Hello to the dev. I just wanted to say thanks for the Word War! game. I have completed a couple of puzzles and have found no accessibility problems while using Voiceover. I haven't completed any battles with others so I cannot speak to any accessibility issues there. The Help section is thorough and also has no problems. I appreciated the info included for the Accessibility Tips section, as well.

Keep up the good work. Give us more games.

To the developers, thank you for this wonderful game. I recommend This game to everyone. You guys will enjoy it. Look for it as soon as it is available in the App Store. I haven't found any bugs. I have played single games and also I have battled a few other players and have not found anything that could make it difficult for us to play this game.

By Terra Syslo on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

I am having trouble when I am trying to battle someone live. VoiceOver cuts in to tell me when players are online. It makes it hard to select letters or see what letters are on the board still. Are there any suggestions for playing live?

This game is accessible and amazing

By Toonhead on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

I just got Word War and played around with it for a bit and was able to solve a few puzzles. What I like about it is you don't have to choose every letter in the answer. Just select the first and last letter and the game does the rest. Very nice indeed. I even paid the $2.99 necessary to remove the adds, but sometimes i'll still see a sponsored add. I'm not sure about that? Either way this is a nice first game. You've won me over!

Hi,

We have set up a Word War chat group for voiceover users called "Voice Over" to make it easier to post questions and issues. Please reply with your player name if you would like to be added to this group.

Thanks for playing!

I have been beta testing this game. It is an awesome game and I'm always looking for people to battle. My Word War name is rowdyamerican. I would also like to be added to the VoiceOver chat group as well. I'm in the beta group, but I also want to be in the VoiceOver group. Thanks.

Hi Toonhead. Can you tell me on which screen you experienced an ad after you had already removed the ads? I would like to get this fixed for the next release. Thanks!

By Kelly Sapergia on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

What I'm about to say is just my first impression. The game is nice as far as accessibility goes, but it seems to me that it's also unwinnable. I say that because every time I play, I end up getting into a state where I have two or three words left, but none of the letters work to solve them! I even tried using the letter bombs a few times, but that hasn't helped.
Does anyone have any hints as to what to do in a situation like this?

By DrummerGuy on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

A little hint for those who are having some trouble playing the game. First of all, the game is not unwinnable. It would be best if you were to use your rotor and adjust to vertical navigation. Now, you should be able to look for the appropriate letters left to right, up-and-down. Down and up or right to left.
Hope that helps.

Hi! I downloaded Word Search War yesterday, and I think it's an excellent game. I've only done a couple of puzzles so far, and only played the single-player game, but I'm very pleased with how accessible this game is, plus I like the fact that there is a VoiceOver Help button to give us VO users tips on how to play. Vertical Navigation was already in my rotor, and that definitely improves game play. I have also paid for no ads, even though the ads didn't get in the way of the game during the brief time I still had them. I can definitely recommend this game to any word search fans out there.

By David Standen on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

I'm not usually into word searches but this game is truly awesome. I've only played 2 single player puzzles so far but I'm really liking it. As others have stated, I found the Voiceover help useful, plus the fact the words to find are listed a the bottom of the game board. Keep up the great work.

By Karok on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

hi all when i set my vertical navigation and i am flicking up and down can i also go left and right to find my letters? some words i am finding easy but not others. also how many puzzles are their it says for example music 11 puzzles, does that mean 11 catogories?

By David Standen on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

Yes, you can swipe left and right when vertical navigation is selected. I'm not sure how many puzzles there are altogether but there are indeed 11 categories within music. This is the topic I have been playing thus far.

By robin24 on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

Hey Nick,

congrats! Looks like you've done some wonderful work here and I'm absolutely looking forward to playing this game.

I'm having a big issue though, being that the German translation is pretty bad honestly, making it pretty much impossible for me to figure out what's going on.
I'm guessing that you've used some automated translation service here, which sadly doesn't seem to work very well.
I'd be happy to help you localize all the strings into German, but sadly based on my first impression, it seems that currently the game isn't playable in German.

Is there any way for me to set the game language to English in the meantime?

