating controls sequentially. No voice coming from there.
We also tried to connect a bluetooth speaker, but nothing happened at all.
Now, this same friend is celebrating her 50th birthday and we all friends have decided to gift her with an iPad pro, so, the problem is coming again. And I'll profit of this thread to learn how people may figure it out, if someone does.
Thanks.

I did not have airpods with me that time, but I would be curious to try with them.
Or, at least, with a double-lightning cable, there are on amazon some cables like that: one male lightning and 2 female lightning - they're used to both charge and listen, you should try to connect both HDMI and lightning headset on both ports.
