A Curious Speaker Issue on my iPhone

I'm running into a rather strange problem. I just upgraded from my 6S Plus to the 8, and I was surprised today to realize that only one of the two speakers seems to be emiting sound. If I cover the right speaker, I notice a marked muffling of sound. However, if I cover the left one, there is no change at all.

If I understand what your saying, you're mistaking the second speaker for the microphone opening. There's a speaker up at the ear piece and one at the bottom of the phone. The microphone is on the other side of the lightning plug from the bottom speaker and the same size opening as the speaker.
This was introduced in the iPhone 7. You hold the phone sideways to get the stereo effect.

Yeah--after I posted this I was playing around with it, held my ear to close to the earpiece and got a bit of a shock. Thanks for clarifying what the other opening was--I suspesct I'd have known this earlier had I bothered upgrading when the 7 was released.