Thank you very much and keep up the great work!

Robin

As far as adds go, I notice it especially after completing a puzzle, on the congratulations screen. It's not a huge deal of course but figured I'd mention it. It's entirely possible my purchase didn't go through in which case I could try it again. I was told my purchase went through, so i'm not sure what's up. Either way it's a pretty cool game so far!

By Jeff Crouch on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

Hello, This game is awesome. I've been experiencing a strange bug though. I connected to an online player and VO keeps announcing that I have 1 friend online. It keeps saying this over and over again when I am in a game and even after I finished. This is not isolated to online games. Has any One else Experienced this?

By Kelly Sapergia on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

In my previous comment, I forgot to mention that I had my rotor set to Vertical view, and it works very well. I can solve just about all the words, but, as I said, I still get to the point where none of my letters will belong to the last three words. As I write this, I'm trying to solve the word "canary", but every C on the game board has been used up. I say this because when I double-tap on a letter that's part of a certain word, I hear a sound meaning it's correct. In that case, I move up and down, left or right, right or left, down and up, etc., to get the last letter. Now, however, this strategy doesn't work. I've even tried going diagonally, but that hasn't helped either.
I'll keep trying though as I'm determined to win at least one puzzle. If anyone wants to try having an online game with me, my player name is kjsapergia. I'd also be interested in the Voiceover chat group.

In reply to by Kelly Sapergia

Hi Kelly,

The same letter can be used for multiple words. I am not sure about the sound you hear meaning it is correct. Can you try again using the same letter for multiple words and see if it works for you? Hopefully that gets you over the hump. If not, please let us know.

Thanks,
Lee

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

I also experience Voiceover repeatedly announcing that I have a friend online. I like the indicator but it interrupts gameplay way too often. Perhaps this could be adjusted for one minute intervals or perhaps if that friend leaves their online status or if another friend comes online? Just some thoughts.

By nbappdev on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

A new version is coming as soon as Apple approves it. It will include fixes for the 'friends' and 'chat' voiceover updates that announce too often. There will also be some crash fixes, and a new feature so you can add your friends to any chat group you belong to. There will also be a feedback button added to the settings page so you can email support directly with any suggestions or concerns.

Thank you all for the great comments, Keep them coming.. we are just at the beginning, and hope to keep adding to the game for a long long time!

Hi Lee,

I tried your suggestion about using the same letters, but that hasn't helped yet. It's just that after solving a few words, the letters I want aren't lined up in any direction to form another one. If you'd like, I can try to record an audio file so you can hear what I'm experiencing.

By Toonhead on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

Hi Kelly and all. I struggled with this too for a while, but i'm going to try as best as I can to explain exactly how I solve all the words in a puzzle. I'm going to play a 1-person game and as I go, i'll describe exactly what i'm doing so hopefully, it'll help get you, and anyone else struggling with this along. I've just installed the first update so if you haven't already, you'll want to do that so we're all in the same place. Ok, so I've gone to the app, and on the first screen I've double-tapped the single player game button. Next, i'm asked to choose a topic. I like music from the 80s, so i'm gonna choose that. ok, here's the game board. I'm not going to explain every single word in the game because that could probably be boring but i'll explain the first couple. The idea is you navigate the game both horizontally, and verticly. Make sure you have your VoiceOver rhotor set to verticle navigation. That may be why you're unable to find all the letters and solve the puzzle. To do that, go into settings/general/accessibility/VoiceOver On, button/rhotor button. In that screen, make sure that the option called verticle navigation is selected. If it is, go ahead and close that and go back to Word war. Ok, if you chose a one-person game and chose a topic, you should have the game board in front of you. Make sure you go into your rhotor and make sure verticle navigation is selected, so you can move up and down, as well as left and right in the game. The words you'll need to spell out are at the bottom on the right, so go ahead and familiarize yourself with that now. Yours will probably be different than mine. So in this instance, my words are Idol, Abba, Nicks, Collins, Bowie, Seger, Adams, Carlisle, and Asia. Lots of words there, so i'll only explain how I found a couple. In this case I'm not exactly sure how the letters are laid out, so i'll find one of the words here...ok, I just located the word Adams, and it goes from left to right. So, I double-tapped the A, and then swiped over to the right to find the s and double-tapped that. The game makes a little clickity sound and says,Timer stopped, found Adams. So lets find another word here... Ok, I've found Bowie, but to find it, I had to swipe up and down, instead of left and right. so I double-tapped the B in Bowie, and then to find the last letter, which is e, I had to swipe up to find it. So I double-tapped it and the game indicated that I found it. There are more words there of course, but I hope that gives you a good idea. Having verticle navigation will really help you out there.

