Hi all,
I currently work in a position that requires me to use LogMeIn and do a lot of remote machine administration. I'm wondering how much interest there would be in me writing up a guide to help other people in similar positions? Rest assured, this is possible to do thanks to the LogMeIn iOS app.
My search hasn't turned up any guides or other information about doing this kind of thing nonvisually. If I were to make such a guide, would it be useful to anyone?

Yes. Please write it ... lots of folks will definitely benefite from such document.
Hi Jake,
Hi Jake,
this definitely sounds very interesting!
Quick question though, as I'm not familiar with the LogMeIn service... Is this a service which is only aimed at enterprise networks, or is this something which I could also use for personal purposes? If I could use this to remotely control my Mac while I'm away, this would definitely be pretty awesome and I would most certainly appreciate a guide on how to do that! :-)
All the best,
Robin
It's both
It is aimed at both, though with different products. For your use case you'd want LogMeIn Pro, at $99/year. Not cheap, but you need at least that level of plan to have the remote sound redirection you will need. LogMeIn Central is aimed at enterprises and for that, you need what is known as LogMeIn Central Plus (the equivalent of Pro in that product line). I'd go over this in detail when I write this guide, because having at least this level of service is important. You absolutely need the remote sound feature provided at this level or higher.
Jake,
Jake,
thank you so much for this information, this is totally awesome! I could totally use this software (LogMeIn Pro in my case). It would be really wonderful if you wrote this guide, would absolutely love to find out more about how this can be achieved in an accessible way!
Thanks a lot :-)
Remote administration guide log me in
Hello Jake,
Yes, please write this guide. I could see myself and others having a use for it from a VoiceOver perspective especially since you mentioned that you were not able to find anything on this subject. I know you mentioned that the LogMeIn pro service could be used on the Mac in conjunction with the iOs app. Would the same apply to the PC using Windows10 and NVDA or JAWS?
Yes please
Yes please, a guide for logmein and or Hamachi would be excellent. Thanks in advance
Sort of
I'll go over this in extreme detail in my guide, but the long and short of it is this: Only the iOS app is accessible at this point. Neither VoiceOver on the Mac nor Windows screen readers of any variety can make sense of the remote control window once you get past the initial list of machines and connect. All control must, therefore, be done through the iOS device at this time. However, it will work to remote control Windows--in fact, that's part of my job. I recommend use of NVDA for this because of its responsive nature and light resource usage. You can use JAWS if you must but, then again, I don't recommend that one these days, LogMeIn or no. On the Mac, naturally, you'd use VoiceOver.
Ok
I'll write up one for LogMeIn. The last time I touched Hamachi was about eleven years ago, long before LogMeIn got control of it. It was pretty self-explanatory back then and fully accessible as I recall. Of course, that's likely to have changed a great deal today.
Also
I can include a section on Microsoft Remote Desktop on iOS if that would be desired. There are similarities to using LogMeIn but also some notable differences.
Also
Hi again Jake,
I think that including a section on Microsoft Remote desktop on iOS highlighting the similarities and differences between this product and LogMeIn would be useful.
How is the guide coming along?
Hello. I'd just like to ask whether the guide is to find somewhere, or if you're still working on it? I'm currently getting into a position where I'll be using LogMeIn for remote administration. Thanks in advance!
Hello Jake. I'm new to remote
Hello Jake. I'm new to remote administration, so pardon me if my question is a bit too general, but is the idea that it's possible to remote a windows virtual machine with NVDA through the IOS device? If so, how is that done; i.e. if I want to run a program from a PC via my device, do I then need a wireless keyboard or something of that nature? How does the IOS device interpret windows? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Question on Microsoft Remote
I tried running the Microsoft Remote app on my iPhone but it didn't seem to be accessible for controlling my PC from the iPhone. Is this app really VoiceOver compatible and accessible to the blind or did I miss something? Any hints appreciated.
Thanks.
