LookTel Recognizer - a great object recognition app incompatible since iOS 11

Hello,

LookTel Recognizer is one of those apps that need an update so they continue to work in iOS 11 and later. That's really a shame since I consider Recognizer to be one of the if not the best object recognition apps, letting me to easily and in real time recognize packaged goods like cans, tea packages and yogurts, personal items like DVDs or clothes, or credit and ID cards.

I would like to raise this topic so that we can gather a sufficient number of requests to convince the developers to update the app . You can contact the developers at info@looktel.com their Google groups forum, or their Twitter account.

Best regards

I'm wondering if they still support the app. Didn't NANT or something like that take over the Money Reader formerly developed by Looktel? They might be the ones to contact.

Yes, it is now the Nant money reader and it provides 64-Bit support as of version 2.5 back in August 2016. So, make sure you have the latest version of the App downloaded. You can search the App store for Nant money reader to be sure you have the right one.

I am not speaking about the NantMobile Money Reader app but about LookTel Recognizer which is not a money reader but rather a personal objects recognition app from the same developer which can easily recognize in real time packaged goods, personal items like DVDs, credit or ID cards, etc, and unfortunately, there is no other ap like LookTel Recognizer which I've truelly found very useful compared to other object recognition apps. As far as I know, LookTel is just a brand name and NantMobile is the company behind that.

However, thanks for pointing out the NantMobile company since it seems to be still alive whereas LookTel's Twitter account has the last activity from 2013. You can contact NantMobile via this form and hopefully you will find somebody listening there.

Good news, I have just received the following answer from NantMobile after contacting them via this form: Yes, we are in the process of updating it. Our team is working on it now.

Yes, my comment earlier was to suggest that Nant may now do the Recognizer app as well as the Money Reader app. Glad to hear you got a response.

As you already mentioned Looktell is a money reader and works well with IOS 11. For recognition try SeeingAi. It's a nice app which may be of help.

Hello,

Seeing AI is an interesting piece of an app as well but doesn't have the capabilities of LookTel Recognizer which lets you to teach the app the appearance of your own objects and later quickly recognize them just by pointing your camera towards them.

I am using most of the recognition apps in the market, but Looktel Is one of the best, it is not so complicated like apps nowadays, but it offers a very important ffeature for products that do not have Bar code or something, is there a hope to see the app again?

So, I sent the following to the LookTel e-mail address still on their website, hoping I’d get somewhere, but, alas, mail returned.

So, I’m posting the messsage here in hopes that someone might see it and be able to bring this app back for us.

Greetings.

Even though we are in a modern age of AI, I really wish this app still existed. Even now, it would seem so much quicker than having the newer AI apps give generic descriptions of what we’re looking for. Instead of, for example, having AI say all of the images and text that is on one of my T-shirts, if I still had an app like this today, it might just say something like β€œI love the 90s T-shirt”. Do you see how much quicker that could be for us? Sure, today, we could identify an object first with AI to confirm what it is and then record it into this app all on our own for later use to be able to gather the same information much more quickly in the future! It would be using newer AI to supplement and enhance older AI technology

If this app does ever get brought back, I would kindly request that the basic function of being able to record one’s own labels along with pictures remain the same for the reasons I mentioned above. AI is great, but this has always been faster, and that matters.

Bottom line: I guess what I’m saying is that I would love to see this app return and be updated. Please consider doing so. I know I’m not the only blind person in the community who has expressed an interest in seeing this app return.

Sincerely,

β€”
