Hi folks! To make a long story short, my friend gave me an iPhone 8, something I wasn't expecting, because I don't know what I'll do without the beloved headphone jack on my SE. well, I couldn't refuse her, so I said thanks and gladly excepted her gift, which was re-given by another friend of hers. Anyways, now that I have a new I device, how to set it up? And how do I get the contents of my SE into the new phone? Also, besides the lost headphone jack, what other differences will I expect from this new device? Do you think there will be any improvements from my 64 GB SE? Any input from you guys would be welcome! Thanks!

Things I already know
I already know that this is a 256 GB iPhone eight, also, my SE is running the latest version of iOS 11.2, while the eight is coming with 11.0. So, before setting it up, do I have to let the device go into DFU mode to get a brand new and clean 11.2?

I guess I'll just update to iOS 11.2 at the start and then continue from there. I hope I can transfer from the SE to the 8. But I know I'll miss my beloved headphone jack.
Keep hthe SE Model
You can always turn the SE model into an iPod and utilize the headphone jack when you really need it, i.e., for playing games that require headphones. Do a Google search and you should find a how to guide for converting an iPhone into an iPod. I am considering doing the same with my 6S, whenever I update, as it's the last model with the headphone jack available. Enjoy the new device. I'm certain that you will enjoy it despite the loss of the jack.

Well, after a first-evening play and initial familiarizing with the new phone, I do say that the new Home button is very cool. I like the harder press, as it's more like pressing an actual button, and it sounds like that as well. Siri voices are more responsive on the new phone compared with the SE, and the stereo speakers are good for home use.
But, I can't just plug into the phone as I used to do. And if I wanted to make a podcast and record audio off the phone, I can't do that directly. I've tried the adaptor, but I fear it's not that long-lasting.
Since my iPhone SE is still healthy, it's just a matter of 64 GB VS 256 GB thing. Maybe I can give the bigger and better phone to my parents. But I guess I'll play with it for a few more days, at least to get the battery all the way from 1% to 100%. Yes, I'm charging and using it on speakers.
Oh, and, correction, I later found out that it was a 7 plus. The things about the 8 was my guess, as I felt the back of the 7 plus, and thought it's similar to the 8.
Whatever, it's a newer phone, and I like the responsiveness of it.
I do hope Apple will continue its SE line. Let's see what they will give us next March.
added question
as I got a clean install of iOS 11.2, I was curious to see if automatic signing in would be usable on 7plus. But I brought my SE near by with no use. Am I doing anything wrongly? I just let the phones go side by side on my desk.

Be sure that Bluetooth is turned on on both phones. I'll bet that's not why the updating process has halted. Also, to make that adapter last longer, if you intend on using it for one purpose, as I do, just plug the adapter onto the end of a cable. I leave the adapter plugged into a cable that runs into a mixer that then goes into my computer. Otherwise, I use the ear buds that came with my iPhone 8 plus for gaming and other stuff that calls for a headset. HTH.

You know what? I'll try this game again today. Meanwhile, thanks for the tip about the adaptor. As tempting as it sounds, I guess I would still prefer something with headphone jack on board. That said, I feel I'm really liking 3D Touch, something that the SE don't have. I just hope that I can still do similar things without the 3D touch with the SE. Thanks again for everything!
