You'll want to open (cmd-o) or import (cmd-shift-i) the file. Once it loads, space will play or stop, while p will play or pause. Note that open and import do the same thing for one file, but if you select multiple files, you see the difference. Opening multiple files will open each in its own window, letting each be edited separately. Importing multiple files will open them all in one window, letting you edit them, or some of them, together as tracks in the same project.
Thanks, but my file is in desktop. I selected and used command shift I, opened google drive. If I open with audacity app, I can’t play pressing space bar, really frustrating!
It sounds like you're trying to open the file from the desktop? That will only work if Audacity is set as the default app to open the file in. What you need to do is open Audacity first, then open or import the file from within the app.

should just be able to go ¸into the tracks men and then one of the options should be media file. The
n you just select whichever mp4
you want to import and it should create it as a new track. If you're talking about exporting the track to mp3 format, you'll need the lame mp3 encoder for audacity. A quick google search will find that easily. Download it, install it the way you would any program and you'll be able to export by going to file, then export. I haven't used Audacity in quite a while, having switched over to Reaper, but that should be how or at least close to how you do it.
Hi everyone, since we're on the Audacity topic, may I ask can I cut for example, a part of the MP3 file that I don't like, can I do that using VoiceOver? I use to cutting some stuffs with GoldWave when I was a Windows user. Thanks for any helps.
You should be able to do this with Voiceover. I've never used Audacity on the Mac, but it's easy enough to do with Windows. The thing to remember is you have two cursors. there's the play cursor and the edit cursor. If you're playing a file and you hear a spot you want to cut, you need to hit P to pause the audio , then you need to move the edit curser to the play curser. Not sure how that's done on Mac, but if I recall it was [ on Windows. I've since switched to Reaper also, but that's how it was a few years ago when I used it. You should also be able to simply move the play and edit cursors together when the track is stopped by pressing or holding the left and right arrow. Keep in mind the amount your track is zoomed in or out will decide how much time moving back and forth in the track will take. If you're zoomed in really close for instance moving the cursor will only move a few seconds back and forth. If it's zoomed out really far, moving the cursor a little will move a whole lot more. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works. That's how Reaper does it and I'm pretty sure that's how Audacity did also. Hope that helps.
