King of Dragon Pass on iPad is one of the best. I'd be open to hearing about others. though.

It's available on iPhone, though I find it a little more usable on the iPad.

If you are a chess player, try Shredder Chess and Chess-Wise Pro from the app store. I liked Shredder Chess because there are more settings, making it more flexible, and it will track your progress and adjust to your strength and give you an approximate ELO rating. Neither of these chess apps is very expensive. In fact, the free version of Shredder is very good, but with a few less features.

Also, check out some of the games from Kid Friendly Software. There are strategy games such as 3 D tic-tac-toe, sea battle, connect 4, just to name a few. These are games in the Blindfold series of games, and there are dozens of other games available. The easiest way to find all of these games from Kid Friendly Software is to go into the app store and do a search for blindfold. Although you have to buy the games through the use of inapp purchases after a 10 game trial period, they are well worth the money.