Congratulations, my friend. You have explained it very well, indeed. I hope that our friends will now find it easier to play and get to have fun with this excellent game.
Cheers.

Hi. Great game. Please add me to your voiceover chat group, username ladymunch. I'd love to help out and receive in turn. Best, Ezzie

By Piotr Machacz on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

Really great game. My username is pitermach and anyone is welcome to play a game with me.

@kelly and anyone needing help, my strategy is pretty simple. The board is really large, 8*8=64 letters so it may seem like there are no combinations and a lot of gibberish. Keep in mind you're not timed until you start marking a word, so take as much time as you need to find words. I always flick left to right first to find any horizontal words. When I find all of those, for vertical words I always try to find the first letter by flicking left to right. When I do that's when vertical navigation comes in. I try to move both down and up from that first letter. If the word does continue, great. If not, I look for another instance of the first letter on the board by going further right as there are often multiple instances of them.

Finally here's a quick question/bug report for the developers. The help page for the "sub-topics" screen for single player talks about stars being displayed next to a subtopic to indicate how close you are to getting a medal for that subtopic. I don't think this is indicated in any way by VoiceOver. For the record I've been playing through the "trains" category, I completed 6 or 7 puzzles and haven't received any medals so far though I did get my first promotion.

By Karok on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 10:12

hi as i navigate this game voiceover keeps saying gameboard, and then as i continue to vertically navigate it keeps saying gameboard is this normal? i run iphone 5 but do have a 7 to unbox.

By Sabrina on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

would it be possible to add swedish to the languages?

By AppA11y on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

Hi Piotr,

There is a bug where the medal progress (stars) aren't working on the subtopics screen with voiceover. We will try to get this fixed in our next release. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for playing!

Hi everyone. A new version of Word War was released to the app store today. It includes a lot of bug fixes. We intend to put a release out weekly with more fixes until it is stable. The live games have proven to be challenging with all of the network synchronization that is needed.. but it is getting better every day!

Thanks again for giving it a try. Since it is still almost impossible to find on the app store, here is the link.

Just a quick question. The timer is supposed to start when I double tap the first letter and stop when i find the last letter right? Because lately these last few updates the game hasn't been doing exactly that. Did something change?

By Roxann Pollard on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

I have also noticed that, with the last two updates, it seems that the timer starts whether or not I have set the first letter of the game. Confused. Not certain what this behavior means.

By Fredrik Andersson on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

Will the game be available in Swedish?

By TamagotchiTune on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

Yes. I'm glad it's not just me. And because it randomly starts it's messing my games up. The 9 word battles take me 7 minutes because of this and somehow the other person just seconds. I have vertical navagation set. Any other tips to help me out? Or is that timer starting random a bug?

By David Standen on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

The timer issue is a bug. I've even had the game announce "timer started" when I've been checking stats.

By TamagotchiTune on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

I hope it gets fixed soon. I love this game.

By nbappdev on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

The timer bug does not affect gameplay, but I will get it fixed. The bug causes the timer to start and voiceover to read an alert after a game was completed. Depending on how much time was left on your pause timer is the reason for the long delay sometimes.

How the timer works now is detailed in the voiceover help page which is accessed from the game page.

By Muhammad Saidinas on Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 10:12

Hi
In my opinion that's not a bug, you see, every games like this are depend with how fast you could find all of the hidden words, not depend with how fast you hit the last letter after you get the first letter.
Correct me if I am wrong though.
This game is fun!
