That doesn't really surprise me. They've never been one for accessibility, it just so happens that their amazon mobile app happens to be a fluke and actually works.
I think the author of the original post was trying to be sarcastic, and I'm sure it comes as a surprise to no one who has been following Apple accessibility for any length of time. Amazon really doesn't seem to give a damn, which is unfortunate. I don't know what, if anything, can be done to convince them to do so, but I'm very happy I have access to both Barnes & Noble and iBooks now.
I believe they're one of the very few companies that don't care about accessibility. Yes, that is quite sad, but you're right, I doubt anything can be done to get them to change their minds. all we can do is hope, I suppose.
