You're joking, right?
$10 for basic telnet features? Every other mud client adds triggers and aliases...
MUDAbility
Please note that MUDAbility is still new. More features will be added as development progresses. If you would like to get in touch with iAccessibility directly, feel free to tweet @iAccessibility1, follow iAccessibility on Facebook, and you can also send emails to feedback@iaccessibility.net. I am not a developer but rather a tester, so please direct any development questions, feature requests, Etc, through those channels as response times should be faster.
This app
This app is cool. I can't wait to see what they do with it as time passes.
A horrible decision
The developer made a horrible decision with this client. This should not be nowhere near v1.1, especially if it is still in development. As it stands, this can be easily replicated in about 20 minutes.
While I appreciate the effort, the developer should've waited until more features were implemented, aliases, triggers, gagging, scripting support, sounds, to name a few. This should be a beta, or at least 0.9.x.
As it stands, I do not recommend this, at all. Not yet.
Some food for thought re previous comments
All you folks who are trashing this app...
STOP IT!
Not everyone can use Terminal and there is not a viable option for Mac right now.
No, it doesn't have all the features you want. No, it's not VIP Mud, a program that has been around for years. But hey, it's an app that is just getting started. And if we want to send it flying away, just like every other Mac Mud client possibility, let's just keep going with these comments. As it stands, it's the only thing around. And, after all, developers have to eat and if you want to give constructive feedback and make this app into the great thing that it could be, support it. Otherwise, don't trash it, because the dev has promised weekly updates and it will only get better from here.
I'd Support The App
I'd definitely support this app if I had a Mac! This app sounds good to me! I'd enjoy seeing this app grow and change as it improves!
when a developer publishes something
He or she needs to cope with the fact that the program might create mixed opinions voiced in different matters. Regarding that someone said that we should stop trashing the app, well, I am sorry to say, but welcome to the real world where you have to listen to critics because of pricing, features, support and what not. I agree with the fact that this app is overpriced for what it can do at the moment, when it will improve, I guess I wouldd pay for it, but 10 dollars for a mud client is a bit to. much in my opinion.
An Explanation
Wow, this post has created a lot of conversation it seems. I am the creator of MUDAbility, and I started the project to see if I could do it. I was told that the Mac really didn't have an accessible MUD client used at the moment, so I thought this could really be a product. I have made several apps for iOS and I wanted to make one for the Mac App Store, so I decided to see what the interest was for this. I am really happy that it has become a topic for discussion, and I thank the folks who have purchased the client.
While many of you do not agree with my decisions on the project I will say that I have reasons for the pricing and versioning that I have set in place, which is usually left up to the discretion of the developer or to the organization that project belongs to, and not the critics. MUDAbility is still in development yes, but it is functional. You can log in and play your games on the client so it is a product. Based on research done on the Windows side, MUDAbility is cheaper than several Windows clients, and it offers specific speech related features that work with the Mac. I also want everyone to know that the app is a paid app because we are a for profit organization that looks to make money off apps and services developed to get equipment to make better apps, and so we can provide a great podcast with the iA Cast podcast. This is also is designed as a crowd funding project. Our goal is to raise $1000, and we will make a Windows client, which will have the same features. Anyone who has purchased the Mac version will also get the Windows version of the client. If we raise $1500 we will make an iOS version
I do honestly believe that people are entitled to their own opinions, but there is a difference between stating your opinion and being an Internet troll. I think it is funny that people have said the things they have without purchasing and trying the client. One of the reasons that I have put the client for sale so soon in the development cycle is so that you, its users, can shape the project's creation. In one week, MUDAbility has changed in design thanks to its users, and we are just getting started in building an amazing client, so please do not judge this book on speculation, and lets build the best MUD client we can for the Mac.
Can only get better
Hello,
I am one of the ones that has already purchased this app. $10 is not to expensive for a client. VIP mud is still $30 on Windows.. Not being able to play muds is one thing that keeps me switching back and forth between Mac and Windows. This mud client can only get better as features are added.
Agree with Michael
I agree with Michael. As a user of tis app, I can also say that it will only get better from here. Michael has been very prompt at fixing issues I've reported to him, mainly over twitter, as well as putting in new features that users might like to see, if possitle. You don't get that kind of dedication/customer service everywhere, and I, for one, appreciate what Michael's doing here. I say keep up the good work!
Fare enough
While the people/users overhere have been a bit harsh, or what you will, but if you are comparing the mud clients on windows with This client and say its cheaper,up to a certain point, you'd be right, VIPMud Asks $30 (which I think is farely ridiculous) having said that, though, Vipmud asks $30 but it wasn't a barebones client when it came out, offers a good range scripting functionality (I hope that's coming), it has a demo version which you can run for as long as you want just restarts after every 2 hours, that too the client, not the pc and so on and so forth.
If we bring mushclient into this, all this gets thrown out of the windo,of course.
Is a mud client on the mac/ IOS missing? yes, is it something that I as a user would like to see? yes again, does the developer have the discretion to set his own price, work on the client as he would and so on? of course he/she does. along with that though, a proper strategy along with pricing which is the most important asspect in marketing any product with what the product offers should be considered too.
So yes, perhaps in the future depending on how the development goes, and what features this client may end up with, it just maybe, and that's a long maybe worth the $10, but right now, its definitely not.
Just my opinion,of course.
Good luck and wishes to the developer, and I hope your client does go far,and surpasses its windos counterparts.
iOS mud client
For iOS mud clients, the only one I know of is MudRammer, but for what it does, it's very good. Do I wish there was more of a choice for iOS? You bet.
What am i missing?...
i was so excited to see this app being developed even if its early days. Heres the thing the. It just must be me as i haven
t found anyone else saying this. I can connect to muds but not play them. the commands don't go through once connected and it times out. I thought it was just certain muds but i have tried to connect to all the muds I have played in the past and nota. what am i missing?.. tried to contact the devs but unless there response ended up in my spam filter I did not see one. has this thing happened to anyone else?? I'd really like to get behind this app. thanks.
yes
yes it has happened to me and i have no idea . but your not alone
my comments
Loving version 1.6 Ever I have some issues.
1. I can read let's say prompt number 4, but I cannot just let's say prompt number 4 to the clipboard. This causes the whole let's say thousand or 2000 line buffer to copy This can cause issues and cause text edit or where ever I put it to freeze including voiceover if I'm trying to read the buffer.
2. When I have voiceover on the voice speech still happens. I actually want to try and find a way to mute this so it does not use the system voice.
3. I want to try and find a way to auto clear the buffer and or have a separate window for copying the text such as a map set of directions
Over all it is a wonderful program but it is making muds hard to play and right now my system loves to freeze when the program is launched. I am using telnet right now which makes it interesting. At least i can copy a set of map directions.
What ever happened with this
What ever happened with this app anyway? I bought it soon After it was released, but it doesn't seem to be still getting updates. Has it turned into abandonware? Would really be a shame if so.
Uh, no. Here's why
I get wanting funds to help develope your app, but it might be worth asking for them once you've got something that FREE mud clients don't have, whether that's convenience or something else.
Also, there's no way to log in and get your purchase information after you've baught the app. Hope you saved your email?
Tintin's got some issues, and maybe someone will come up with a mud client at some point, but it's a hard pass for me on continuing to use this .... client.
yes yes this app no longer…
yes yes this app no longer avaliable?
