Transcriptions of VoiceMail

My wife is sighted and has an iPhone 6S. When she receives a Voice Mail, she recently started seeing text transcriptions of the Voice Mail message for each Voice Mail she receives.

I have an iPhone 6 and use VoiceOver. I am not seeing transcriptions of my Voice Mail messages.

Is there something I need to do to enable Voice Mail transcriptions? I thought this was a new iOS feature that should be available in iOS 11 (which we are both using on our phones).

Thanks for any advice.

I don't see how ios or the iphone can have anything to do with this.
on the other hand I was supposed to be rich and handsome, so I probably miss a few things.
My isp spectrum does the voicemail transcriptions for me. Maybe your isp can do yours.

Pete,
If you start to play the message and then pause it the transcription will show up. I'm not sure why you can't just view a transcription without actually playing the message, but I'll usually hit play wait a second then pause it, and then it will generate the transcription of the message. Sometimes it works well while other times its not the greatest though.

I don't really feel so thrilled about getting transcripts because, in my case, most of the time it doesn't really work The way it should. I realize that it might come handy but, for now, it is not something that you really could consider very reliable. I know that, with time, it will get better, though. Still, I am grateful that it is available.

I don't like it because (a) it is most often not reliable, and (b) you don't have the option of whether or not to use it, unless something is new in iOS11 that I haven't found yet. Basically what Apple is saying is that it's going to listen in on your voice mails whether you like it or not.

I think I finally figured out why I am not seeing voice mail transcriptions on my iPhone.

I am a Verizon customer and after going to My Verizon account it seems like voice mail tanscriptions is an optional feature from Verizon - i.e., it doesn't seem to be an Apple thing. Verizon charges something like $2.99 per month for the service. It certainly isn't worth that to me.

I have Verizon and I automatically get the voice mail transcriptions and I'm not aware of any extra charge for that.

Interesting that you aren't charged.

My wife and I share a Verizon plan and she is getting these voice mail transcriptions but I am not. As you say, there doesn't seem to be any extra charge on our monthly bill for this service.

However on the Verizon web site under My Account, it indicates that the transcription service for voice mails is $2.99.

Perhaps I should call Verizon and figure out if there is a charge or not if I want to get transcriptions. No idea why my wife and I aren't chcharaged for charged for her transcriptions.

Thanks.

Verizon sends transcriptions of voice mail as a message, in the message app. This is a paid service. I had a thirtyday trial. It worked well, but I don't have a lot of use for it.
